Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
now it may be sad i didn't get drafted. But what's sadder is my threat was real. big tony 2014 legs will be smacked with a crowbar until he gives up mons.
Good luck everyone o7 I'm super excited to watch this year, absolutely killer draft that I know is going to lead to some fantastic games.
For full transparency, if you're going to come to me for AAA games during the length of the tour, I am not going to be offering advice or thoughts on whatever it is you bring. My mouth is sealed, I am a neutral party, it is up to you to determine the strengths/weaknesses of a team based on the results of our game. If you ask me to bring specific mons/sets or elaborate on something on my own team to give you information, sure, but no opinions or criticism.
I'm very happy to provide tests and lurk in your teamcords to be pinged for matches/tests, ideally without access to the metagame channels themselves, but for the sake of neutrality you are going to be bouncing ideas off of a brick wall :^)
BOINGK'S OMPL XIII POWER RANKINGS
I'm meant to be revising for my final tomorrow but I cannot focus so instead I will write 100% unbiased PRs (so I can see how wrong I am at the end of the season :D)
I'll start by discussing each team individually and then ranking them at the end
Neither redflix nor osake opted to selfbuy themselves and so ended up with the maximal budget of 100k, allowing them to grab a few higher end purchases. Icemaster at 16k feels like a bargain for starters, especially given the strength of his support. The Zeraoras have an incredibly strong Mix and Mega slot, with redflix providing ample support to Icemaster (a great MnM player in his own right) and whoever else chooses to click in this slot. BH also looks very strong, with quojova a safe pair of hands in the slot with decent support in rightclicker. Finally, GG is strong enough in the builder department with Fraise holding down the fort, although he might have a bit of catching up to do having not participated in the most recent GG open.
Zeraoras also have one of the best PiC players in the pool in Zoe, as well as a proven STAB player in kaif. AAA is an interesting proposal for the Zeraoras - Lana is a great player but isn't the strongest builder, and Siamato is going to have to get up to speed with recent trends in the metagame if he is to shine as a support in this slot, so on the face of things this could be seen as one of Zeraoras' weaker slots - but there is no doubt potential for them to pop off.
Overall a very strong draft, perhaps needed one or two more clickers to make this truly terrifying to come up against.
Once again, neither box nor chess elected to selfbuy and thus had the maximal budget of 100k, and holy fuck their strategy worked because the Dialgas have a monster of a draft here. All of the slots are incredibly strong and I won't be surprised if they go the full distance. The most important note here is that dfm, who is excellent in AAA, was strapped into the PiC slot last year. The presence of Fangame10 and Aldrich (both very good doubles players) on this team means that the Dialgas can choose to start dfm elsewhere, giving both slots a lot more flexibility and potency. Notably strong in this draft are the AAA, BH, and MnM slots. A potential variable with how well this team performs is the Bo3 slot, which will likely have Clas starting. They are an excellent player and builder but have been subject to fluctuations in performance in the past. This is probably the slot to watch for this team as it will probably make the difference between an excellent season and a truly dominant season.
Dazzling Diancies TTTech, Kinetic, yuki, Wheaty, abriel, zastra, The Guy Who Has Many Alts, seth, Mada, LBN, Tempo di anguria
The Diancies have probably the most top-heavy draft of the tournament, with the first half of their draft costing them 81k, leaving them with little money for the latter half of the draft. With that being said however, it feels like money well spent. TTTech is an excellent buy and is probably one of the best Bo3 players around. Kinetic had an absolute stormer of a season last year and is probably setup for success here again. Yuki is (biased opinion) the best PiC player in the pool. Abriel and zastra are both proven and experienced players who will go neutral at least.
There are a few variables at play here for the Diancies. This is Wheaty's first OMPL so there will be a few eyes on him - in spite of this I think he is an excellent player, and backed by TTTech and hallward I am confident he will at least go positive. The other variable here is GG - TTTech knows the tier very well and kenn is an excellent support but it's certainly one of the Diancies' weaker slots. But a few wins in this slot over the course of the tournament will probably be enough to get them into playoffs and beyond.
