hypothetical names for if i transition to a girl (purely hypothetically)

hello dear friends and foes of smogons esteemed off topic forum "smogoff"
im considering hypothetical names for a hypothetical mtf transition and none of my friends are of any help

i have a couple of hypothetical criteria including:
  • cannot be a name common among asian college students on the west coast who are currently dating a man named kevin ngueyn who drives either a honda civic si or a lexus is300 (VERY VERY HYPOTHETICALLY IMPORTANT)
  • i am not hypothetically naming myself madeline it's too much of a stereotype
  • preferably starts with either the letter S and would be better if it starts with the first syllable of the word "seven"
current hypothetical names i am hypothetically considering
  • selene (like the sun/moon mc)
  • ciel (like the blue haired girl from tsukihime)
your hypothetical input is hypotetically valuable to me. hypothetical thank you in advance.

advice from someone who went through the whole affair. hypothetically of course
-try several things out for long periods (months) at a time to see what clicks, and what just felt super epic in the moment but will fade in interest. it's cool if you can get people to refer to you by the name, but even if you cant, it can mean a lot to just. consider yourself as the name. to get a feel for it on you. also stuff like taking the name in video games can help (but ofc be careful abt stuff where other people could see what could become your actual name)
-i know there's lots of madelines and power to them but like, me personally, i did not and would not want to base my name on someone else with that name, there's the potential for some people to have identity tangle-ups because your shaping yourself in a way designed to resemble a person who you're not. maybe you're not that person who has that challenge, in which case rad, it can totally be like 'a symbol my journey' idea or what have you, but id advise at least caution around names shared with a character you like. (see also below)
-a name is what everyone in life will (ideally) call you. the best names will feel fine whether it's a partner, a parent, someone's kindergarter kid, your teacher/boss, your proctologist, whatever. if you're feeling like 'i wouldnt really want [x] to call me by this name', a note of caution. more than two syllables - a note of caution. you've never met anyone with the name? word of caution. these things absolutely can work great, but they're something that can feel great in the moment and not super pan out later. see advice point 1.
-at the end of the day what matters is what works for you. again i do encourage finding something that will work for you long-term as well as now

some names i find nice in the vein of your syllable. if applicable, my notes of caution still apply, even though i like these names

i've asked like 3 different friend groups this exact same hypothetical and it's impressive how quickly the conversation devolves into joking around

fortunately spread throughout the probably joke names there's little bits legitimate advice to be found (or in some cases an entire bullet list of good advice) (thanks adeline) so stuff like this is genuinely helpful if not a little ridiculous on occasion
 
Reading this post deadass made me think I was on r/egg_irl and not smogon dot com LOL

Personally, I hyperfixated on choosing a name for like 2 days instead of studying for an exam right after because my brain could not let go of it the moment I realised I was displeased with my name. That said, most of the advice I've gotten from trans friends online was to not rush it, so maybe this would be of some help to you.

As for actually picking the name, I scoured baby name websites for hours and listed names I liked, then made a shortlist from that one (I had too many) then relentlessly pestered my friends for their opinions and to try them out on me until one sounded "right". This is probably best done irl but you can do it online via vc/voice messages like I did because people irl here would not be accepting of this.

There's also several things I've considered that helped me pick a name-these probably shouldn't be used as a starting criteria but rather if you have trouble narrowing down a list or whatnot. Some of these considerations might also not matter as much to you as they did for me because they are kind of subjective and might not be something you particularly care about.

One thing I considered was if the name could be shortened or if there was an nickname that you like that could be derived from it. For example, my chosen name "Adelynn" could be shortened to "Addie", a sweet-sounding nickname that I really like, and "Lynn", which I didn't mind. I'm really fussy about nicknames, so, as I said, this might not be very applicable to you.

Another thing I considered was how the name would sound. A bit harder to explain this one but like different names give off different vibes (to me at least)- some feel stronger, some more gentle, some sharper etc. This is 100% a vibes thing so just trust your gut on this one tbh.

Of course, the most important thing is if you like the name or not- the criteria doesn't matter at all as long as you really like a name. It is yours and it should make you happy- the criteria is only there if you have no strong feelings/struggle to decide between names.

That's really all I have to say- it's probably gonna take you a bit of time to find a name you are truly happy with, but the reward will be worth it! Good luck! :3

I cant find any mugs with my name. It’s very sad. My name is a Scottish tribe tho

I like my name but I don’t like the history behind it. Like it’s a bit too masculine bc it’s always been my name if that makes sense.
