The New York Mets are eliminated from the 2025 playoffs, being shut out by the Miami Marlins.

The Reds could have sealed their fate by beating the Brewers' JV team, which started 3 backup position players, gave half the game to a 4th, gave their ace 2 innings only, and used its closer in the 4th inning. The Reds lost, giving the Mets control of their destiny, and they lost.

What a world.

Earlier this month, FanGraphs gave the Reds a 1% chance to make the playoffs, and the Mets a 97% playoff chance. On September 5, the Reds were 70-71, going 13-8 since. The Mets were 76-65, 6 games ahead, but went 7-14 since, falling to 0 games ahead and losing the tiebreaker.

Once the Reds lost, FanGraphs gave the Mets a 63% chance to win in Miami and secure a playoff berth.
