5* Raids for Shiny Treasures of Ruin

shinyruins.jpg

From July 23rd through August 3rd, you will face off against a Shiny Wo-Chien with the Grass Tera Type
From August 4th through August 17th, you will face off against a Shiny Chien Pao with the Ice Tera Type
From August 18th through September 31st, you will face off against Shiny Ting-Lu with the Ground Tera Type
From September 1st through September 14th, you will face off against Shiny Chi-Yu with the Fire Tera Type

These are 5* Raids that the community has to beat 1 Million times each to get them to release them to everyone as a mystery gift.

Hopefully this number is based on metrics they've been keeping for the past couple years because if not oh boy flashbacks to the Gen 7 group challenges we kept failing badly.

One million seems rather low. Especially since these are just 5* raids so they should be more on the easy side.

Then again, if the people you run into in public raids are any indication, vast majority of attempted raids will end in failure.

It's important how they track this Metric, because what happens if someone does the raids offline? Does it just update next time they connect or do they just "waste" a count? 1 Million isn't a huge number over 2 weeks for the install base but I also don't trust Gamefreak's code to give reliable Metrics, assuming they even track this and it's not just a faux-engagement challenge.

I'm hoping these are simple to solo or carry at 5* because I do not look forward to a bunch of Koraidon brought to Chi-Yu and Chien-Pao.

Good morning everyone! The strongest Acid Spray in the game is Iron Moth, followed closely by Dragalge, then Glimmora. Don't use Gengar against a natural Dark type. Enjoy :)
Wo-Chien is basically free because I already had a Tera-Poison Moth built. Chien-Pao depends if they give it Sacred Sword or let Kingambit run over it. Chi-Yu's nuking and Ting-Lu's fat are what I'll be curious to see the workings for.

Back in the SWSH days, the Shiny Zeraora event required a million wins, and we got that. Hell, we even got most of the stretch goal (800,000 out of another 1 million) for the Armorite Ore bonus.

These are just 5* Tera Raids, which are generally easier than Max Raids, so I’d be shocked if we couldn’t clear these.

I wasn't around for the Zeraora raid, so I can't comment on how easy it may be to archieve the goal. I was going to say "oh, 5 stars, then everyone should do fine" but then I got flashbacks of Iron Leaves... even after some of the Mightiests raids I'm not sure if I can trust the overall playerbase.

Anyways, these are some awesome shinies, so I'm very happy they finally released them. I wonder if the same with happen with the Raidons next year.

will this be the correct thread for strategies? I haven't played Scarlet in a while and forgot some mechanics. Copying a build sounds like the best idea

Really excited for these shinies :)

Really not excited for dealing with randoms online :(

I forget, does a victory with 4 total players count as 4 wins, one for each player, or will it just be 1 for that raid?

"Uhm, people tend to only do the featured raid once then never again, how do we fix that?"

"Maybe we make it easier to filter bad teammates or help people have the right pokemon available? Or add solid repeat rewards to incentivize farming it?"

"Nah just force them to do it 1 million times or no capture"

*insert meme with the employee thrown out of the window*

Ah well, 1 million **SHOULD** be done within a day or two without needing to actually grind at all I assume. At least it's going to be interesting.

Boi Chien Pao and Chi You going to be some nuclear bullshit of oneshots....

I'm going to solo these Raids but my heart's out to those who are bracing for the inevitable of people bringing things like Iron Hands to the Ting-Lu fight. Arceus help you all. Anyway, predicting all them will spam Ruination at least but I don't remember their movesets to know what could potentially be on the table.

Already working on my builds.

Limited time Wi-Fi events have always struck a personal nerve with me ever since I missed out on Mario Kart Wii in its prime. Incidentally, we got access to Internet for the sake of gaming right around the time Nintendo WFC shut down anyway. Let’s just say I was TICKED.

That’s not why I’m here, though. Why I’m actually here is because I wanted to see if anyone had posted something yet, and to my complete surprise, I am absolutely shocked no one’s posted this yet in response to this event’s announcement.