Gholden Witches QT*, akira 153*, Atha, Career Ended, pyu, Les2BG, Starshine., Baddy, TKYSZL, GhastlyPixie, One Last Kiss, SeaLife, RL, Irene
The Gholds have a good draft, featuring two extremely strong self-bought managers who can cover a lot of slots. The Gholds have probably one of the best AAA players in the pool in Atha backed up by the excellent pyu. Their MnM slot is also incredibly strong, with Career supported by QT. BH and STAB are other standout slots here, and GG is decently strong with Les2BG in the builder department. The Gholds unfortunately are let down a little bit in the PiC department: SeaLife is a good doubles player but as a starter they are going to struggle to matchup as a starter against the rest of the pool. Barring this, every other slot is strong to excellent, so the Gholds have ghood odds at making playoffs.
The Commanders have a good draft, although not quite a commanding one. HiZo always selfbuys here and is probably going to have a great season once again. cityscapes is an excellent BH player and will likewise have an excellent season. From here the draft becomes a little strange - in a good way. The Commanders have overloaded their STAB slot with great players (RoFnA, Fc, Clem, maybca) and there is a similar story for Bo3 (RoFnA, damflame) and GG (dp3, RoFnA, Fc, maybca). This gives them so much flexibility in these slots and will likely keep rival teams guessing as to what lineups and teams are going to look like. I think however that the MnM slots and AAA slots are a little sparser than I would like. I think AAA is going to be an issue in particular given that their options in this slot are good but less experienced (bird, iride) or would probably rather be starting elsewhere (RoFnA, maybca), and AAA is probably the one slot you don't want to have an issue with this year given it counts for double.
The Takers return this year with a simply spectacular draft. Ivar and sammy being able to selfbuy for 13.5k each is arguably a crime, given they are two of the best OM players around. But with their draft they are able to cover every other slot to an extremely strong extent. Perhaps the only variable then is Godly Gift, as there is a slight question as to who starts here and how well can they click. Ivar and Sammy support is present in this slot but it isn't as strong as other slots. However, everything else on this draft more than makes up for it, and I expect the Heart Takers to go the full distance.
W Virizzions fififlutters*, pannu, NovaFish21, shiloh, Betticus IV, Fusien, matte, cscl, tkhanh, emoxu9, Quinn, teamo, Pomellow
The other returning franchise in the auction. Pannu is the second most expensive player in the auction and for good reason - this gives the Virizzions access to one of the strongest Bo3 players at the moment, and gives them the best GG slot, with players like cscl, Fusien and Quinn able to click whatever pannu and grey cook in the kitchen. fiora is also incredibly strong and also has the option to play quite a few tiers, although she will likely go into BH unless teamo or Pomellow are feeling particularly gutsy. With shiloh and betticus backed up by matte, the team features a very good AAA core, and the PiC slot is also good with the presence of tkhanh and NovaFish21. GG and Bo3 are the Virizzions stand out slots, and every other slot is quite good, so they are probably setup for a pretty good season.
Pink Ponyta Club Lily, Glory, Chromate, Slither Wing, xdRudi.exe, Ballfire, jasprose, Mindnight, willdbeast, db, feen, about15gals, violet river
Last, but not least, we have the Ponies. This managerial pair have returned to defend their trophy from last year, and they lay pretty good claim to the title again this year. The Ponies have incredible builder strength in just about every slot, with only really BH being a weakpoint. Their likely starters are also incredibly strong players in their own rights. There are a few variables to the Ponies' season. The first is BH, with the Ponies evidently having a weaker slot. They have taken a gamble on Ballfire, who is a PH mainer to my knowledge, but with Will as support they can certainly take a few games, and that is probably enough. The other more pressing question, however, is who gets sent to the Bo3 slot - at the moment there isn't a clear answer, and that might break the Ponies' season.

