As someone who hasn’t participated in this qualifying but was heavily invested into team NL performance, here is my take.

To follow a precedent set back in 2012 is just mindboggling to me. There have been plenty of suggestions by players that actually got community support and weren’t just for their own gain.

I understand reluctancy to not change something in the middle of it happening. #24TeamWCOP, albeit being a bit of a meme, shows that the scene has competatively grown enough where we can have a format where 24 teams realistically are good enough to not water the format down.

The format might also be one of the worst things I’ve ever seen and can potentially be biased against teams who did well in the Ubers/RoA metagames. A team being able to send in just one player is kind of crazy in my eyes too, it’s a team format first and foremost.

I’m not going to say what solution is the best but this decision just further strengthens the #24TeamWCOP shouts. Come up with a good one, or have an open discussion with all managers (including the ones from the main tour to avoid all the quali managers just trying to get themselves to autoqualify). This situation shouldn’t be solved with a 2012-ruling where a lot of people on this forum didn’t even have their first pubes yet.

Also don’t even get me started about the fact there are act wins. This needs to be adressed for next edition.

Tl;dr: Out of all possible solutions I think you picked the worst one. I’d totally understand if there are teams boycotting this one. Then it’d make the farce complete.

It’s time for 24 team WCoP.

The level of competition has clearly gone up, and the demographics of this website have changed. There are no more broken regions. Let all of these equally strong teams play instead of arbitrarily deciding based on a tiebreak format that will honestly be suboptimal no matter what you do.

Hypothetically, if after these 2 weeks every team finishes 2-2, are you guys gonna run this again for 2 more weeks? Everyone will be super exhausted. So realistically I don't think you will, and will probably have to take Luigi's proposal for 24 teams in the main stage. So my question is, why not just do it now instead of potentially wasting all this time?

kind of sickening to see argentinians taking the piss out of their own player when 6 others of you guys also lost.
putting down one of your own who obviously is isn't taking this shower of hate in a nice way is disrespectful to the dedication he has put into your team over the last 3 weeks some of you got egos over 2 wins when enzo has more wins than you have games played.
be ashamed

Okay but I've heard some people giving the argument of "random whos will enter my tournament main event?!?!?"

Just expand the amount of people that drop from main event to qualifiers this year, so that, by next World cup, status Quo is back in place.

"This will become a precedent"

you don't have to make this a feature, because realistically the chances of something like this happening again next year are low, because of the pool of teams falling down + players and teams becoming stronger down the line and LU chances too

I mean, I'm bad at math everyone knows this already, but to me the math is mathing

Also it’s just straight up gatekeeping if that’s the argument. Those “random who’s” played an important part for their team’s success. At least big enough to be considered for a spot.

Every single 12-8 team has proven themselves

I really enjoy reading non arg people defending nana. Be assured that he really needs the beating he's getting so he can recover faster from losing like that. He might be a coloradomufa, but he's our coloradomufa and we love him. MOMAZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS #24TeamWCoP

Watching the way qualifying teams have to play basically two exaustive team tournaments just feels weird and unfair at this point LOL. TDs, the community is bigger than ever and some tours gotta accomodate it, as simple as it sounds, does it not make sense to all of you? Like being very honest, some of you never did play a single team tournament to start with, but you dont need to have so much empathy to realize that its all about having a fun and healthy experience, and unfortunately you all are not helping as you wanted to. Using a precedent of back to when the tour was still getting developed is also not optimal, as the scenario is not the same and we got literally double the amount of people involved.

Btw, its hard and heartbreaking to bring it up when you guys are obviously hardworking af and some decisions arent obviously tooo easy to make, but the less energy you and the people spend the better. I hope we arent waiting for a 40 signups WCOP to realize that an at least 24 main stage is by far the optimal way to go from this point onwards. Everyone noticed how the qualifiers level is higher, i would not ignore the way that UK and Spain struggled to be on top while having so many proved players.

Its still in time to make the right decision!

Round 1 Tiebreaker

    • The team with the highest number of wins overall, if there is no tie, will move straight to pools while the remaining 4 participate in Qualifying Round 2 - play-ins.
    • If two teams tie for first seed in the round robin, they'll play their own 3v3 to determine who moves straight to pools, and the remaining 4 teams will go to play-ins.
    • If three teams tie, we prepare for a live reset on Sunday at a to-be-announced-later time where teams will continue playing until the tiebreak is resolved. Substitutes would be allowed, but we will keep going until one of the teams wins 2-0. This team advances immediately to pools while the other two participate in play-ins with the two non-live RR teams.
    • If all five teams tie, we prepare for a live reset on Sunday at a to be announced later time where teams will continue playing until the tiebreak is resolved. Like 2012, substitutes would be allowed, but we will keep going until one of the above scenarios is achieved.
