UT Finchinator

I'm gonna be honest, despite being Palafin's #1 fan I do not think this should count. 150k+ likes pooled by people are going to a test they did not choose to fund and did not realize they were funding. We have overwhelming majority, but every other like had no idea that it was going to be pooled until it was announced today and fully funded. I just don't fw this vibe of people being forced to give in

Okay team, big announcement.

The profile banner access group will persist after likeshop closes. If you're indecisive and want to change it twice a week, more power to you. We do reserve the right to revoke it individually if you abuse it (ie HiZo or setting inappropriate banners) but like, use common sense and you're fine.

(I do not have any update on the Nevada situation at this time beyond my lawyers are working on it)
what the hell? I would’ve bought this if this was the offer

Hi, the pooling together was strictly my idea and UT gave me creative freedom for the OU suspect prize while running this and keeping up with 50 pages. UT has pretty much been working like a madman on this and the structure of the OU prize was my doing. This was made clear early on both in the thread and in my posts, but I recognize it’s hard to keep up with posts sometimes. I don’t blame anyone for that and I am not going to pretend like this was a no-brainer decision either as it clearly isn’t.

Personally, it seemed unlikely we would get 500k worth of reacts on the same Pokemon or suspect topic because people on this site never agree on things to that extent — I actually kind of wish I changed it to 250k, but obviously cannot act on hindsight.

I didn’t really give much thought on the specific pooling back then because this was unprecedented and it was hard to gauge what was right. Just felt like this increased the chance it was exciting for the community, which is my goal — to break up the monotony of the normal process and get everyone excited during a fun time of the year. Maybe my perception was off. I’m not here to try and steal people’s likes or force outcomes that go against the will of interested parties.

My initial thought was to pool everything and then let people vote with some semblance of majority winning (potentially a weighted vote via PM based on how many likes contributed). Had we done that to a tee, it would’ve easily been Palafin winning, but honestly that’s (partially) because I dumped 180k on it and the wave of momentum from the first day. Just seemed like a fun outcome that gave the playerbase a new toy to try out.

I am in meetings today and then need to tend to a family member tonight, so no suspect will go up tonight regardless. I will have time tomorrow though. If people feel strongly about it not counting or restructuring, let me know and we can talk it out and I’ll decide tomorrow. Tag me or PM me if you feel strongly.

If not, I’ll happily get it up tomorrow or Friday. I personally would like for it to go up and do think that people had a way of knowing the parameters that UT and I made clear, but also recognize that there’s a lot going on, things get lost, and people have different ideas.

ok can I finance a banner por favor, I apologize UT you should not go to jail

:talonflame: find friends willing to donate 4.5k and we have a deal

FWIW this is being discussed internally and can be considered “on hold” for now with a future ruling coming later tonight or early tomorrow. My bad again for lack of clarity.

  • An OU suspect test of your choice - 500,000 likes (quantity available: the 1) FULLY FUNDED
Can be pooled among as many users as needed to hit 500k. Suspect must be within reasonable tiering practices — i.e: no complex bans — and on something topically relevant in the metagame. Must be approved by Finchinator and Ruft, we can provide a list of reasonable options if necessary. Will be launched at the conclusion of the badgeshop, or one week after an ongoing suspect ends, if applicable.

I'm sry but this was specifically called a suspect test of your choice and not a suspect test deciding what later, meaning likes should only be counted towards the choice picked by the user. I also dont think it should be required of everyone to read through 1000+ posts to find added restrictions. If all likes are pooled together to one suspect no matter what they were initially for than pls don't count mine towards that no matter what it ends up being for. This just feels like an illusion of choice esp. when it is most likes decides which would basically just be finchinator decides with 1 added step which is further from a community decision than a council decision.

We are almost certainly reverting the decision to make it so the likes are not pooled as they were and people can get their likes back, so do not worry.

It’s not worth causing disagreements over a fun community project. I appreciate feedback people like you and lax (as well as others privately) provided. There will be a formal post on this when I have spare time later, but everyone can relax in the meantime and not worry.

With this said, nobody was required to read through “1000+ posts” and I hope nobody is upset at UT, who organized this thread and went through 50+ pages of requests. If you want to be frustrated, feel free to direct it at me and only me. I should’ve been more clear or I should’ve fleshed out the idea more initially. I wrote the description in the OP and I didn’t draw enough attention to my initial posts because I didn’t think it was a big deal — it clearly was and that’s on me. I apologize for that, but at the same time some implications people are making are silly.

Have a nice day.

...wait, so are we still getting a suspect test?

I'm not entirely sure of the logistics of it, but given how there really are only like two camps (Palafin and Tera/Blast), would it not be wisest to just ask users who didn't specify beyond OU suspect (or who did but for causes which are below 10k like Kingambit or like Gholdengo or Lugia or whatever) whether they would like to commit their likes to one of the two that would actually reach 500k/have them refunded due to not supporting the leading elements?

I'm sure this is and has been a ton of work, but I am just curious what people see as the most sensible way forward if things aren't a lost cause.
