Introduction

Hello, I am in minecraft and I'm sharing my first RMT. Since literally no one knows me here, I should introduce myself first. I've been playing showdown on and off for about a year now, but I did not start looking at the forums until recently. I'm still kind of ass, often play fully on autopilot and get called out for protecting on gliscor all the time. Despite this, a diamond in the rough was beginning to form... I gotta say, this team is super brainless to use and difficult to break. It also features one of my OG childhood team members from Pokemon Diamond, :tentacruel:, where I only caught him because he was a high level.

The story behind this team is that the first archetype I learned was stall to ragebait noobs and irl friends, and it worked. I liked using SupaGMoney's Heatran stall, since I liked how :Heatran: could easily beat :corviknight: :weezing-galar: :hatterene: and get rocks up. However, I eventually got bored of stall so I moved to the next option, fat balance. I was surprised no one used :Heatran: for hazard stacking despite its favorable rocks matchups. I quickly realized that:heatran: is way better with leftovers than boots so we need a spinner rather than 6 boot users like most hazard stacks. I tried :great-tusk: and :iron-treads: but they had too much defensive and offensive overlap with :heatran: and my favorite spiker :gliscor:, amplifying the water/fairy weakness while making it impossible to fit all desired roles in the last 3 team slots. Luckily, I found a different option...

The Team
Gliskibidi (Gliscor) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 244 HP / 168 SpD / 96 Spe
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off / Toxic
- Spikes
- Protect
You already know what he does. The EVs outspeed :raging-bolt:. Tera dark is a fantastic typing as it resists threatening moves like Hex, Stored Power, Psychic Noise, Sucker Punch, and Future Sight. It also turns subtect:kyurem: into your bitch: tera dark boosts knock off to always breaks its sub, but you can also start spamming spikes even if its behind a sub as freeze dry does net 5% after protect and it cannot freeze you. One alternative is toxic over knock off for a better matchup into guys like tera CM :raging-bolt: and makes progress against incoming :great-tusk: :ogerpon-wellspring:, but at the cost of the matchup against specs users and random substitute or balloon.

Hephaepstein (Heatran) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 140 SpD / 116 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Will-O-Wisp
The stealth rocker. Hard switch him in if :corviknight: or :weezing-galar: pulls up and get rocks right back up. The EVs outspeed jolly :kingambit:. Tera ghost beats :corviknight: if it is idef press and tries to tera and provides secondary spin blocking. Will-o-wisp is mandatory with the recent :alomomola: outbreak, as it makes progress and neuters its flip turn damage, while helping a lot with :kingambit:, :iron-hands: which you outspeed. Taunt is not needed because the team already destroys stall and fat. For a long time, I used lava plume because I was afraid of missing but its just so weak and passive.

Charlie Kirsch (Sinistcha) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Heatproof
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Strength Sap
- Shadow Ball
- Matcha Gotcha
- Calm Mind
Spinblocker with almost perfect defensive synergy with :heatran:, and forms a FWG core with :tentacruel:. The speed evs outspeed :kingambit: :iron-hands: :ursaluna:, allowing you to completely wall lazy teams using :ursaluna:as their solo breaker which is pretty funny. Tera fairy helps against dragons like :walking-wake:, :raging-bolt:, and tera dark :zamazenta:. I previously used stun spore+hex as secondary speed control, but it just made the :zapdos: :raging-bolt: matchup worse, and missing stun spore on a setup sweeper often loses the game on the spot.

MEGA KNIGHT (Corviknight) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SpD
Impish Nature
- Iron Defense
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Roost
The final defensive puzzle piece, this moveset lets you pivot while buying so much time against balance breakers SD :gliscor:, NP :hydrapple: as well as beating almost all DD roost :dragonite: 1v1. Brave bird is used over body press to be less passive, and no defog as we do not want to remove our own hazards.

The Squiddler (Tentacruel) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Liquid Ooze
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off
- Surf
- Sludge Bomb

:tentacruel: is super underrated in OU, and I think its because people use him wrong. The smogon page recommends full defense investment but I tried that and its horrible. Why the fuck are we investing defense for a mon with zero recovery, while ignoring his fantastic speed tier and incredible STAB combination? While boots is what I used for most of my ladder climb and better on fat teams like mine, I think mystic water is also a viable item choice for more offensive teams.

:Tentacruel: can Surf many common fire and grounds, outspeeding mons like :great-tusk:, :glimmora:, :landorus-therian:, :ceruledge: while still beating mons like :cinderace:and :iron-moth:. Sludge bomb hits hard :ogerpon-wellspring: ,:hatterene:,:iron-valiant:,:primarina:. Most of these mons are either OHKOed outright or with slight hazard chip, which is easy to achieve with this team. Tera water can help here too. It comfortably lives moves from boosted :darkrai: :iron-valiant: while outspeeding and trading 2 sludge bombs against :kyurem: and :volcanion: putting them into hazards range. Finally, its literally an S-tier sack, as its Liquid Ooze can deny healing from :ceruledge: and :ogerpon-wellspring:.

