"Worst Pokémon Ever"

I used Crabominable in my first playthru of Gen 7 and Barbaracle in my first playthru of Gen 6...
and yeah people do call you a quirky tryhard if you like them lol

I wouldn't call people who like these Pokemon "tryhards". Certainly not usual picks for a team you'd take to the Elite Four, but for the main game if they're appropriately trained and have team synergy they're not worse than other Pokemon.

I'm not going to say Unown is good, but they were the first Pokemon with alternate forms (...) and the Ruins of Alph were a pretty memorable part of Gen 2. The different forms thing is less interresting now with more Pokemon getting forms and forms that do somehting though and the Ruins of Alph were last in a game... I'm not going to check how long ago it was...

Also, the third movie made Unown way cooler than they are in game... and way cooler than the rest of the anime... At least they had some time not being a borderline joke Pokemon.

A thing about Unown is that in a way they're sort of like Zygarde's Cores & Cells. They were not meant to be used in battle, the only reason you can is because they were created in Gen 2 where GF's philosophy was "if it's a Pokemon you can technically send it out into battle". But their low stats and only knowing one Move was more than enough to show these Pokemon had another purpose, even if it's a purpose the player can't do anything with. Simply put, Unown exist as a worldbuilding Pokemon, an enigmatic Pokemon whose true power is unfathomable because you need hundreds to even tap into it. I'm not sure what GF's plan was for the Unown at the time of their creation, but we have seen them since used by Arceus in the thousands if not millions to bend reality; seemingly implying the Poekmon World is maintained by if not made from Unown. To know the secrets of the Unown is to know the secrets of the universe, and only a god has the power let alone the mind to handle such a thing.

tryhard in this instance is more that there's a certain type of vocal pokemon fan that thinks if you like ugly or goofy pokemon that you are only using them for their stats or you are being a contrarian if you say you like them. Both of these pokemon are also used on Elite Four teams for the record.

I tend to like mostly weird pokemon and then also the big idiots, and the latter is usually very high levels of bulk or offense which can make most pokemon games rather trivial to complete, not that any of the games are actually hard to begin with.

I think in gen 2 since the power level is so insanely low that you can easily use an Unown if you really wanted to and wouldn't be at that much of a disadvantage.

Another kinda dumb concept in my book for a Pokemon and form with stats that outclass Pokemon meant to be broken. There is so much that I don't like about it. I mean we had Pokemon combining in the past since generation 1 with Slowbro but this is just 1 Pokemon riding another Pokemon. It would be kinda like me coming up with a new form of Pikachu where Pikachu is just standing on Charizard's back and give it the Electric/Fire-type. Aside from that the individual Pokemon aren't even standouts and don't even feel like legendary Pokemon (same with the ice horse). It is just another Zamazenta or Zacian moment of an uncreative design choice having many broken things added to it. It has two abilities at the same time, stats that make Mega Mewtwo Y look like a UU Pokemon, can hold an item and it can snowball out of control.
Hopefully it gets nerved like the dogs in the future.

I absolutely hate how this mon, their ice counterpart and urshifu are just pay to win

you need the dlc in gen 8 for them and then in gen 9, you need the gen 8 games, the dlc and a home subscription, otherwise you can't win tournaments with restricteds

and gf's philosophy of not nerfing legendaries (unless you're the gen 8 dogs) and instead advancing powercreep to keep them in check is so fucking bullshit. Now we have several megas with 150+ speed just to keep this shitty horse

I think the worst Pokemon of all time is Zarude because it's literally just nothing. It's supposed to be a Mythical but no one really cares about it. I think of Mythicals, expectation wise, they're the creme of the crop of Pokemon collecting, albeit modern games making them accessible (fair imo as long as they start allowing them in VGC more), but to actually make their rarity feel cool you need to like.. Make them interesting or desirable

Like there are so many nothingburger/boring Pokemon, but doing that in the Mythical role which in my opinion has consistently served some of the most interesting concepts and good designs in 30 years of this series, the expectations are higher and they kinda just entirely blew it

Pecharunt kinda gives up on being like rare mythical status but it's also a fine design, interesting concept (imo) and has things it can do battle wise that are interesting

When I think of Johto, Celebi is one of the first Pokemon to come to my mind. Unova? Victini. Kalos? Magearna, which is wrong, but sue me. Mew is kinda a shadow in the background of Kanto that plays into a lot of the story and is behind Mewtwo one of the most popular Pokemon ever, with Mew being very popular itself. Even mythicals that are I think less popular (regardless of my taste) have interesting as hell movies/media, like Shaymin with its movie and Shaymin-Sky with Explorers of Sky

What the fuck does Zarude do.. It's got a movie I guess but I barely remember it and while other mythical movies tend to tie them into plots with other important legendaries (Shaymin, Giratina) (Keldeo, Kyurem) (Mew, Mewtwo) (Jirachi, Rayquaza) etc. I don't think that's really the case here tbh

I don't even dislike Zarude but I think seeing it and feeling nothing is like the worst possible thing a Mythical could be lol

I agree

Charizard. Yeah it’s cool but competitively is sucks. Stuck with boots if you don’t want to die. Most of its STABs are wildly inaccurate. And because it’s cool I will try to find uses for it only for it to suck and waste space. It’s basically a dragon bimbo. Oh right, it’s not even a dragon type which would make it actually useful!
