Overview
########
Despite its NFE status, Vullaby finds its way onto various defensive teams in NU by virtue of its good defensive stats and typing. It boasts an excellent support movepool which includes Defog, Whirlwind, and Knock Off. However, Vullaby's lack of offensive presence means that it should only be used on defensive teams that benefit from its ability to check a variety of Grass-, Psychic-, and Dark-types.

move 1: Defog
move 2: Roost
move 3: Foul Play
move 4: Toxic / Whirlwind / Knock Off
ability: Overcoat
item: Eviolite
evs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
nature: Calm

Moves
========
Vullaby's main role on a team is to clear entry hazards with Defog. Roost keeps Vullaby healthy and Foul Play gives it a consistent way to deal damage. The move in the last slot should be tailored to your team's needs. Toxic is useful for wearing down Pokemon that don't take too much damage from Foul Play, and it can be used to stall out various threats. Whirlwind is also an option if your team is weak to boosting sweepers, such as Lilligant and Uxie. However, since Vullaby's goal is to clear hazards, Whirlwind's utility will be limited to forcing these Pokemon out. Knock Off is also a viable option to remove the opponent's item, but rarely will it outdamage Foul Play.

Set Details
========
A specially defensive spread is used as Vullaby's typing is more suited to walling Psychic- and Grass-types, which are usually specially offensive. Eviolite is an obvious choice for the item. If using Knock Off, be sure to switch the nature from Calm to Careful.

Usage Tips
========
Although Vullaby takes negligible damage from Knock Off, it is generally not a good idea to let it get hit by the move, as without Eviolite it will become considerably frailer. Also, because it lacks Leftovers recovery unlike other Defoggers such as Pelipper and Mantine, it is more vulnerable to residual damage such as Stealth Rock, so try not to play Vullaby too aggressively.

Team Options
========
Vullaby is best used in a defensive core or on stall teams. Defensive Slurpuff and Granbull can provide Heal Bell support and also counter Fighting-types, which demolish Vullaby. Dragalge can tank Electric-type attacks and also take on Fighting-types, while providing Toxic Spikes support. Flareon can take special attacks such as Ice Beam and Thunderbolt very well, and Flareon also provides Heal Bell support while appreciating Stealth Rock being removed.

Other Options
########
Taunt is an option to completely shut down slower Pokemon such as Audino, Ferroseed, and Musharna, but Vullaby is too slow to make good use of the move. U-turn can be used to gain momentum, but defensive teams do not value momentum as much. Brave Bird hits certain threats such as Lilligant and Vileplume harder than Foul Play, but is extremely weak if it does not hit something super effectively. Finally, a physically defensive spread is an option to handle physical attackers such as Zangoose and Rhydon better.

Checks & Counters
########
**Ice- and Electric-type moves**: Most of these are specially based and can be stalled with Roost because Vullaby is faster, but Foul Play won't be doing too much to special attackers so Vullaby will usually come out on the losing end.

**Rock-types**: Vullaby takes huge damage from Rock-type moves, but Rock-types will have to watch out for Foul Play as it can deal a nice chunk of damage to most of them.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types resist Foul Play and can hit Vullaby hard. Slower ones such as Gurdurr and Hariyama will prevent Vullaby from Roosting.

**Slurpuff and Granbull**: These Fairy-types resist Foul Play and can destroy Vullaby with Play Rough. The former will be able to set up on Vullaby quite easily.

**Knock Off**: Knocking Off Vullaby's Eviolite will greatly reduce its longevity.

**Status**: Poison and burn will make Vullaby's job a lot harder as it does not utilize Leftovers.

mention physically defensive in OO imo. phdef lets vullaby switch on rock types and it can beat them one on one. Also helps with other physical threats obv

252+ Atk Rhydon Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Vullaby: 206-246 (59.8 - 71.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Vullaby: 199-235 (57.8 - 68.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Sawk Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Vullaby: 181-214 (52.6 - 62.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

etc

I also think Defog should be the first move on the set since it is one the main reason to use it

Banned deucer.
So i gotta ask...

Why isn't whirlwind just taunt?

You basically say it's for CMers, but taunt lets you 1v1 spiritomb and even possibly musharna really well. (Also, didnt tomb leave the tier?). So you only really miss out on phazing uxie, but you can foul the sub and then taunt, then any toxic mon forces it out anyways. Meanwhile taunt rejects defensive hazard users.

Of course, there is a lot of info i'm probably missing (np users, BU mons, bp mons...), but therein lies the point-that info is missing from the analysis, too.

You may be technically required to mention what eviolite does

U-turn kinda blows since you want to stay in and fog rocks, rather than uturn out of them and take 50% of your life from the first sr before uturn and the sr when you come in later.

If ice and elec attacks are roostable then who cares about foul damage? When you talk aboug ice and elec attacks countering vullaby really just mention the following:

A:faster (obv but you didn't do it)
B:after roost attack does 33%+, i.e. 66%+ unroosted, which means attacking is your death. But say if you toxic'd first, you win
C: hax, if you stay in a real long time. But, eh. Espc. with toxic its nbd. Maybe mention hax if you don't.

Gurdurr and possibly other fighters can also knock your evio

Slurpuff and granbull have heal bell for your toxic, offensive slurpuff has to watch out for whirlwind rejecting setup too. And can get toxic'd. (Also, the bd variant won't enjoy a foul play right after it drums.) Sure it's a force out but not a dgaf.

Maybe mention stufff that knocks off, both force outs and surprises.

Burn obv halves foul play damage which is way worse, toxic sucks for any wall, so does regular poison. But it is still worth mentioning that sans lefties it's a bigger deal.

Aren't rock moves roostable? Elaborate a bit.

I don't really like the phys. D spread. I mean,

252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 8 Def Eviolite Vullaby: 288-340 (83.7 - 98.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(288, 292, 295, 298, 303, 306, 309, 312, 316, 319, 322, 325, 330, 333, 336, 340)

Sure phys d is a better check, but it's always 2hitkoed anyhow, i guess it switches in on cc or qa, needs full health for cc.

252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Vullaby: 114-135 (33.1 - 39.2%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO
(114, 116, 117, 118, 120, 121, 122, 124, 125, 126, 128, 129, 130, 132, 133, 135)

Knock+facade always 2hits, though the low roll koes right on the hp mark.

Rhydon is like, eh. He can megahorn your roosts and stone edge is doing a lot unroosted. I guess you can roll for a miss if you got toxic'd.

Sawk is pretty lol, i guess you can roost stall cc and maybe die/lose a lot of life. Foul needs 3 drops to ohko.

I guess i would bring up more important psychics or grasses but uh, you never mention any besides uxie. Maybe when you mention it counters them, go "such as blah idk simisage maybe like elygem, whatever its name is" or whatever mons are relevant? Fix plz.
