I love the meme metagame on Smogoff, but for too long I’ve seen a certain meme dominating over the others in an uncompetitive way. I had a long discussion with the mods about how to deal with this situation.

We came to a conclusion and have decided a good first step is to quickban a certain meme that is way overused and overhyped on Smogon:

This was a pretty easy decision for us as followers of Smogoff know how this has absolutely dominated the beginning of page 5 of all Smogoff threads. This meme has been flexible enough to even use on page 10, 50, or 100. I for one need to see something different entering page 5 of a thread. Smogoff users have proved they have the potential to use something else, as shown in the Bellibolt appreciation thread:

There’s still a ton of work to do, which is why we’ve posted a survey on this thread. Thanks again to the mods for approving this thread and helping with furthering Smogoff meme diversity.

The poll will be opened for a week! To keep the integrity of the poll you are not allowed to change your vote, so choose wisely! Please respond to the poll so we can see what to suspect next!

You know usually a council decides what is suspected. That council is usually made up of prominent posters who've contributed and been apart of the community for a while. I'm not saying you aren't either of those I'm just wondering who from the smogoff council gave you permission to suspect something.

Secondly, we should absolutely not change the Gohan page 5 thing. It's a running joke and a tradition at this point thats older then your account. It's still funny and its still good. Quick banning is probably the worst idea ever heard.

The "page 5" meme, despite its overuse, retains significant value within the meta of internet culture and should not be dismissed outright. While its ubiquity might seem tiresome to some, its enduring presence highlights its adaptability and effectiveness as a comedic and communicative tool.

Firstly, the "page 5" meme's overuse can be attributed to its versatility and simplicity. Its basic premise—referencing a nonexistent or irrelevant page number—allows for easy adaptation to various contexts and subjects. This adaptability ensures its relevance in a wide array of online discussions, making it a go-to option for humor and commentary across different platforms.

Secondly, the meme's longevity suggests a deeper cultural resonance. Memes that endure often do so because they effectively encapsulate shared experiences or sentiments among internet users. In the case of "page 5," its persistence indicates that it continues to strike a chord with a significant portion of online communities, thereby solidifying its place in the evolving landscape of digital communication.

Furthermore, the "page 5" meme serves as a unifying force in online interactions. Its widespread recognition fosters a sense of camaraderie and shared understanding among users, reinforcing social bonds through humor and collective participation. This communal aspect is crucial in maintaining engagement and cohesion within digital communities, contributing positively to the overall dynamics of online discourse.

Critically, while the meme may be seen as overcentralizing the meme meta, its very existence within this meta underscores its utility and relevance. The internet meme ecosystem thrives on diversity and adaptability, where memes rise and fall in popularity based on their ability to resonate with audiences. The "page 5" meme's enduring popularity signifies its continued effectiveness in capturing attention and eliciting reactions, thereby fulfilling its role as a valuable tool in the broader metagame of internet culture.

In conclusion, despite its overuse, the "page 5" meme remains a valuable asset within the digital landscape. Rather than dismissing it due to saturation, recognizing its ongoing value ensures that it can continue to enrich and enliven online interactions, further solidifying its place in the evolving tapestry of internet memes.

the lavos "unfortunate" copypasta should absolutely be added to this poll. it's like when you're watching family videos from when you were 3 years old, and you're doing something silly in the video, and your parents start laughing at it. but you know that while it might have been funny then, it's cringe now

I've always felt a little bad for him because I know how I would feel if I got screwed that badly in such a big match, but he also deserved it for willingly playing tournament.