Here we go!
Personal Power Rankings yay lets do some cause why not, hopefully this'll get others to join in cause even if they suck it's fun to read atleast, not that mine suck though this is 100% factual and based on extensive research (vibes).
Mix and Mega:
1. Gholden Witches
Starting at the top, we have what I'd consider an insanely cracked team regarding MnM, Career is a great player, and despite the fact that they haven't played much recently I don't doubt that they're able to pick up on the metagame in no time, and with support from both QT, who's arguably the best MnM player as well as TKYSZL, who despite not having too much exposure in tours is still a very capable player. With such a power slot I'd be surprised to see this team go negative here.
2. Heart Takers
Despite the fact that I don't think I've ever seen a Hayedenn team that hasn't questioned everything I know about MnM their results do speak for themselves, and with how much hidden jank this tier has I'm excited to see if they'll pull up with some crazy shit. This alone is probably not worth the #2 spot but unfortunately someone let Sammy & Ivar be in the same team and since those bastards play literally every tier they'll be able to provide support if necessary and also maybe sanity check some of hayedenns builds.
3. Crazy Diamond Dialgas
Dialgas has a very solid core of Placuszek, SpaceSpeakers & Clas, and I think Placuszek especially is a very good player who also knows the meta well. SpaceSpeakers is sadly very washed but they're not the one playing so their support is valuable nonetheless, and with Clas in Bo3 they'll naturally be building MnM as well so it kinda ties it together. Overall a very scary trio.
4. Dazzling Diancies
Thank fuck that TTTech learned MnM cause how the hell would Diancies survive with just zastra LMAO. Jokes aside, Zastra is a good player who also happens to be very self-sufficient, although they tend to lean more into using the same style of teams so hopefully they bring some heat this year and prove me wrong (no, regular gliscor is NOT heat it's ass). With TTTech fresh out of an Open win they've also proved to be a competent player so they'll be able to be of great support as well.
5. W Virizzions
Now before you pick up those pitchforks and torches... I'm only rating Virizzions this low cause I have quite literally never seen emoxu9 play a single game. I'm a bit surprised to not see Pomellow starting considering they've proven themself over recent times but maybe I'll see them later this season (I really hope for this actually pomellow is my goat), but with them and Fififlutters cooking I don't doubt the quality of the teams that will be brought. If it turns out that emoxu9 is cracked then that'll be a pleasant surprise, but as for now it's hard for me to make an educated guess.
6. Zoomer Zeraoras
Unfortunately Redflix decided to not selfbuy which means that another top contender for best MnM player is benched, and since I have more or less no idea how good tectonic is it's hard for me to rate them too high, even if flix support is valuable. I know tectonic played a lot in gen7 so the fundamentals are there but I have no idea how in touch they are with the current meta or even generation.
7. Commanders
(Yes it's ballsy to put the team I'm facing this week at the bottom and if I lose this is gonna be hella awkward lol) but with essentially no main in here it's hard to rate them higher. RoFna as a player is very good and they have played MnM but they don't play it that much so I have my doubts. Axzel is in the same spot as tectonic, aka I know they used to play but I have no fucking idea how much they know about current gen/current meta.
