Metagame SV OU Metagame Discussion v4

I disagree on your take on Kingambit. Although it's certainly powerful, using it effectively in endgame requires you to play the rest of the game skillfully and without using Tera on another mon. Being in a situation where a game comes down to a Kingambit 50/50 means that either your team wasn't sufficiently equipped to handle Kingambit or you simply got outplayed. Gambit's non-Sucker moves lack priority, obviously, and it's incredibly slow. This means that offensive counterplay is prevalent, as Gambit is not so powerful that it can KO dark resists with Sucker unless they're already incredibly chipped. Defensively countering it is also, although admittedly not particularly easy, quite possible, with Dondozo handling most sets (although admittedly only really fitting on stall) and combos of other solid defensive mons being able to take it on as well. Sure, Kingambit can clean up if its counters are all gone, but that applies to basically every offensive threat in the metagame, and without its counters gone Gambit can't really sweep, unlike mons like Moon which can blast past both offensive and defensive checks alike if they're allowed to setup.

I also disagree with Gliscor being unhealthy. It provides a unique combination of absorbing Knock Off and passive recovery that nothing else can provide to stall in a generation where stall generally struggles to be viable, while also providing good utility to other types of teams. In my opinion, Waterpon is more unhealthy than both Gambit and Gliscor, as there is exactly one mon that defensively checks all sets (Amoongus) and it gets 2HKOd by +2 Tera Water Ivy Cudgel. Unlike other insane stallbreakers like Ursaluna and Hoopa-Unbound, however, Waterpon is fast enough to also work well into more offensive teams.

Better players than me have already made all of these points, but I figured I'd say it since the Likeshop thing is incentivising me to be more active on forums.
Was going to laugh react for the agenda but you want a woger ban.

So the thing that was going to put OU in a frenzy is the very real possibility of doing a random suspect test? With all due respect, this is disappointing and lame.

If tera blast has enough traction to get a ban, it should show up in the surveys and eventually be tested. As for the rest, if crazy stuff is tested like Solgaleo, Lugia, Chi-Yu, or Moltes or Dozo on the other side, it's not going to happen anyway. Happy for whoever is excited, but I can't be arsed with this.
What about it is random? The people who contribute the likes will decide

EVERYONE PITCH IN FOR THE SUSPECTS THIS IS NOT A DRILL

If we raise 500000 points for this I will be proud of you all, because the amount of chaos that would happen because of this will be fun to watch unfold.

Personally I chose to pitch in for all the ubers that keep getting brought up as potential drops because it would be funny to see them all drop at once.

Palafin/Lugia/Solgaleo/Zama-C/Urshifu

you do realize that the likeshop is supposed to be for fun, right? And not complaining that an ultimate reward is 500000 likes?
Likeshop is fun, and getting to buy a ou suspect is fun! but i think people would be less critical if this was always worded as a just for fun silly surprise, instead of something more impactful ot serious. We can talk about all these wild options for bought suspects, but most of them will not receive any support once you actually get the reqs, and the only ones with a chance to pass are things the community was already talking about, so it doesnt feel like gambling the tier or anything.

also for anyone who doesnt care abt buying an ou suspect you should still check the likeshop theres often real fun stuff there

Man wrote an essay complaining about Likeshop integrity of all things

It’s incredibly possible to get to 500k likes if people were remotely together and tactical about it. If you spend your time being lame like this, then obviously it’ll be over before it begins.
Silly finch..my tactic IS to make the most lame hottakes every second so at least 1 person will agree with each..and once i’ve reached 500k..

I'm using the informal meaning of the word, I'm not saying it's going to be mathematically random. I just said that I'm disappointed by the announcement given how much hype was built around it. That's my opinion, but you seem to have a problem with it, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I’m disappointed you’re going out of your way to spend your time being mad at this. Glad the feeling is mutual

I commend Finch for giving forumposters that are not ladderly gifted a way to participate much more in-depth in suspect tests. this is a fantastic idea! Cannot wait to be apart of this historic movement! Personally, I think Palafin has the best shot of staying OU so that's what my eye is on

Nah, it has to be collective

They don’t need to be together. It’s a collective like total. Then, people who contribute will decide.

It’s supposed to be high. Tiering is pretty serious and letting the community decide comes with substantial risk for the hobby of thousands of people.

This has never been done before and is an awesome, unique opportunity. Not really my fault your attitude is perpetually negative.
I literally said I appreciate this novel approach dude and that's why I'm trying to give some positive input. It's new and rough around the edges. Maybe if you said, 500,000 total likes and we get a suspect, then we vote on what is being suspected. Splintering potential suspects this early just siphons votes away from other potential suspects. If TB suspect gets 300,000 and Fin gets 300,000 then no one wins.

We had a survey that showed majority of support for tiering action on Terastallization a year ago and the best we can do is having the community do all the legwork. Make it a 500,000 threshold for a silly/controversial suspect that won't pass anyway if we want to have fun, and then (or before) have a TB/Tera Preview suspect, imo.

Once again, I respect the approach but it just needs a little bit of polishing/logistical improvement for this to reach its full potential.

This won't just determine one suspect, this could determine multiple

Not just a tera blast suspect, but lots of things could drop from ubers as a result of this.

Everyone who pitches in gets to decide as a collective what may happen to my understanding.

isn’t it just 1 pool of 500k and then a vote on what to suspect or something
No, a suspect needs to reach 500k on its own. So, if someone says "Flutter Suspect" they then need 500k reaction score total.
I was thinking maybe we could have a list of potential suspects, have people spend their votes on which one they want and then whatever gets the most points wins.
