Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

Home integration isn’t delayed each generation because of development time. It’s because they want you to spend your time capturing all the Pokemon in-game instead of transferring them down.
That very well may be. Though seeing as Champions will be connecting to HOME to bring your Pokémon over and not directly to the mainline games, the point stands that HOME integration for the Gen 10 games would have to be added right after release if Champions is planned to be used for the VGC events leading to Worlds 2027 (since they should begin around December or January).

I suppose they could use Champions for Worlds 2027 itself but have most if not all VGC events leading up to it played on-cart. That would also give them time to iron out any kinks with Gen 10 mechanics in Champions that may arise in the meantime.

It really depends on when exactly LZA is coming out.

Champions should be a couple of months later, and it'll come with Home integration out of the box effectively linking LZA and SV.

That's when it'll start being used in VGC. It'll absolutely have a couple of events ran on it before Worlds to iron out the kinks.

I'd say early 2026 is the safest bet.

In regards to what typings or whatever the starters could become, I'm not sure I buy into the "Disarming Voice = Grass/Fairy" stuff that people post around a lot.

There are so many pokemon, and quite a lot of them never go thru substantial moveset changes as games come out and generations progress until they remember that pokemon exists and/or they become a focus. The example that comes to mind is Ledian not getting big moveset changes until Generation 4 and Generation 7 specifically, the former because of HGSS and the latter because of USUM.

Yeah it's possible disarming voice on Chikorita = Grass/Fairy, but also honestly that line has so many moves it should learn if you look at similar pokemon that it just doesn't learn. I think it is more likely the designers were looking at its learnset and were like "wait why doesn't it learn this move, okay it does now." The other thing with Disarming Voice specifically is that every starter in Gen 9 learns it, none of which are Fairy type, so they could have just decided it is an early TM/TR that starters get and are only updating it slowly as there's a starter they remember exists.

An alternate theory:

I think the difference is that revenge is a much easier move to distribute, while disarming voice is mostly found with fairy or fairy egg group pokemon, the main exceptions being swablu (got it in oras, so i assume for its fairy mega), milotic, espurr, lechonk and flittle. The level up distribution seems a lot more tight, and its only the TM where it expands to a broader "cute things".

Obviously its not confirmation, but it is a very fairy type/fairy "design" coded move

Dewott has always learned Revenge, Chikorita did not learn Disarming Voice prior to ZA.

This is not just a Chikorita, but a "Chikorita from ZA"™. It might as well be a whole new pokemon, just like Dewott. We wouldn't even be having this discussion were there not a possibility of a new pokemon tied to the Chikorita line being released.

Back in pre-release BW, the argument was that most pokemon who learned Revenge were Fighting-types, and that the non-Fighting pokemon who learned it (except for lol Pineco by breeding) were all fully evolved. So watching a samurai-inspired NFE pokémon get it was obviously a foreshadowing of its evolution's typing. Until, well, it wasn't.

I do think Disarming Voice feels more restricted (the Bulbapedia article has a lot of... pink) but it's not enough for me to ignore the PTSD similarities.

AZ's key art is one of the most highly liked posts on the Serebii twitter account. The only things above it are the initial reveal of the Paldea starters, Lechonk and various elemental Mikus. Now tell me: If this is the reaction AZ coming back gets then what the hell is going to happen if/when they drop adult Silver or N with a beard

I don't think anyone is saying it's guaranteed. But:
There is likely some kind of significant change to Chikorita coming(mega or regional)
That change will probably involve a new typing
Chikorita has never had Disarming Voice before, despite having appeared in various games with the move, including while it's a TM
Disarming Voice has likely been added to Chikorita's level-up movepool

Is it possible that we get a Mega-Meganium that's pure grass? Sure. I just don't think it's likely. And if not that, then the only evidence we have is Chikorita having a fairy-type move it's never had before and GF's obsession with choosing secondary typings for the starters that don't interact with FWG.

I feel the scenario is an important factor here.

Were these XY remakes than I don't think that many people would be excited cause we know AZ and his Floette's role in the story. Like even if it implied we'd learn more about them, it would still be a retelling/reimagining of XY at the end of the day. And, while they're important to the story, in contrast their roles are rather minor. AZ appears in a couple of few seconds cutscene being ominous, we get some build-up to who he is (infact we learn he's the past king of Kalos right before his major cutscene), and then we're hit with what many would probably feel like is one of the most tragic tales told in Pokemon. Then last time we see them is the end of the main story where we battle AZ, he remembers his love for people and Pokemon, and is reunited with his Floette. Then they vanish.