If you think any of these rankings are wrong/invalid, first off, no lol. But also drop your own then and prove that your list is much better, you can even put me at the bottom for comedic effect! Or if you think I'm washed... :(
If you disagree, too bad, but I would be glad to be proven wrong ! You can make fun of me at the end of the season (or at the beginning) but at least I'm playing the game of doing personal PRs & predictions, so if you think my PR is shit make your own so we'll see who was more wrong and make fun of each other bc at the end of the day, those are pre-week 1 predicts so obviously I can't see the future :)
This should not surprise everyone, but they're by far the most threatening team before the start of the tour. Ivar + Sammy are basically able to help and support every tier to a very high level, they're both unemployed so they have even more time (whereas my co went to the hospital so now I'm alone gg Redflix you're so bad, last time it was police station too). 26k for both of them is pretty good, even though Ivar still has to prove that they're still on the top of OMs and Sammy that he can do better than his last year record, but both of them should at least go 4-3 and have the ability to go 6-1 or more. You can add to that excellent players in hayedenn, ghostlike, Frixel, Sylvi, good clickers like Stareal and entrocefalo that should do well with the amount of support they got, and you have a very threatening team that has almost no weaknesses in their line-up and should reach play-offs with ease. I wouldn't put them as my favorite to win it all because in key situations I feel like they might lack SUPER reliable players that will get the win no matter what (it would be down to the managers but as for now, they still have to prove that they have the shoulders for that). Only downside is they have ojr and this guy might solo run down this team bc of how bad he is
#2 Gholden Witches
QT, Akira 153, Atha, Career Ended, Pyu, Les2BG, Starshine., Baddy, TKYSZL, GhastlyPixie, One Last Kiss, SeaLife, RL, Irene
prob #2 pair of managers playing/building wise after Heart Takers, and while double managers buy does not do well often I think we have to pay respect to their strength, even though I would not make them my favorites for the final win either, I still expect them to be at the top of the regular season. I rank them #2 because both QT and Akira might disappoint a bit and aren't as consistent as Ivar and Sammy has been overall, but they got two super solid players in atha and Career Ended (if they're motivated enough, which I think they'll be for the dedicated tier they play) that are at the top of their pool. Rest of the draft is a bit of a gamble with lots of decent subs that can help for 1-2 week but aren't really on a starter level (OLK, RL..), GG is a bit weird since Starshine is starting despite Les2BG being there too, so maybe Starshine is a very good clicker but idk them so we'll see. I'm curious to see how Pyu will perform, they've been active on the last year and I have high hopes on them. Their PiC slot seems the worst to me, and I was about to rank them #3 for that, but GhastlyPixie with practically no support won against Frixel who's a good PiC player to my eyes, so it might not be as dire as I thought
This is one of the most balanced drafts of the tour I think with almost no weak slot but no top players that can go 6-1 (I mean we can always have a surprise but yk what I mean). I feel like they're just good enough in every slots, and while some of them might flop a bit (is O1V able to prove that they're a top contender in AAA pool ? is word still the stab goat ? does placu still play the game ?), most likely some of them will also perform very well and I expect to tie / wins most of their weeks just bc of that. They also have decent subs in aerobee/ MZ / betathunder (if beta cares enough to play, I thought they were only a randbat player now), so overall a very solid team. However, in a play-offs situation, I think their lack of individuals who can clutch wins might cost them the win, especially in a tie break situation where I think they're one of the weakest teams
#4 Dazzling Diancies
TTTech, Kinetic, yuki, Wheaty, abriel, zastra, The Guy Who Has Many Alts, seth, Mada, LBN, Tempo di anguria, baaaaaat
Just like Dialgas, Diancies are a very balanced team (that's often what happens with no managers' self buy :p), with more top players (yuki/TTTech) but also slots that might be weaker (AAA #2, GG). Overall still, most of the players should perform well, I honestly expect Kinetic to make again their amazing AAAPL's performance (well maybe not a perfect record but at least a solid 5-2), I've been hyped by BH players selling Wheaty so I hope they don't flop lol, abriel and zastra are good players that should go around even, so yeah just a good all around team, just ranking them a bit under because 2 slots that seem weaker and TTTech is a bit of a gamble, they can both go 6-1 and 2-5 if things go wrong. However, if I had to bet on who would win the whole tour, I'd put a quarter on Diancies bc I feel like they're a team that can really get stronger throughout the season and reach their final form in play-offs and stomp everyone
