Diplomacy ★★★★★AMERICAN DIPLOMACY★★★★★ - GAME OVER (5-way draw)

Last year, everyone held their units by agreement; this year, people seem to still be in the habit of issuing hold orders from that, which is quite a bad thing. Holding is the worst thing you can do with a unit: before you issue a hold order, think long and hard about what else that unit can do.
What the fuck do you want me to do with my armies, shove them up my ass?

Winter 1843 Builds
Armies or fleets? It seems like fleets are the solution for most of the Powers lucky enough to ponder this question during the winter.

It is now Spring 1844. Powers should submit orders to me by Thursday, August 6th, at 9PM PST (GMT-7). Deadlines will remain flexible to account for my schedule, but don't push your luck!

GM's Notes:

I was excited to see what the British builds would be, there were a lot of interesting possibilities, but this seems like a safer route. No fleet in the Falklands could spell trouble in the south...

The other builds are fairly unsurprising, although I'm sure pulsar wishes she could afford to put a fleet down. Raider units are no joke!

Corrections
  • Argentina's A S.F.V.C. moved from Chaco Austral last fall, but I failed to reflect this in the post-movement map. That issue has been fixed, and the unit is now shown in its correct location.

Spring 1844 Moves, Part 1
The British are coming, the British are coming! Those Caribbean fleets are heading closer to Spanish territory in a hurry, and intentions are rarely peaceful when that happens. Meanwhile we've got chaos between Chile and Argentina, pandemonium at the Panama Canal, and multiple rambunctious raider units from the USA and New Granada!

Fall 1844 Moves, Part 2: Triple Retreat Troogaloo
Here's how the board looks at the end of a firecracker of a year:
r4a5DuY - Imgur.jpg

RETREATS:
Argentina A Asuncion retreats to Rio Grande do Sul
Argentina A S.F.V.C. retreats to Corr.
New Granada A Caqueta retreats to Amazonia

SUPPLY CENTER CHANGES:
Great Britain
has gained control of Yucatan, Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C., and New York City, but lost control of Surinam (+5 builds)
Chile has gained control of Cordoba and S.F.V.C. (+2 builds)
Venezuela has gained control of Panama and Surinam (+2 builds)
Brazil has gained control of Asuncion (+1 build)
Mexico has gained control of Veracruz (+1 build)
Peru has gained control of Hawaii (+1 build)
New Granada has gained control of Alaska, but lost control of Panama and Hawaii (-1 disband)
Spain has lost control of Yucatan, Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and Puerto Rico (-4 disbands)

Argentina and United States have lost control of all their remaining supply centers (-6 disbands), and are thus eliminated from the game. Aura Guardian you were dealt quite a bad hand for this game, and I appreciate your clever defensive and diplomatic efforts in spite of this. M2H this may have been your first game, but I think you did really well under the circumstances. Understanding how the board works always comes with time; the hard part is knowing how to negotiate, and you clearly have a grasp on that already, so I think you'll have a ton of fun if you stick with the game from here.

It is now Winter 1944. Build orders should be submitted to me by Monday, August 12th, at 9PM PST (GMT-7).

GM's Notes:

I never did a GM's Notes segment in the Spring! Whoops! Anyway, we finally have our first eliminations, and honestly they both make sense. The US and Argentina are two of the weaker Powers on the board, and one of them was piloted by a new player. I should also take this opportunity to apologize for the irregular deadline enforcement and update cadence, which will be over soon; my vacation will be done by the time I'll need to make the Spring '45 update.

Corrections:
  • The Spanish F Florida held in place, but this was not acknowledged on the Fall movement map.
  • Puerto Rico is now under British control despite still being colored pink... try not to look at it.
  • The Chilean F Patagonia moved to Pampas, but this is not acknowledged on the post-movement map. The fleet is still in Pampas, and Patagonia is therefore vacant for a build.

Winter 1844 Builds
Even with all the room in the world to build whatever units he wants, Great Britain has still somehow forgotten what an army is. Fascinating. Meanwhile, other parts of the board are forgetting what a fleet is!

GM's Notes:

With two Powers gone from the game for good, we can quickly see how the alliance structures on the board have gotten us to this point and who's benefited the most. The Britain-Mexico-Spain partnership gunned down their initial target in the United States, but Britain has already turned on Spain, indicating the next stage of the conflict. Britain is the obvious board leader, and only the very south of the map is safe from their influence; down there, the Chile-Brazil alliance has made short work of Argentina, but Chile now has a major center advantage and a lot of armies that need something to do. Will they go for a stab, or venture north towards Peru? And what will happen to the Falkland Islands? Another shoutout goes to Venezuela, who has been showing the value of restraint and slow play in his strategy; Jalmont has managed to gradually grow and snag the critical center of Panama without making any true enemies besides New Granada, who is fighting a two-and-a-half-front war at this stage.

Corrections
  • Chile was allowed to build F Patagonia despite the previous map showing Patagonia as occupied; this was a mistake, and that fleet was actually in Pampas, leaving Patagonia vacant.

Spring 1845 Moves, Part 1
With two contenders out of the running, two questions dominate the board: who will fall next, and who will benefit most from it? Given current events in the center of the map, I'd look there for your answers.

Dots, dots, dots! Britain's gobbling them all up like it's a fire sale! Everything must go! They're not the only ones, either; the Peru-Venezuela alliance continues its campaign against New Granada to great success, while Chile and Brazil come to blows further south with a light guiding hand from the Royal Navy...

Venezuela has gained control of Cartagena (+1 build)
Brazil has lost control of Sao Salvador (-1 disbands)
New Granada has lost control of Bogota, Cali, and Cartagena, but already destroyed two units (-1 disbands)
Spain has lost control of Haiti and Santo Domingo, but already destroyed two units, so they have no adjustments.
Chile has not gained or lost control of any centers, so they have no adjustments.

It is now Winter 1845. Build orders should be submitted to me by Wednesday, August 21st, at 9PM PST (GMT-7).

GM's Notes:

I expected Peru to quickly start another war with New Granada on its last legs, but Mexico was a surprising target to me! Bluedoom was the only player in this whole game to remember what a convoy is until recently, and he certainly reminded us of that here. Skillful defensive maneuvers by pulsar kept her western flank secure, and now with a new build she should be a bit more secure despite the British fleet in her home waters. I find it quite funny that such a large tactical scuffle between Chile and Brazil resulted in no centers changing hands.

Corrections:
  • During the Spring phase, maps incorrectly showed the British F Santiago de Cuba as being located in Jamaica. This was fixed before it could affect any movements, and the order lists from Spring and Fall (as well as the Fall maps) are correct indications of British unit positions.
  • On the movement map, the movement arrows for Chilean and Brazilian units around Corr. are incorrectly colored. The Brazilian unit has a red arrow despite its move being successful, and the Chilean unit had a partially black arrow due to a layering issue. This did not affect the actual orders or results of the turn, and everything there has been adjudicated correctly.
