I'm a big fan of Malamar, used one on my first run of Y all those years ago. Excited to see it get a Mega.
Pokémon's marketing certainly has stepped up a notch compared to back when we had to wait for some employee a Japanese printing workshop to anonymously upload blurry photos of next month's edition of an obscure gaming magazine where Pokémon news were announced with no warning whatsoever.
And then half a year later, TPC had to pretend that everybody didn't already know every detail from fan sites, when they announced the same news in English. In the case of BW1, the games were even released in Japan by then.
Guys, we really aren't getting a Mega Flygon again, huh.

Have to imagine that it was such a relief to the marketing team when the releases became worldwide.

hahaha remember when Pokemon XY was coming out and we still were thirsty for info on Sylveon, and then it appeared on a morning japanese variety show which they showed 4 seconds of footage?
People were so thirsty for it that people kept getting mad when the variety skit show kept doing variety skits to have fun with not knowing the typing, and then those weren't "hints" towards anything.

Considering what we know about Emma now, I don't feel there's a connection here. Like, in the anime and probably also the manga we've seen Malamars doing evil mindcontrolling stuff like this, just cause Emma has one doesn't really mean anything. Like, I don't think anyone is saying Lance is going to make an appearance in Z-A now that we have a Mega Dragonite.
Of course Emma's Malamar used to belong to Xerosic so maybe developed some behaviors.

Emma: Ugh, not again. Nasty habit he picked up when him and his previous trainer worked for a nasty group.

Hm, would Emma use mind control to get answers? That's hard to say, like Emma would obviously be doing it for good but at the same time I could see her being opposed to it, especially since she was a victim of mental control (granted she was unconscious while Xerosic tested the Expansion Suit puppeting her body, but still during the final conflict he forced her to do something his subconscious didn't want to do).
I'd say she would definitely have Malamar use hypnosis and telekinesis, but I'd imagine she would want to at least try to convince a suspect/criminal to come clean of their own choice; maybe only using Malamar's mind control if they refused and really needed the information. No need to make enemies especially if the suspect/criminal is only doing things because they've fallen onto hard times/were coerced.
Eh, My Friend Malamar feels a bit like a Contrarian at times, always pulling Reversals and Sucker Punches. Ain't afraid to give you the ol' Switcheroo and Foul Play if ya know what I mean. Can make you feel Topsy-Turvy... Superpower.

I could understand Flying because yeah maybe, those ribbons are flying in a sense, but Bug? Bug?????

I saw jokes about it using the ribbons to have an insect-like six-legged gait, but I'm guessing the more legitimate reasoning for it as Bug are a combination of interpreting the ribbons as being silk specifically and the name. It's noticeably derived from the Latin for forest, so in the absence of any knowledge of the Fairy type and a Grass Eeveelution already existing, Bug is the only other type that's clearly forest-aligned.
I take comfort from the fact that, since we have now had a third round of new Megas in the lifetime of the franchise, I might live long enough to see a fourth round of Megas in which Flygon could feature…
Oh yeah, I remember the justifications ("those feelers are actually antennae!"), it's just they they always seemed so... far-reaching.

Hm... There's a limit to Malamar's powers. Malamar can't convince you they're on the same level as Arceus and god. (No, I'm not brainwashed of Bidoof. I'm just scared of the Perfect Bidoof's wrath after watching Pokemon Rusty.)