Virizzions are super hard to rank because they have too many slots I'm just unsure of. Like shiloh in AAA, pannu and GG, and fiora in bo3 is obviously solid af (although we'll have to see if shiloh is top 3 of the pool like Ren claims every year, but with fiora's support it might very well be true) but then from what I've heard NovaFish is a very good clicker but maybe not as builder, Quinn and emoxu9 are just ppl I don't know so maybe there are hidden gems found by managers (which is likely cuz I think Greybaum has a very good knowledge of the players pool) but they might as well run down their team, and their subs are of the same caliber (aka idk them and maybe they're the goat but until proven wrong they're not). Matte in AAA#2 is an interesting bet as I said in my predicts and I would be glad if proven wrong but so far I don't rate them as high in game as most of the players in the pool (and idk if betticus will want to play), and Fusien in stab is once again a gamble, maybe their clicking skills will be enough and maybe not, so like how tf am I supposed to rank a team where half of the starters aren't known OM players but can perform well ? ranking them #5 bc even if their new players don't perform too well, they have top players who will carry the team if needed
If I had to make a bet on which teams would qualify or not (cuz we're here for entertainment anyway, do predicts and get owned), I would say that any team above has play-offs potential, and the 2 teams left are the ones I expect the most to not qualify. I feel like despite having two really strong players that will go positive and are able to get clutch wins in cityscapes and Fc, most of their roster is very very unproven and while they all have the potential to do well, they would need 2-3 players to do well to be able to reach play-offs which will be hard to do I think. My french friends damflame and Clem are both good players by themselves but they have a pretty bad historic in OMPL, so I hope it'll be the year they prove they're good but it might be another 1-4 clem season.. at least he got Fc's support in stab so maybe it was all he needed ! HiZo is kind of in the same spot, they did really well last year but I wonder if they'll be able to recreate this performance with more pressure on their shoulders and in a PiC pool still very stacked (at least for the top 4/5). RoFnA is a mystery, he stomped last OMPL but has been mostly afk since then and that's just another gamble for the Commanders. Thing is, after those 6 players (and 3/4 of them can fall off pretty quickly), their draft seems to lack good substitutes. Taka and crow crumbs are fine subs but they need support, their AAA slot is really dire, Maybca can provide decent support but they haven't been too active in OMs lately and I think they have exams soon so I wonder how much they will be active, Axzel is pretty much in the same spot than RoFnA, DP333 is fine but I don't expect them to start more than 2 weeks, and I have no idea who Iride is (they start in AAA so maybe they are the new AAA goat). A team that should not be underestimated and they can beat anyone, but in the long turn I think they'll just lack consistency and if damflame / clem / hizo get into a losing streak, I'm not sure they'll be able to recover from it
This is to me the weakest team of the tour by a fair margin. We're here to make predicts and power rankings so obviously when they'll 8-0 the finals I'll be clowned (esp since most of the finalists of last editions were ranked in bottom 2 lol, and Evie + cat already won last year so I'm probably just stupid), but just like Commanders I feel like they only got 2 top players in Chromate and Lily, you could probably count xdRudi.exe in but stab is so fishy that I expect them to get a 3-4 or a 4-3 record, which is fine but not enough to carry your team. Barring those 3 players, we can count Slither Wing as a good player but same I don't expect them to go stellar and they can very well fell off, and Glory is a big mystery. 16K on them is definitely a lot and while they're a very good builder, they still lack major performances, going 0-2 last year and losing at r4 of the open I think. This is a huge gamble, and even if it works, the rest of the draft seems poor to me. You lack a lot of support as most of the subs seem to be clickers / only play one meta, managers aren't able to support many metas either, so I'm not sure how they'll support the clickers thrown in tiers they don't know at all (feen in AAA should be alright if they learn the meta quickly w/ Glory's support, Ballfire is rly alone in BH, Mindnight in bo3 is just a joke honestly like just a sacrifice) and most of the subs don't seem to be able to take care of one of those slots if the starter flops. For all of those reasons I do not expect them to perform well and I would be REALLY surprised if they make it to the play-offs, but let's see !
