Tournament UUCL I - Commencement

Hoping to get picked for this, format looks fun and I now have a second tier I can play which is probably good for this format. I can SV and ADV so if managers are looking for someone in those tiers, I'm active so I can play and test in both. Overall I'm a bit more confident in building SV but I can build ADV as long as someone is available to help me test so i can iron out problems. In any case, lookin forward to the draft!

LAZY MANAGER'S GUIDE TO DRAFTING RBY (UUCL EDITION)

Tier 1: The Mainerssssssssssssssssssss
  • Sabelette: probably the best rby clicker in the pool and has played in a gorillion rby tournaments and has won like half of them. sometimes she gets extremely tilted and that affects her performance but like if you had to play this much rby you'd probably hate the game too
  • Melbelle: also very good at the game and has a lot of strong uu performances but if you draft her there is a solid chance that she leaves the teamcord half-way through the tournament but like thats ok she'll still go positive
  • Maris Bonibell: if you value prep a lot you should definitely get her. i've heard rumours of overprepping but like that surely cant be a real thing. she has a lot to prove and you can definitely expect her to try
    Wanted in 49 States: literally just won an rby uu tournament has a really funny name lol
  • hammer798: ok i don't really have anything quippy to say here but hammer is good and he starting winning in rby very quickly. this guy knows how to click
Tier 2: Good Players Who Probably Don't Want to Play RBY But Could Realistically Go Positive
  • violet river: river i'd like to formally apologizing for cancering in uufpl and forcing you to play rby that was really cringe of me. but this girl has like, ACTUALLY played rby uu and knows ball. if she's busy winning in classic just send her here because you really don't need to think much to win in rby

  • magialice: she seems very happy that wrap got banned but i think you'd want to put her in bw most of the time unless u got like 2x rby and a better bw and idk how realistic that is
  • Tree69420: actually a former rby uu goat but he'd actually kill you if you put him in rby. he's actually really good at sv but i don't think i need to convince anyone reading this of that
  • kjdaas: not very up-to-date on the latest rby trends and that can lead to her playing kind of predictably but if she locks in she can be a serious contender
Tier 3: RBY2 Slots
  • pac: 15-27 overall in rby uu team tournaments and was anti-wrap ban. interpret that however you want.
  • TG2513: very nice but they play very impatiently sometimes and loses for it. if you get them force them to install that browser extension that forces you to wait like 15 seconds
  • ButtGallon: this guy is fucking awesome and i got him for nufl bc i thought he was cool but he's still very inexperienced and won't play as optimally as a lot of other people in this tournament
  • THE_CHUNGLER: chungler's strategy is to roll the dice and pray that it works, even if it's not the optimal play. and while it's worked for him pretty well in rby it'll definitely bite him in the ass sometimes
  • Soda_Eesti: very enthusiastic but i just haven't really been a fan of her clicks ever
  • Theycallmephil: same as above
  • Teh: i'll stop prepping at around week 4 and if i hate my team bc im annoying its probably like week 2. im not even that good at the game but people still draft me and i somehow end up going positive with insane rnghax. if you draft me please draft me with my friends i would appreciate that a lot

nah he seems a bit washed imo. lost r1 of the recent spotlight tour and made UU open semis in a whole lot of games like this:

Jokes aside, I think Teh's list is accurate outside of their self-downplay— but I haven't seen pac or anyone in T2 play, so I can't speak to them. Everyone in T1 is an easy pick for a starter, and I think anyone in T3 would be an underdog in matchups against anyone from T1

yeah i was gonna make a post like this but i was thinking of waiting fucking more than 3 days for more signups but fuck it ill write my post too and have 2 posts for managers to use instead of 1


Good RBYs to grab for your draft

Hiya, I'd like to contribute toward managers for their RBY draft and give managers a somewhat more informed opinion beyond record and use my insight from knowing a number of these people personally and watching a lot of the uu tour games across 2025 and 2024

Tier 1: Smoke Estrogen

Melbelle & Maris Bonibell (best names in the pool?)
We came up with our names independently and before we met each other, if you can believe it. What else do we have in common? A 6-1 during UUFPL regular season this year. Melbelle is the person in this pool I expect to have the best grasp of building this tier as she is often writing insightful posts in the forums and discord around the effects of pokemon legality changes of this tier. She is the builder to beat in this pool and this is valuable for a version of this tier that just came into being, and her play in-game should be good to boot. Despite it she seems to be not well known outside of RBY and it would be a ridiculous snub not to get her.
Meanwhile I've won 30 dollars off of an individual, but i also seem able to win games during UU teamtours without any money on the line: possibly a positive? I also went 6-1 during ALTPL. I think its about equally worthwhile to get either one of us for your team but ill probably write a gorillion things in my prep channel even if im the only one talking there, if you like opening a channel to like 100 message notifications

Sabelette (self glazer, half warranted)
Frankly this user doesnt need the shoutout post, you almost certainly know who she is from her involvement in attempting to integrate RBY into the rest of smogon which is very appreciated. She is a good builder (again, very valuable for a new version of this tier) and certainly no slack in the prep department, but I give the up to Melbelle on mogging the entire rest of us on investment alone. Her play in-game should be cool to watch on the first weeks for sure, though if she has a bad record start to this tour it's likely she will low effort the rest, which granted , unless she gets matched into the two users above and then gets unlucky isnt too likely to happen. Frankly, its very possible that any of the 3 people i mentioned here go x-1, maybe x-0 , depending on motivation, clicks and of course, luck

Tier 2 (solid picks)

Wanted in 49 States (the 50th state is iowa)

