Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

Just got done watching the trailer, and I didn’t really care for it that much, honestly. Mega Malamar looks… they could have done a lot more with it, I think. So far the only Mega that’s been officially revealed so far that I think looks good is Hawlucha. That said, I feel like part of the problem is that I just never really cared for Malamar that much as a Pokémon to begin with. If anything I feel like I remember Inkay more often than I remember this thing.

I don’t expect it to be competitively viable at all, unfortunately. Malamar’s already got that 4x weakness to U-Turn and poor base stats that only seem better than they are because of Contrary Superpower, and since it’s already a Mega, it probably wouldn’t get to make use of Contrary Stellar Tera Blast either. Best case scenario, it becomes a niche option for Trick Room teams in VGC depending on what Ability it gets, but I don’t see it keeping up with Singles power creep unless U-Turn gets a massive distribution nerf. 5/10 Mega overall, I can’t rank it any lower than this with mot much information to go off of but it’s not appealing to me in any notable way.

she's sooo skinny omg!

English one is out now;

edit: Also a Direct has been announced for September 12th, there will probably be something PLZA related due to it being close to the release date and that Directs sometimes feature Pokémon info.
There are rumors going around that there will also be a Pokémon spin-off in some form announced here, but as nothing is confirmed at this time I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, especially if or when said spin-off is just another mobile game anyway. (Look, folks, I want real games, okay? Or at least more traditional games.)

On a much more optimistic note, apparently this Direct is going to be around an hour long and have both Switch and Switch 2 games. That excites me, particularly as someone who is also a Mario fan and wants 40th anniversary news sooner rather than later, followed up by Pokémon’s own big anniversary of 30 years after that. I’ve been saying there’s little to no reason to buy a Switch 2 outside of Mario Kart World and the $10 upgrades for Switch 1 games which I still think should be free but that’s beside the point. This Direct is Nintendo’s best shot at convincing me to finally upgrade; that is to say, this might end up being the difference maker for what console I end up buying myself soon.

Yeah whilst I don't want to discuss rumours, we are long overdue a genuine spin-off Pokémon game that isn't a mobile game. Here's hoping it's something good!

On topic, I actually like MegaMar's design, I think it could have had a bit more to its bottom half, but the floating head, menacing "hair" and the trippy appendages are genuinely fitting for this, even if it does look a little odd.

Lmao WOW the leaked descriptions did not even begin to do this thing justice, he's so sleek, surreal and menacing. Homegirl got one hell of a boss trainer ace
It’s all fun and games until she pulls up to the auction with just Malamar and no-diffs whoever the twist villain of this game ends up being

This might genuinely be the best Z-A render we've gotten yet. Seen some people think the others look a little strange in the 3D renders but this right here looks amazing
Okay yeah, they cooked with this render. This has the opposite “problem” I had with Mega Dragonite where I originally thought the render was so bad I gaslit myself into thinking it was AI generated. I’m bumping this from a 5/10 to a 6/10 now. Still want to see it in gameplay though, I’ll probably do that later today if they’ve posted something.

I agree that I don’t think rumors should be discussed too, too much, if at all, and I do apologize for bringing it up; if anyone is curious, the last “true spin-off” (by my definition that just means anything that’s not F2P and/or a mobile game) I believe was the Detective Pikachu sequel which I believe ended up as a commercial failure, and before that… I think New Pokémon Snap would have been the last one? Holy fall-off, has it really been that long…?

I misread this as “Homegirl got Helluva Boss’d” and that also fits surprisingly well with the unnervingly lithe body.

Can’t wait for Mega FUCKING Malamar with FUCKING contrary hitting a FUCKING superpower and getting plus FUCKING 1 attack and plus FUCKING 1 defense.

Official description copy pasted from the official Pokémon website

Mega Malamar
Malamar’s brain has become enlarged as a result of Mega Evolution. Greatly enhanced psychic power overflows from its body, emitting a bright glow. This vividly colored light further amplifies the Pokémon’s hypnotic abilities, allowing it to freely overwrite the personalities or even memories of others—a terrifying power that can make someone seem like an entirely different person.

Its glowing, undulating tendrils are able to pick up on the feelings of those around it. It prefers battling with efficiency, using its powerful intellect to analyze the situation with levelheadedness as it fights. Mega Malamar views others—even Pokémon Trainers—as its pawns. If it disagrees with an order given to it by a Trainer, it will sometimes respond by hypnotizing them, making this an incredibly difficult Pokémon to interact with.

It appears that Mega Malamar has recently been spotted using its hypnotic abilities on citizens of Lumiose City, creating the boom in popularity for the Pokémon recently observed in a special videoand across the Pokémon social media channels. For a special report investigating the truth behind Mega Malamar’s recent activities in Lumiose City, please visit the official Pokémon YouTube channel.

It’s also staying Dark/Psychic and is taller than I thought at 9’6” (2.93 m) so that’s pretty freaky

Of the four megas revealed so far, I had high hopes for Malamar but it is the one I am disappointed by on first viewing. I like the bioluminescent look it has going on, but really not a fan of its hip thrusting and Peggy Hill hairstyle. Maybe it'll grow on me, but for now I think Malamar is getting dropped from team consideration.

i like mega malamar, though i am slowly getting hit by the "man this could have just been an evolution concept" for these. i guess malamar is harder to make an evolution for because wtf do you do? put your console sideways? not as funny

Pick up the console and spin around, like how it spins around its tentacles

(elsewhere, Alcremie begins to cry)