I can’t be the only one who thought of this meme, right…?

5-star raid random AI strikes again and Wo-Chien only ever went for its NVE Dark Pulse/Snarl/Pollen Puff against solo Azumarill instead of trying to hit Giga Drain once (I was running Huge Power but Sap Sipper is probably rather invincible either way, not that it's primed for support). Not that it really matters to solo it, but it's one battle down I suppose.

EDIT: I noticed that I had to use 4 Mud-Slaps to tera charge. SadisticMystic raised a point that I might have hit into 0 damage against the shield which didn't count as a charge similarly to Pikachu's first run.

0- SpA 0 IVs Azumarill Mud-Slap vs. Lvl 75 0 HP / 0+ SpD Wo-Chien: 3-4 (1.2 - 1.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever

I tried some solo Azurill and it was not working out well. The aforementioned issue with Mud-Slap not adding tera charge was an issue (also likely exacerbated by Snarl), and the many stat resets + time in general made it a lot tighter than Rayquaza, with even Tablets of Ruin being an issue.

So instead I took my talents back to the online circuit with support Sap Sipper Azurill instead, to make a note of it on Game Freak's records, and surprisingly I got in a game fairly quickly without even needing to trick people with a fake lead or anything.

It went pretty well in terms of no one dying, though I don't think my debuffs were helping the Skeledirges because they were both Unaware, but I did end up getting to terastallize. Iron Hands was running tera Stellar Ice Punch. Johan had the right idea with Torch Song, the Japanese player was also using Torch Song but also had Shadow Ball and Stomping Tantrum for some reason.

I came up with an Arcanine build for the people in Scarlet which can work as an attacker or support (probably, haven't tested supporting yet). (Also kinda because I couldn't be bothered to look for an Iron Moth in area zero)
:arcanine:Arcanine @ Shell Bell
Ability: Justified
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Temper Flare
- Helping Hand/Sunny Day
- Howl
- Morning Sun
Flare Blitz is your main attacking move, even though it has recoil, simply because Temper Flare was too weak. Howl helps you raise your attack alongside Justified, which is essentially like using SD if Wo-Chien spams Snarl/Dark Pulse. Morning Sun is there just in case. Helping Hand or Sunny Day allows you to play a more supporting role as well (Sunny day boosts fire attacks, plus Morning Sun heals more).

Solo Attempt 1:
Ended up just barely timing out with like, 5% HP left. Got a little unlucky with the AI not using Dark moves enough, and also dodging a Snarl once, forcing me to use 1 more turn to set up. Overall, fairly optimistic for attempt 2.
Solo Attempt 2:
This was the one, I managed to beat this one by getting a little more lucky. More Dark moves into me, and got Drifblim and Staraptor as partners, which helped chip the slug down while the shield wasn't up. In fact, Staraptor was actually the one who killed Wo-Chien by stealing my kill and moving first, which was pretty disappointing. Arcanine is fairly slow to win as a build, wouldn't recommend for solo unless you don't just wanna use Moth.

I haven't tried this build as support yet because my NSO subscription ran out, but I'll edit this post whenever I do. On paper, it would work. I'm fairly confident that it could work in practice as well.

:iron moth:
Iron Moth @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Acid Spray
- Flamethrower
- Sunny Day
- Electric Terrain

The Iron Moth I’m packing for online. Running Flamethrower over Fiery Dance because the animation is faster, has 10 more BP, and the SpA boost is both unnecessary and taken away pretty quick anyway. Covert Cloak is to prevent Snarl from slowing you down. Sunny Day and Electric Terrain are for fellow fire types and Iron Moth.

Detailed raid script from https://stevecooktu.github.io/sv_raid_lookup/ (also mostly on Serebii). 330s/5.5 minutes can feel short especially with deaths, an early 30% HP shield, and also the ability to double attack at a 50% chance after 40% HP as usual for the recent bosses.