And let us consider up until this point we didn't know when PLZA was taking place. Legends: Arceus took place a couple hundred years in the past and, while neat we got to meet a whole batch of ancestors of characters we know, they are also new characters and do not (and many did not) reflect the personality their descendent had; thus each character was a mystery.

But now we know PLZA takes place at least a few years after XY. For those who felt connected to the characters in XY, this would be exciting as we could see how they've grown and developed since we last saw them. So now people are slightly pumped. They're probably thinking we're going to see Sycamore, or Clemont, or maybe one or all the rivals. Finally we get to the new character section of the teaser. We're first shown the rival; "they look alright". Then they show a professionally dressed older woman and tough guy; "wonder what they're about?". And then the surprise. We're shown a tall building covered in vines, smash cut to an older gentleman. "Hey, he looks familiar..." some may be thinking. But only for a second, and the camera than pans over to Eternal Flower Floette confirming who they are. It's AZ, the important mysterious character who had a minor but impactful role who vanished after overcoming 3000 years of hardship. It was a wonder if we would see him again, or at least in any significant way. But THERE HE IS! The first (and so far only) confirmed returning character from XY, front and center, dressed dapperly, and looking like someone who we're going to see a significant amount during the game (and thus no doubt learn a lot more about, including what he and Fleotte has been doing after being reunited after 3000 years a few years ago)! Even if you're someone who didn't really connect with any of the characters in XY, even within that group I can imagine a few would have some empathy for AZ; so him being the first confirmed back is probably the only character many would share feeling interested/excited about.

Now to be fair, it probably feels a bit bigger because the people in the video were excited about every little thing announced. Concierge, TCG Pocket, Mega Pokemon ex, Champion May & Brendan in Masters EX, Darkrai & Cresselia in Sleep, new Pokemon in Unite... whatever was going on in GO and Cafe Remix. Cheers after cheers. And then they got REALLY excited with Pokemon Champions, so that really got them in a good mood to be loud. But still, as the X likes have shown, just in general people like seeing a returning character; especially one with a lot of mystery behind them.

Now, would Silver or N have raised such a thundering cheer? Oh most certainly. THOUGH, I think them appearing would have also raised some confusion of "what are they doing there?!". AZ is someone many were expecting to eventually see, it's no mystery why he would be there, but no one was expecting to see him immediately; especially not in the first gameplay teaser trailer. Now, I do think Silver and N may would have gotten more likes on X cause a lot more people would consider them one of their "favorite" characters. But AZ has been revealed at the right place at the right time. Don't mistake me for trying to downplay his appearance, I'm excited to see him to, but it's likely had he not been shown right now and after some other returning characters the current surge of excitement he's causing would very likely be smaller.

There is likely some kind of significant change to Chikorita coming(mega or regional)

Say, wouldn't it be interesting if they did change up their stats?

Chikorita goes from 45/49/65/49/65/45//318 to 45/45/49/65/65/49//318 (from Wall to Special User).
Tepig from 65/63/45/45/45/45//308 to 65/65/45/33/45/65//318 (from Slow Tank to Fast Tank).
And Totodile from 50/65/64/44/48/43//314 to 50/55/60/40/60/55//318 (from Physical User to All-Around Wall).

If it wasn't clear I was suggesting Silver and N reappearances in hypothetical future Johto/Unova sequels respectively, I obviously do not expect them in this game lol

As for the first paragraph: Yeah, that's the point!

We never saw Dewott use Revenge prior to the game's release though? Not counting the guy who leaked the art of the entire dex, we didn't see any of the starters' evos prior to launch.

Anyone who was making assumptions like that was just stupid.

We absolutely did. I remember it and I'm not from a parallel universe (I think). We didn't see Samurott and the others, but the mid-evos were revealed.

The art was shown in Corocoro a week before the game came out, with their types, and there is no instance of Dewott or any member of its line using Revenge. I searched up the old scans of it to check.

So you're correct we saw Dewott before release, but it was not using Revenge and it was shown that Samurott was mono-Water at the same time.

Huh, something just came to mind, and I'm more saying this just so if it happens I can refer back to this post and say I "called it". Yes, I know, superficial and petty.

