Whoever said UU battles were "short" was extremely mistaken

Backstory: Yesterday I made a UU "stall team" to compete in an 8 man UU tourney. I won the Tourney handily and figured I would try my luck at the UU ladder. Undefeated with a 17-0 record on the UU ladder, I felt confident in my ability to win with the team. However, upon clicking Find Match, I found myself matched up with josh-ua who I actually remember battling in UU before. I looked forward to a battle against a strong UU opponent and got ready for the match.

dont let the longness .. discourage you from reading. This was a pretty fun / strategic battle with a few twists (ie: you think someone is in total control and out of nowhere, the other person is in the drivers seat)

My Team:

His Team:

Every Battle needs a set of rules:

Ladder Match
Sleep Clause
Freeze Clause
OHKO Clause
Evasion Clause
Species Clause
Strict Damage Clause

josh-ua sent out Venusaur (lvl 100 Venusaur ?).
kd24 sent out Glaceon (lvl 100 Glaceon ?).

Glaceon vs. Venusaur is the opening match up and gives me mixed feelings. Although Glaceon would OHKO Venusaur with Ice Beam, Sleep Power, Choice Specs Leaf Storm, or Choice Specs Hidden Power Fire hurt Glaceon. And with Venusaur being faster then my Sub Salac Glaceon, I don't exactly feel confident about staying in. However, a Stall Team in UU needs to take risks so I decide to Substitute, bluffing a Choice Scarf and to scout. Who knows, maybe I am facing a slow Venusaur.

Venusaur used Sleep Powder.
Venusaur's attack missed!
Glaceon used Substitute.
Glaceon lost 25% of its health.
Glaceon made a substitute!

Interesting exchange here. Venusaur stays in to combat Glaceon but it's Sleep Powder misses. Glaceon takes this to its advantage and uses Substitute to protect itself from future Sleep Powder. With a Substitute up, I feel fully confident in my ability to Ice Beam. Not much in UU likes switching into a Glaceon, especially one behind a wall.

Glaceon used Ice Beam.
Grumpig lost 36% of its health.
Grumpig's leftovers restored its health a little!
Grumpig restored 6% of its health.

Grumpig comes in and the grin on my face widens and does so appropiately. This Glaceon is carrying Shadow Ball and Grumpig will lose to it quite easily. Grumpig can Psychic which means Glaceon has no need to be worry.

Glaceon used Shadow Ball.

Grumpig used Psychic.
The substitute took damage for Glaceon!

Grumpig breaks the Substitute but its health is so low that it would be impossible for Grumpig to survive another Shadow Ball. However before pressing Shadow Ball, I reflect upon my choices. If I do select Shadow Ball, Grumpig would lose. However, if the opponent carries a Normal-type or switches back to Venusaur, Shadow Ball would do very little damage. I could Ice Beam which might KO Grumpig, would dent a Normal-type, or finish off Venusaur. However, he could switch to a Steel-type that resists Ice and Ghost and since I have Hidden Power Fighting, I don't wish to waste it. I figure the safest option is Substitute, giving me a free chance against any switch in as well as getting me closer to salac activation if grumpig stays in.

josh-ua switched in Clefable (lvl 100 Clefable ?).

Clefable switches in which makes Subbing down a good choice. At least so it looks. After my first Ice Beam, I saw Clefable use Calm Mind, meaning I would not be able to win barring Freeze or a Critical Hit. I am confident that I should be able to get one of them.

I have one chance. If my opponent switches out to Weezing or Steelix to absorb the Explosion I lose. It literally comes down to this and if my opponent decides to stay in.

And it works. Altaria decides to stay in, not aware that an Explosion is coming. If at the point you think that my opponent was stupid for not switching then I might need to recap. If you recall earlier in the battle, Altaria was matched up against my Steelix. Instead of Exploding, I roared in case he decided to switch. Seeing my Roar, my opponent must have been extremely confident that I was running a Toxic / Roar / SR / Earthquake set. Seeing as I was likely to Roar next turn anyway, he took a chance to Earthquake. However, I pulled out Explosion which must have been a surprise to my opponent.

Weezing dies to Thunderbolt. You can sleep peacefully tonight little Rotom. I close out this strategic and fun match by switching from Rotom to Nidoqueen while my opponent was stopped cold by Reflect and Will-o-Wisp. We say our good games and go our seperate ways.

Props:

Everyone on my team actually did something extremely productive (well except Nidoqueen)
Stall on both teams was rather fun to play against
Not much "hax" although there were some crucial misses (just part of the game)

Slops:

Some general boneheaded moves by me
My team being "Altaria" weak
Some of those misses
Can't catch a crit or a long freeze for my life.

It was a good battle, but the commentary was sparse. If you don't want to comment some of the longer stall wars, then shrink that text down so we don't have to scroll through it.

Yeah what Darth Meanie said about the long stall war, shrink it, other than the very long battle I enjoyed this battle especially since Grumpig was a part of it, go Grumpig:)

Yeah, I agree with the shinking. Perhaps Bologos Warstory wuill give you a bit more inspiration on that fron in Stall Type matches, but I figure that stall must be pretty hard to write on anyway. It kept me interested the whoel way through (like some dont) so GJ overall I guess

Nice match KD ;P I'll have to try stall in UU again..

As the others said though, next time shrink it! Still, great job.

can you sleep more than one opponent in UU? Im not positive but it seemed like more than one of your opponents pokes were alseep at the same time.

Heh, i battled him with a uu stall team once and the match was just about this length (although i had Vileplume / Drapion / Lapras / Rotom / Froslass / Hitmontop). good match though, always been a big fan of stall in uu

Good warstory.
Same as the other comments about shortening the log a bit.
I played josh-ua with my uu mono poison team before.
It was a pretty good game too.
