*turns you into a pokemon*

I’m bored and I don’t feel like going to be right now if I don’t have to get up early tomorrow so let’s play a fun game. I’m going to take you guys and turn you into genuine attempts at making competitive Pokémon sets.

For example.

:dp/pichu:

bdt2002 (Pichu) (M) @ Metronome
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder Shock (note: I would prefer Nuzzle but it didn’t exist yet)
- Charm
- Follow Me
- Teeter Dance

This was the best I could come up with for me and my profile picture. Admittedly I have no clue how I was supposed to make this work, but the biggest issue is that there is a strong lack of musical held items in these games.

MAKE THE UKULELE A HELD ITEM YOU F***ING COWARDS-

gm, i'm interested in what you would make of this

:sv/banette:

Dead By Daylight (Banette) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Frisk
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
- Swords Dance
- Trick Room
- Astonish
- Sucker Punch

Your username and the nature of the game that shares its name inspired me to try and create a set that was a combination of tactical and quickly threatening. Scarlet & Violet’s ZU metagame does have some Ghost-Types available to use but this set feels distinctly Banette if that makes sense, trying to make use of Swords Dance and Trick Room alongside a cunning main STAB in Tera Ghost boosted Astonish, which gets buffed to 60 base power before STAB and has a 30% flinch rate for Banette’s victims to deal with. Colbur Berry is included as the held item to try and help against potential Dark-Type counterplay offensively, and Sucker Punch rounds out the set to help in situations where Trick Room might not be able to be set up and because of Dark’s decent neutral coverage when paired with Ghost’s lack of resists.

This set may be able to function as a potential win condition on certain offensive speed control teams or as a backline wall breaker against stall teams with Swords Dance boosted Astonish and any different move choices you prefer. Teammates to help against any popular Dark-Types in ZU are highly recommended for use alongside this Banette, specifically any that may share common checks with Banette that the two can team up against as needed in different battles.

The EVs and nature were chosen to best compliment Banette’s moveset and because I couldn’t resist giving a Pokémon with this nickname the Brave nature, lol. (It sounded funnier in my head.) I chose ZU because I may or may not have stalked your profile for a bit trying to find something that might catch your interest, and it said you had recent post history in lower tiers and for ZU. Sorryyyyyy

couldn't have crafted it better myself!

...wait

Considering how much I like thought experiments about porting things to other sets of game mechanics, why not? Let's see what you got for me.

Sorry for the delay, everyone. It took me a little while to figure out what I wanted to make for some of these.

This is funny. If anyone's motivated I'd like to know how I'd be like.

:ss/wooloo:

Eledyr (Wooloo) @ Eviolite
Ability: Fluffy
Level: 5
EVs: 180 HP / 116 Atk / 156 SpD / 56 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Facade
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Wooloo unfortunately doesn’t have much to work with- Body Press on this thing would go hard but sadly it doesn’t learn that- but Fluffy and Eviolite can both help its defensive stats in Gen 8 Little Cup, the only official tier where this thing can realistically be used. Incidentally, Wooloo doesn’t have a sample set for that metagame, but I was eventually able to come up with this mono-Normal RestTalk variant that attempts to blend favorable Sleep Talk rolls with a balanced defensive stat spread as opposed to the totally physically bulky spread you might have expected to see here. Sleep Talk (or in its case, Comatose) into STAB Facade is a neat piece of tech I stole from Komala that has to be built around but can make more progress than you might think once your opponent’s Normal resist(s) are out of the way.

we dont know each other so this'll be interesting maybe

:sv/umbreon:

Uppa (Umbreon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Assurance
- Toxic
- Protect

Wait a second. When did this thing lose access to Payback!? Curse + Payback is a lowkey killer set in Gen 4. Oh, well. This took me a while to figure out how I wanted to build a set for your favorite Pokémon as mentioned in another thread that also fit the theme of that particular post. This defensive utility set is what I came up with. Curse + Assurance is the attack you’ll be using, but the real threat comes with the combo of Tera Poison, Toxic, and Protect, which serves three purposes in one as Umbreon’s best defensive Tera Type by far, boosting Toxic to perfect accuracy, and eliminating opposing Toxic as a possible check and Synchronize activator. The goal with this set is to punish your opponent’s reads. Status moves (specifically ones that cause status conditions) are risky with Synchronize, but if they attack you head-on they risk eating a double powered Assurance instead.

Here’s some more of these that I was able to come up with as I was working on the previous two. If you guys couldn’t tell, I’m going to be tackling these in the order your messages are posted, like a sort of “waiting in line” system.

I would like to participate in this exercise.

:sm/vulpix-alola:

Aurora (Vulpix-Alola) @ Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
Level: 5
Hidden Power: Ground
EVs: 52 HP / 200 SpA / 240 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aurora Veil
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Hidden Power [Ground]

This was the easiest one to come up with so far. This is literally just Alolan Vulpix’s sample set for Gen 7 Little Cup because bro was busy getting banned from Gen 8 Little Cup. I knew I wanted to use something from Little Cup and also with Aurora Veil as a move, and as it turns out my work was basically already done for me. To those not caught up with the Little Cup metagame’s history, the two Vulpix forms have largely been faster weather supports since the original form gained Drought back in Gen 5. Screens Hyper Offense can be devastating in these formats with enough practice and time in the builder, and Ice’s solid offensive coverage alongside Hidden Power Ground means Alolan Vulpix isn’t just a support piece and can deal some damage on its own, too. I really like Freeze-Dry in particular on more offensive teams that may struggle with the occasional Bulky Water.

pokemon mystery dungeon

i have heard the legends of the nidoran-f who slayed a hitmonchan yes

:ss/nidoran-f:

Mechalico (Nidoran-F) (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Poison Point
Level: 5
EVs: 60 Atk / 180 Def / 196 SpD / 28 Spe
Lax Nature
- Super Fang
- Toxic Spikes
- Poison Fang
- Ice Beam

Staying in Little Cup for the third time in four entries (which I’m perfectly fine with, I quite enjoy this), sometimes we think it’s important to get as many KOs as fast as possible in this format. That’s fine and all, Little Cup games can be fast, but it can still be hard to land those KOs without wearing down defensive walls first. Enter Mechalico Nidoran, an absolute wack-job of a set I crafted designed to cripple defensive cornerstones of Gen 8 Little Cup without actually KOing them directly. Koffing or Mareanie just absorb your Toxic Spikes? Have fun with the most absolutely free Super Fang you’ve ever seen in your life. This is specifically designed to make your opponent scratch their head in confusion wondering if this is just a bunch of poorly put together slop only to realize “Oh, the whole time it was a suicide lead turned breaker and now their win condition just switched in for free once Nidoran fainted.” This will pair best with win conditions, specifically sweepers that appreciate some of the more unique traits Nidoran-F has access to, especially since some of what this Pokemon offers that isn’t shown here cannot be replicated by the male one that gives it competition for a team slot.

Huh. No kidding. Sijih was right! Thanks! I appreciate it, really. This makes things a lot easier. :bellipog:

(For context, I didn't know the moderators could un-delete old threads. I deleted this one at some point when I was going through a pretty rough spell recently and had to take a short break from the Forums. I actually anticipated taking a noticeably longer break, but I'm doing better for now so I came back.)

Moveset creation will be resuming as scheduled starting in the morning since it's late tonight and I need to go to bed, lol. My next sets will be for Ironmage, BIG ASHLEY, as well as The Gungeon master as well as making one for Sijih as an expression of gratitude.