While obviously most things will be calling back to XY, those weren't the only Gen VI games. Curious if we may get any ORAS references/characters (aside from their Mega Evolutions). And I also mean specifically ORAS, not something which were in the original Gen III games. To list a few:

Aarune: An easily forgettable side character, if you're struggling to remember who he was Aarune was the Secret Base Expert. They expanded the Secret Base mechanic to "Super-Secret Bases" which essentially let you turn your base into a pseudo Gym and Aarune was your tutorial and had a few side quests. You may more infamously remember him having a Flygon and a later interview revealing it didn't get a Mega Evolution because artists couldn't agree on a good design (also to get Garchompite in ORAS you had to collect 1000 flags from other player's Secret Bases which was quite a chore).
Now you're probably thinking "well there's no way they'll bring him back as we're stuck in Lumiose City, not that many Secret Base possibilities". But... actually I don't really have that convincing of a counter-argument without going into unsubstantiated speculation. Like the only speculation I could maybe make is there's that holographic technology thing and maybe they could use that for Secret Base making, but I'd also feel that would go against the character's "explorer" aesthetic. Unless we have some wilderness locations outside of Lumiose City, I'll admit this one is a reach... to have them finally make a Mega Flygon.

Lisia: A little more memorable, Lisia is a Coordinator Idol meant to be both the introducer and boss competitor in Pokemon Contests Spectaculars (and she is also Wallace's niece). She's also one of the NPCs with a Signature Mega Pokemon: Altaria.
Now with them introducing a new battling system I'm not suggesting they add Pokemon Contests on top of things (THOUGH integrating Active Time Battles into Pokemon Contests like they do in the anime would be a way to spice things up). Still, Lisia being an idol and a very fashionable one at that, I could at least see her being in Lumiose City as just a tourist if nothing else. (Guess I could also give a quick mention to Chaz, her rival who has a secret crush for her. Maybe we'll discover between the years they got together... or they can play up the joke he's a hopeless romantic but still wants to support Lisia wherever she goes (someone has to carry all her shopping bags))

Zinnia: Yeah, probably the biggest one to mention here. Zinnia may no longer be the Lorekeeper, but that doesn't mean she still can't get involved in situations concerning Dragon Legendaries. Also, I think it would be interesting if she had interactions with Emma. I always felt Emma shared some traits with Zinnia that may have meant she was a Draconid, and this would be something Zinnia may be able to recognize and give Emma a story to explore (as well as Zinnia who would in this scenario take up a mentor role).

And that's really all for the ORAS exclusive characters. Though here are some bonus Hoenn characters that got a notable expansion to their story:

Professor Cozmo: Professor Cozmo got some significant (and rather tragic) backstory expansion and had an important role in the Delta Episode. Now, you'd think Cozmo, a meteoriticist, wouldn't really have anything to do with Kalos or what's going on in Lumiose City. But there is something: Cozmo and Sycamore are friends and had worked together researching meteorites (Sycamore likely trying to find a connection between meteorites and Mega Stones). Also, let's not forget the company behind Lumiose City's redevelopment is called Quasartico Inc.; Kalos didn't really have any "space" themes but Hoenn certainly did. If there is a connection between Mega Evolution (which also means Infinity Energy) and meteorites, Professor Cozmo could be of help. Huh, as a side thought, Professor Cozmo would probably go crazy over Minior, maybe they should save him for a Sun & Moon remake or Alola Legends game.

Brigette: It's been a few gens since we moved on from Bank, would be nice to see what Brigette has been doing. Considering a part of Legends gameplay is catching (and releasing) a lot of Pokemon, and Lumiose's redevelopment plan would require someone with expertise of moving around large population of Pokemon, maybe Quasartico, Inc. could have hired her to help with the Pokemon management.

Let's see, who else can I mention... *sees Mr. Bonding*

Ok, had a look at the old-ass Serebii forums and found the answer:

I'm stupid, we saw that Oshawott learned Revenge. Not Dewott. Which I should've recalled correctly considering I was comparing it to Chikorita here instead of Bayleef lmao...

Moving on so I'm not accused of derailing, I reiterate that I agree there's a case for a Fairy-type in Chikorita line, but.

I think the main reason everyone is honing in on Disarming Voice is because we had the same discussion nine years ago (whoa) when we saw it on Popplio, and that time the prediction that it meant it would evolve into a fairy type was correct

It would be pretty funny though if Flittle was the start of a new trend and Meganium ended up being psychic type

Regarding the leaks (I am not posting or saying what they are) - however - for those in the know, I just want to register that where the starters are concerned, I will be most disappointed if there's no regional variant for their final forms this time around. Would be immensely frustrating.

Somewhat related but is there going to be a thread opened where we could discuss leaks? Obviously not posting pictures or videos of them but just a general discussion thread about them?
