Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

Plenty of cool stuff on the direct itself, and when it comes to ZA it surely does look nice on the Switch 2 (and I really enjoy the new human designs) but just one Mega, really? Even ORAS' announcement had more. Really feels like the crowning example of how extreme they have come from showing everything in Alola to barely showing anything.

I honestly have no issues with Mega Dragonite tho. It's exactly what people have wanted since forever, more Dragonair traits, and it's still goofy which is the most important aspect of Dragonite. If there is anything to be disappointed by, it's that it confirms the leaks are real.

I do find it funny they keep showing the bare minimum of Zygarde, hopefully it's a concious decision and it doesn't mean it will be as passive to the story as Arceus was in LA. Going from the Raidons to that would be such a downgrade.

Anyway I think it's neat Champions stat allocation is so blatant and offered in-game, and I wonder if maybe they might import that into the main series. Like as a post-game alternative to vitamins.

also so much for 2025 eh?

i feel like if anything its trapping that option in there me thinks? not that the main game will revert back to gen 3 days, just that we are most likely not getting anything more in terms of accessibility because champions IS the accessibility now. Maybe. I actually dont know anymore

"MIMI IS DEAD" CELS IN SHAMBLES

Champions having stat sliders is very nice! Something strange about the Gardevoir though- it appeared to have the equivalent of at least 516 EVs in total. When they show it max out Speed, it also has max Sp. Atk, but then 2 stat points (not EVs, the actual stat increasing by 2) allotted to Sp. Def, which should be impossible with max Sp.Atk and Speed. Did they change the EV cap?

Other neat touches that I appreciated are opponent HP bars displaying a percentage, and new descriptions for moves as "Extremely effective" and "Mostly ineffective" for x4 weaknesses and x4 resists. That's pretty handy and I can see these making their way into the Gen 10 games.

EDIT: Added Gardevoir stats screenshot from the official website. Its stats indicate it is Level 50 with all IVs set to 31.

By the way, is that Ralts giveaway the first indication that we have held items in Z-A? It's specified as "holding" Gardevoirite, rather than a "Ralts AND Gardevoirite"
I know folks kind of assumed as much, since it's Megas, but since Let's Go didn't have held items and still had Megas it's not like they needed to.

Shame there's seemingly still no abilities, but I guess abilities would require more readjustment to the new battle system.

Ye they'll probably have Mega Kangaskhan always attack twice in a row to mimic Parental Bond

66 "stat points" is weird too. Best guess is that this is a full replacement of EVs, since the current system of how EVs interact with base stats at levels below 100 mean that the same number of EVs don't always increase a stat by the same amount when natures come into play. Quick example, at Level 50 a base stat of 15 will increase by 1 point if given 4 EVs, while a base stat of 10 will not increase if given only 4 EVs. haha i messed this up whoops Confusing for a new player.

System might be incompatible with transferring back to mainline games?

I dunno, the system itself is streamlined but it still costs V Bucks to use, and it also costs V Bucks to do everything in game and I'm guessing those are more annoying to grind out.

it would make sense to me to have this type of system ported over to Gen 10 (or rather, this is a preview of Gen 10) and even if it costs PokeDollars or some item, it'll likely still be overall easier to just do there and still connects (mentally) between "oh doing it like this HERE, is just like it works THERE"

So I don't think anyone has made a list for this yet so thought I would.

I have a feeling you're right, that EVs are not actually used in Champions. Interesting what that could mean for using Pokémon from HOME. Will fully EV'd ones have near max stat allotment in Champions accordingly, or will they simply start fresh with 0 allotment?

Actually, the way EVs work at level 50 is that the first 4 EVs results in an increase of a stat by one point, and after that it's always 8 EVs for the next increase. That would actually result in an exactly 32 increments where a stat will increase which is consistent Champions showing 32 increments per stat.

However, because of that "4, then 8" quirk with EVs, the total number of these increments can vary. A 252/252/4 spread would have a total of 65 increments, while a 252/244/4/4/4 spread would be 66 increments.

I guess they wanted to simplify the system so they just give us a total of 66 stat points and instead EVs are replaced completely by these stat points. It's worth noting that levels were not visible in the footage so I assume they have quietly dropped the idea of levels in Champions and instead just treat everything as if it's level 50. This would solve all the issues with EVs behaving differently by different levels.

probably not, theyll just store the original data of the mon and any champion alterations will not be permanent in any way
sorry that's how I meant it - more that champions alterations won't be a way to ev train for mainline games

I was trying to figure out where I screwed up and realized it was because of the nature I had put in that was causing me to get what I said, you're correct. corrected myself in the previous post - it's still weird EVs, and so far it's looking like everything is level 50 with perfect IVs, but it's probably not for the reason I said before.