So far it seems that supports are a pretty solid filler pick to shore up any weak links and keep them alive, just judging from the variety of teammates I've seen tonight. I got in a surprising number of games with a support Azurill lead as the only support in the party and still being respected enough to lock in with. Even with one optimal DPS like Metronome/Leech Life users, or some suboptimal ones (as long as they know enough to run a STAB tera type and move to break through the shield), it worked out for the most part. The main lose condition is really down to randoms bringing frail mons and fainting, so a defense or heal cheer can go a long way.

The lead Ruination can be mean too, I have seen Iron Hands get hit by it with both even HP (unable to Belly Drum) and odd HP (able to Belly Drum and immediately die at 1 HP). So overall I usually lead with a Light Screen T1 and try to be the first to input it so it applies for everyone else, set some Mud-Slaps (usually the shield goes up from damage early), and try to Helping Hand whoever comes out to be the prime DPS near the end.

We did lose the Armarouge/Cinderace raid because the Armarouge was spamming Armor Cannon, and was Level 78, and running Amulet Coin, and even then it was close. Cinderace was also using Libero U-turns for whatever it was worth but at least had Stellar tera I guess. In that scenario I guess the only thing you can do is bring a targeted healer or like Clear Smog or debuff the boss's SpA back, I don't know. Maybe this is a case where an optimal DPS would have been able to carry the battle through but I think there was a good chance of the others just dying repeatedly otherwise.

Today support Azurill has gone with 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 lobby cancelled out.

Hearthflame Ogerpon bonked her way through it without much thought or trouble. Didn’t even bother to note which random partners I had. (Though I’m curious if you have to remain connected to the Internet for it to “count” if you’re doing it solo.)

Also might consider Struggle Bug and Morning Sun in case you're hit by the opening Ruination or another DPS is an Acid Spray user. Debuffing Wo-Chien's SpA helps to idiot-proof the raid to the point of nearly winning with a team that brought a Hippowdon and had a Torkoal Clear Smog our own debuffs away 2 times.

I’ve had both of those moves on my set before (not at the same time, but at different times) and from personal experience I’ve found that even if I’m hit with Ruination, Wo-Chien just tickles Iron Moth, especially when it goes for Pollen Puff or Giga Drain. My idiot-proofing method has been to just end the raid fast lol. Currently haven’t lost yet.

This gets reasonably easier with Tera Poison and Sludge Wave instead; the big boost to Acid Spray is never unwelcome!

I ran this solo a couple times as well; Dragalge wants 40 Speed EVs but gets the job done almost as well as Iron Moth, and Glimmora can do it too. I actually got lazy and ran 0 HP 0 SpD Glimmora to see if it could finish the job, and I finished the raid with no faints and 23 HP. Wo-Chien is a little bit of a pushover, as it turns out.

Tera Poison’s good, too, but I personally like Fire for online play more because there’s a lot more Fire-type users, as well as Koraidon, so the whole party’s Fire attacks do more damage with Sun up. While the Acid Spray boost is cool, the Tera animation for it is pretty long. I’m basically trying to speedrun this raid alongside randoms lol

:Salazzle:
Salazzle @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Corrosion
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Fire Lash
- Acid Spray
- Sunny Day
- Flamethrower

:Zapdos-Galar:
Zapdos-Galar
Ability: Defiant
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Light Screen / Helping Hand
- Thunderous Kick
- Acrobatics
- Sunny Day / Helping Hand

Been running into a lot more physical attackers than I thought I would for a boss that passively lowers Attack, so I thought I’d support them more with these two. Salazzle’s the more accessible option with access to Fire Lash and Acid Spray to support both physical AND special attackers. Galarian Zapdos is the premium option that takes basically no damage from Wo-Chien. Lowers Defense with Thunderous Kick, and takes advantage of Snarl lowering SpA and boosts with Defiant. Tera Flying Acrobatics after some TKs and a Defiant boost does nuclear damage.