He was actually a helper for another rby slot during the past UUFPL and had a good run in the aforementioned 30 dollar tournament, and also won an individual recently. He has certainly improved in his RBY tour performances a lot as of late, and i do hope the changes to the tier feed his motivation even further. I do trust him to build good teams for this tier, his clicks in-game being where he is weaker. Wanted I'm gonna keep clicking Hydro Pump and you cant stop me

ButtGallon (luck chart guy)

ButtGallon was very active during the RBY UU ladder spotlight and actually kicked my ass recently during an individual. As far as im aware this would be his first debut for a UU teamtour if he starts , and his recent run in the NUFL tour certainly speaks to his potential here

hammer798( cool music taste)

much like Buttgallon and Wanted in 49 states, this would be hammer's debut for a UU teamtour if they start. They've been playing well in other rby lowers as of late and he may even win an rby individual as of me writing this, find out next week

violet river (amongusOCE)

She put tiers other than RBY in her signup and im certain she would enjoy playing them a lot more: River isnt very fond of the kind of rng present in RBY and frankly that's understandable, but being able to engage with the tier past that is the single most important thing i value for people who are not mainers. Nonetheless, she did perform well in her brief run with UUFPL 2024 and her clicks should be fundamentally good, with maybe a few hiccups from not playing RBY a lot, and worst case she can play the other 2 tiers in her signup much better

magialice (green)
Again, magialice put BW in her signup alongside RBY and she would do well in the former, but she does seem to enjoy this iteration of UU a lot and had a similarly deep run in the 30 dollar tournament. I value motivation to engage with a tier on its own merits a lot and magialice definitely has that investment. magialice did struggle a lot during UUFPL and her clicks in-game do need work, but this is something a good # of friendlies and feedback from others can fix; definitely within her abilities. Worst case, she can be slotted into BW if really needed
Tree69420 (absolute cinema)
He didnt put RBY in his signup. Why did Teh mention him? I'm pretty sure Tree said something about quitting rby lowtiers at the start of 2025, but he should be able to play the tier good if you need him during tiebreaker or something, he's played well in prior iterations and you know he has the asshole reads in him to clutch up. Honestly might be broken as an RBY2 if he's willing to play

THE_CHUNGLER ( THE GRUNGLER)

Chungler is part of a few new faces diving into RBY from other generations, already having some nice results in the other RBY lowers. I think his risk-reward assessment of some clicks needs work as perfectly sensible clicks for other generations do not always make sense in RBY, but again, a level of honest good faith engagement from him with the generation as a whole , which is rare to see from non-mainers. And again, worst case, he can play other generations too. We call it "the Chungling" when he defeats someone in a tournament, please let him win just so this can be said

Tier 3

Theycallmephil( hello gsc slam teammate)
her performance in this year's UUFPL couldve been better, but she does seem motivated to play this tier, though i do think a number of friendlies and replay review would go a long way toward improving her clicks in-game.

This guy unironically hasnt played this tier in like a year and tbh i dont disagree with his own placement at all, not just because of the year hiatus from RBY UU but the long break from playing mons in general. At the very least, his building should be ok and he is an RBYer(slur)
pac(is bac?)
despite being a rather consistent presence for these rby uu teamtours his results have leaned toward middling and his level of play in-game is inconsistent. i have seen pac play very well but whether that's the level we'll see in this tour remains to be seen, especially after a period of inactivity.

As mentioned above by Teh, force this guy to play with timer mod extension and he'll cut it as an rby2, for sure. Frankly with a bit more work on his play in-game id put him on tier 2

He actually signed up for RBY a few hours before i wrote this post so ill shout him out here, he hasnt played RBY UU in a long time but has played more than enough RBY in other tiers that I'd consider him familiar with it. His building for RBY tiers leans on the unrestrained , which may lead to some cookery if looked over by someone else, but extremely fishy otherwise

gastlies did not sign up for UUCL at all and she would not sign up for RBY, but she will likely ask to join the teamcord of one of the players in tier 2, most likely Wanted in 49 states. Her contributions would amount to 90% shitposting and 10% use Dodrio and Clefable. I know this from firsthand experience.

Nonetheless, i hope this provides a bit of insight for the managers here. The pool is clearly a bit dry at the very top but there are a lot of hungry RBYers signing up to debut for this tour and id rather them all be looked at than not. I was lucky to get to start in UUFPL 2024 despite having no results and would like for it to be less stressful for others

If I didnt mention you in my post

1) you didnt sign up for UUCL (yet?)
2) I consider you as a way better option in other tiers than RBY and havent seen you play much of it at all
3) you're currently banned
 
If you're confident I don't know who you are, and you're confident that you're good enough to be drafted in this tour, then add me and Taka to a group Smogon Direct Message with:

1) A paragraph on why YOU THINK we should draft you
2) What tiers you are REALLY willing to play if they differ from your sign up
3) And times you're available for 1 try-out game per tier

There's no harm in reaching out, only harm in not!
 
Washed and long-retired uu-er here with two recommendations of people I think deserve to be drafted:

Frailty Shes played for me in 3 tours and gone positive in all of them. Solid clicker you can put anywhere, scheduling heart attacks guaranteed but will probably like 5-2 if you can deal with that

ThundergamesPT2 Would have got him in fpl if I had an extra 3k, he still stuck around in our cord and was a really good and involved presence the whole way through. Never watched one of his games in my life but he plays weird wcops for portugal so he is probably versatile and at least passable

And obviously I don't have to tell anyone to get Maris Bonibell but whoever gets her make sure the rest of your team is sheist too because it would be beyond criminal for her to have a third consecutive 6-1 main season into missing playoffs
