CNN: Video of Hamas shooting festivalgoers at point-blank range

Can you please give me some evidence? I've given you multiple articles to prove my points and you've given me nothing even after I asked you multiple times.

I already provided the link and pointed you to this earlier.

This is a very disappointing decision and I urge you and the moderating team to reconsider that decision.

The only way we get to awareness is by continuing the discussion publicly.

Putting this behind closed doors is not the way forward.

Over 41,000 people have died and millions more are in imminent danger, every single day.

With respect, I’ve always provided my sources, explained myself, and pointed to news and current events.

Why can’t that continue?
Because not everyone is as interested, invested, or equipped to discuss it, especially specifically on the topic of Hamas that has now expanded 3 pages.

It is an important topic, but the topic was becoming circular, and when opinions are unyielding there's not much sense in continuing or we'll be here ad infinitum.

Just out of interest, do you think the people of Gaza get a break from discussing their impending demise?

The reason it is being discussed is because it is an event covered the world over. This stuff matters.

Could you at least confirm that if new information/new events come to light, we can still raise it and discuss it in this thread?

Otherwise, and I have to be honest here - this feels targeted to stop the discussion and to stop awareness?

I'm not stopping discussion on the topic of Gaza. Please take more time to read my posts.

Can we just make a new thread on Palestine / Israel, similar to the old one on Ukraine?

Edit: tbh even if you make people stop posting it will last for like 2 days. It's just a big issue people care about. But at the same time it would be nice if this thread could talk about literally anything else.

We've thought about it and initially debated it; I'm not entirely convinced we need to at this juncture, and reopening the floor to politics in general is honestly still in its trial phase overall (new team and everything), all things considered. 3 months has felt like an eternity in some aspects, in others it still feels like we're getting our feet wet. If discussion becomes untenable in this thread we'll certainly revisit it. I think we're still in a good balance atm.

So Ukraine is uhh, invading Russia. Can we talk about that or are we gonna be silent for 2 days until we can talk about the Jews again.

Since Harria seems poised to demolish Trump aid to Ukraine seems pretty likely in the long term. Which is great, since almost literally everyone reading this lives in a Western nation and benefits from Russia getting their cheeks clapped by Europe's poorest nation.

I want to be critical of Smogon people who will excuse a terrorist strike on a music festival but I can't, because I know if Ukraine did the same I would still find ways to explain why it was somehow Russia's fault.

Dicks out for Ukraine.

Putin hates America so much that he decided to go have his own Vietnam to one-up us. God bless.

Know what you're right. We should double down on the Vietnam analogy. In Vietnam the US couldn't really enter North Vietnam for fear of getting China involved. The US couldn't even bomb North Vietnam for most of the war because Soviet Peacekeepers and pilots dying could escalate to WW3.

Anyway I guess what I'm saying is the US + allies should enter West Ukraine. As long as we just call the soldiers and pilots "peacekeepers" it's perfectly fine.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/har...upport-1st-time-homeowners/story?id=112877568

Harris proposes a $25k payment support for first time homeowners.
Guess who just put a $25k downpayment on a house literally yesterday....
If Harris / Biden are able to enact this, Republicans are just gonna file bullshit court cases and its not gonna go through, just like what happened with the student loan debt relief. Sad state of affairs.

That said, the acts she proposed may be able to get by congress, so home owners might not be completely screwed.

the down payment assistance is not a plan that could even remotely ever be enacted by executive order, so it would require congress (i.e. extremely unlikely to happen without some good news in the senate). on the off chance it does go through congress, there's no viable court challenge.

the student debt relief plan shouldn't have been blocked the way it was anyway but the legal cases are very different anyhow. there's a huge difference between applying massive relief to debts already incurred without very specific congressional action and instead using niche provisions to apply relief to huge groups of people vs just implementing a duly enacted program for down payment assistance prospectively to new home purchases through a program that congress approved.

So Gaza is now the place with the highest number of eye amputations in children - ever.

https://aje.io/22x3ul?update=3124293

Canadian ophthalmologist Yasser Khan describes losing track of the number of eye amputations he performed to children in Gaza, which he visited in December and March on medical missions.

“I’ve lost track of how many eye amputations, as an ophthalmologist, I did myself. Eye amputations or eviscerations are not a normal occurrence. They’re relatively rare,” he said in a video he shared on X.

“The patients I saw whose eyes were removed were ages 2, 6, 9, 10, 13, 16 – all children. Gaza is now a place with the highest amount of eyes lost, in ten months, in modern history.”

“an eye for an eye” - in this case the intention, it seems, is to make them all blind.

I have never in my life seen such suffering inflicted on anyone people in such a small amount of time by any one group of people or nations. This you think should be consigned to the history books, but is an everyday occurrence in Gaza, today.