What about its spin capabilities? The spinblockers :sinistcha: :pecharunt: :gholdengo: pose little threat as they are slower and their shadow balls / secondary STAB don't do much due to our good bulk and typing. Especially :sinistcha: who can't do anything, as we can spam sludge bombs abusing its weak sp.def and fish for poisons while they literally die if they attempt to heal due to Liquid Ooze. Now for :pecharunt: :gholdengo:, we can knock their boots and spam surf. Non-tera boots surf does 40 to offensive :gholdengo: and 33 to defensive :gholdengo: :pecharunt: , forcing them waste recover PP. Tera water or mystic water can also help break through, or you can swap to a counter on their recover. You can even use Clear Body to block slow parting shot. We have a hazard resistant :gliscor:+:corviknight: core that can pivot around so getting hazards off immediately isn't as crucial. Next time they try to spinblock, they get 2HKOed by surf if all hazards are up, which is common in the hazard stack mirror. Eventually you'll kill them and get off the spin, so that the main breakers :heatran: :darkrai: can come in for free and end the game.

DreamNotFound (Darkrai) @ Black Glasses
Ability: Bad Dreams
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Knock Off
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Sucker Punch
This set honestly makes you feel like a cheater, just like Dream. It revenge kills, sweeps chipped teams, and against stall and balance it forces knocks or defensive tera super easily. Naive is chosen over hasty so you always live a libero :cinderace: u-turn from full HP, but even if you are chipped and will die it can be worth it to knock anyways because of how annoying he is to our hazard stack. Tera dark black glasses dark pulse also has a 43% chance to OHKO :cinderace:, which is slightly in your favor if you account for flinch odds.

Other stuff
Fat CM sweepers, as most of our team's offensive pressure is special. But in particular:
  • CM:Raging Bolt:+tera/screens. :gliscor: is the main bolt counter, but relies on earthquake to kill it. This guy is one of the reasons why I think toxic>knock might be better, but a lot of people will not tera due to fearing toxic even if I don't have it.
  • CM :clefable:, try to use :tentacruel: to force it to turn water and then 1v1 with :sinistcha:.
  • CM :primarina: + substitute
:kyurem:. Usually requires :corviknight: to dodge many freezes or forces a tera. If subtect, consider tera :gliscor: turn 1 to not only have a reliable switchin but also get off free spikes against it. If it's the blimax team, turn 1 tera dark gliscor literally 6-0s so you automatically should do it.

Encore :samurott-hisui:. The only safe switchin is :corviknight: and it often needs to roost. If it comes in on :heatran:, it can be worth it to tank the water move and burn it.

Thanks for reading! I urge that the next time you instinctively add a Tusk to your team, that you consider :tentacruel: instead.

crazy work, i defo thought the squid had some good traits but i never would've expected offensive tentacruel to work! Gotta ask tho how does this team deal with :walking-wake: and sun in general which looks super threatening as well as offensive focus blast :gholdengo: ?
(ive gotta admit the nicknames are a hard read icl no hate tho)

Sun's definitely the hardest matchup, but hazards help a lot. For :walking-wake: there are temporary switch ins with :tentacruel: who can knock off specs and :sinistcha: who can turn fairy. When sun is gone usually :darkrai: forces opponent to sack mons to get sun back up.

I've never had an issue with focus blast :gholdengo:, usually they don't have make it rain so :gliscor: can do just fine, and we have two guys faster as well.

absolute peak, never seen such a highly advanced tentacruel team like this before

Congrats on the peak. One small question though -- you have 4 attacks on Tentacruel. Was using an Assault Vest ever in consideration? It might survive one special attack or two that you might not otherwise. I think Leftovers is fine, but this is more a tradeoff question than a mandate. I would stick to Tera Ghost to spinblock, though.

The main problem with :tentacruel: is its lack of offensive power, rather than its special bulk. Without boots, you're gonna want to get the spin off on the first try so a damage boosting item and/or tera water is better than AV. I don't think its a good spinblocker, its physical defense is bad and can get OHKO by offensive tusk headlong from full even after tera.

This team is like tasty original junk food made by artsy looking dude with a man bun (with Tentacruel as 'house secret sauce')

This team can gives cancer to Bob due unhealthy amount of below 100% acc moves, and yet it looks tempting. Perhaps Bob will try the all 100% acc variant without Toxic/Magma Storm/Matcha Gotcha/Will O Yolo

Brave bird is used over body press to be less passive

Bob not sure wdym by 'less passive', but he is not the one to talk to 3000 ELO #1 so Bob will try by himself

Congrats on your peak Bro

Pretty cool team. I ran a similar squad a while back, but I def like this version better since features a cool, underexplored mon like Tentacruel, which can help alleviate a lot of gliscor's weaknesses - while also differentiating itself much better from Toxapex with its combination of utility & offensive pressure. Its kinda of similar to that Walking Wake set - the Knock Off, Flip Turn set - but with a better defensive profile at the cost of power & the ability to run Rapid Spin over Flip Turn.

Thinking about it a bit more - this offensive Tentacruel set probably has uses on offensive teams as well - notable as a spinner that doesn't get completely fucked by webs because of Clear Body (letting it block Pecharunt's parting shot as well) while having much better defensive synergy with stuff like Kyurem.