It could not happen without the United States support. That’s the thing. The discussion at the UN this week was spot on - the United States cannot be mediator and backer to one of the parties in this conflict. The UN should pressure the USA to sequester themselves from the negotiations.

We need a weapons embargo globally to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

Ok, genocide in Gaza, Biden dropping out of the election for Harris... and a bunch of other stuff I didn't pay attention too...

So can somebody give me a run down on how that horrific war started? like the motives and other reasons?

And is it looking good for Harris to win? idk I just want some opinions.

It’s not a “war”.

It’s a genocide.

Ongoing since the 1948 “Nakba”.

Put simply, it’s the desired ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from what was the British Mandate in historic Palestine after Zionism and Zionists declared the state of Israel in 1948.

After 76 years, multiple peace agreements and border deals (all broken by Israel) we are now at the point where a two state solution looks increasingly unlikely and the Israeli state surviving politically as an apartheid state also looks increasingly unlikely.

Israel is suffering mass migration out of Israel amongst economic instability (up to 60,000 businesses may fail by the end of this year) and Gazas population of 2.3 million is now contained within 11% of the total 25 mile by 5 mile square area, making it the most densely packed population anywhere in the world.

At the same time, over 65% of civilian infrastructure including farmland, hospitals, schools etc have been destroyed or badly damaged. There’s now a serious risk of polio outbreaks amid mass dehydration, starvation and death by bombing, sniping and more.

The motives for both sides are pretty clear from the ICJ ruling of last month (google it).

Overall, “never again” after the holocaust should have been “never again for everyone”. Besides the other genocides that have happened elsewhere in the world, the current ongoing one is one of the most brutal and horrific assaults on a largely unarmed population.

The current escalation in the overall scheme of things started on 8 October 2023 after Gaza’s ruling group, Hamas, made an incursion into Israel on 7 October 2023, in which up to 1200 people died both at their hands and the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) and over 200 Israelis were taken hostage for the purposes of negotiating releases of the Palestinians held without charge in Israel.

At the same time, settler violence and land take in the West Bank has increased exponentially, reducing the possibility of a unified Palestinian state to virtually zero. All done with the explicit support of Israel’s right wing government and IDF.

Meanwhile Israel trades blows with Palestine’s supporters, Hezbollah in the south of Lebanon, the Houthis attack shipping associated with Israel, and Iran has been provoked into a missile attack a few months back and potentially another one soon due to a number of high profile assassinations that Israel is suspected to have carried out, but have not taken responsibility for, including a direct strike on Tehran, Irans capital, killing Hamas’ top negotiator.

The death toll in Gaza at time of writing is 40,099 people, with over 100,000 injured, 10,000 buried under rubble, and 2.3 million people displaced from their homes and living amongst sewage and rubbish.

Children have taken the brunt of death and injuries with over 17,000 killed and up to 7000 now in a new category by charities - orphaned, no surviving family members of any kind, and possibly suffering multiple amputations.

Whilst all of this has been happening, the USA has been acting as “mediators” between the parties whilst also providing tens of billions of “military aid” including 2000lb “bunker buster” bombs that have been used supposedly to destroy tunnelling structures in Gaza, most of which we haven’t seen any evidence of from IDF or Israeli sources.

The total tonnage of bombs dropped on the tiny enclave of Gaza is now multiples higher than the total tonnage dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Dresden and London during WW2.

So in short: it’s a continuation of a long standing and attrition led genocide and population displacement that has been ongoing since 1948, just accelerated this past 10 months as a result of Israel’s far right government and the USA’s “ironclad support” for Israel’s “defence” through offence.

It’s also been the deadliest time for doctors, paramedics, civil police, journalists and charity workers who have suffered an extraordinary amount of deaths and injuries from IDF air strikes, to the extent that many outside of Israel have stated bluntly that they believe Israel directly targets these groups to make conditions unbearable for the Palestinian population.

I think that’s a fair summation?

I am happy to provide citations later.

Well we went about half a day without talking about Palestine. That's a new record.
What do you expect though? People to stay silent on it? “Excuse me, would you mind awfully not talking about that ongoing genocide for a bit”.

Apathy, silence and appeasement led us to the holocaust in WW2. Repeated inaction by the international community has led us here, yet again. People who are passionate about human rights and angry at what is happening are going to talk about it.

I personally am sick of reading about the nonsensical Republican/Democrat electioneering claptrap we’ve seen in this thread for weeks on end but I’m not going to tell everyone to stop posting on it, they’re venting their concerns and thoughts and more power to their collective elbows for doing so.

If you don’t want to read my posts, there’s an ignore button right there, use it.
