I'm surprised to see KOA's design so low in votes, it's not very close at all when it comes to 3rd place and lower. Any how I voted for Elagune's wooden raptor! GO WOODEN RAPTOR GO.

Everyone musta totally missed your submission =\ and most of the stuff does indeed look Grass/fire IMO.
Thats just it people didnt miss it, as I got quite a few comments about how good it was and that some people liked it. So I have no idea whats going on, especially since people liked mine and some others didnt even get mentioned by other people as being liked.

First let me say it's a shame Regi DS' submission wasn't in on time.
Perhaps for CAP4 we could have reasonable but definite deadlines for both the art and stat spread submissions; that way the discussions don't drag on and no one is caught by surprise by an unmentioned cut-off point.

Second, for all those saying deer are weak and fragile, let me remind you that some of the larger variants (and I'm not even talking moose, here) can walk away from head-on auto collisions. Not too shabby!
My concept here was that of an impending forest fire, with the stag's antlers representing burning trees. Alternatively, they could also be seen as a sort of burning bush for a 'deity of the forest' angle, which is where, yep, the Princess Mononoke ref comes in (plus an awesome storybook from my childhood called Magic Deer based on a Chinese legend of a wood spirit taking the form of a deer)!

Whether Celebi loses its day job or not isn't any longer as big a concern for me; it's just been great reading this discussion, and that's reward enough, really.

I actually did say that I was posting the Art poll in both the art submission thread and BST total 6.5 thread.

Despite the fact I've been calling it a deer, I see it more like an Elk rather than a White Tailed Deer. I also like to added that Elk are very bulky animal in real life, some weighting up to 1,300 lbs. I admit if it looked like a moose, then people would say it's bulky lol

Cartoons!, regardless of what happens here I hope you'll continue bringing your excellent artistic sense to the CAP forum. The same goes to all newcomers. The point has already been stressed over and over how fantastic the submissions were overall. That tyranitar.armaldo's got overlooked is a testament to this (remember there is a limit to how many options can be in a poll).

But to bring this back to the real discussion, Karrot I think said that we should ignore the art in term of movepool, but that goes against the entire CAP process as I understand. The art directly influences the movepool, that really needs to be taken into account when voting on art.

Nah, I never said that. I did mention, however:
Anyways, everybody seems to be voting on what seems "bulkier." I thought we established that appearance has nothing to do with neither type nor appearance?
I admit the second "appearance" is a typo though, lol. That's supposed to be "stats," which ties in with the previous sentence.

Which means, yes, I realize that and agree with you.

Vote on art for the art. The movepool depends on the art, and that's perfectly fine. It's not too difficult to have any move work for an art piece, with certain exceptions (such as Power Whip).

More "generic" moves like Grass Knot don't need too much reasoning to use, as they aren't very specific in description (unlike Power Whip).

Best example I heard was Starmie having Grass Knot. It has no arms, no vines, nothing, yet it can rope up the enemy and swing it around?

I dig the deer. He looks tankish and special much like a Walrein of sorts. I do see the woodman winning but, I think Cartoons made the deer my favorite with his animation as a pissed of Bambi's dad. We might have a usable deer because poor Stantler never gets love.

I would have voted for Cyzir's Bell-pepper-gross if it was on here, but it isn't. I LOVE pyrrh's lava snake on an artistic level (except for the eyes) and think it's the best submission in terms of "looks". The snake does look a bit too slow for the speed BST. My vote goes to cartoons, though. The way the fire type was implemented on the grass is simply brilliant. It looks bulky while also looking fast enough to fit the stat allocation. Good work everyone.

I voted for the Woodman I just love that thing. I am amazed though that Doug got so few votes. That thing is really cool. If not for Elagune's, it would have been my vote.

you know shineenigma, I think alot of people thought just the same thing.

'if it were not for Woodman, I'd vote for X'. just not some people (including me :D)

I voted for the deer, that one has to be my favorite with the woodsman coming in second. Great job to all the artists that submitted.

shame cartoons isn't gonna win still voting for it because it looks like a fire pokemon i would use

Same. Woodman just seems too much like other pokemon imo :s Also, when people say "I would've voted for X, but woodman is going to win" Why do you think he is going to win? Because you are voting for him instead of your favorite choice <_<

We are setting up the CAP Art Contribution Hall of Fame Thread soon right? Would hate to have to dig through necrothreads in search of art of this quality to see it again, and dream of what might have been...

Voted for Cartoons!'s

It's the most original, an incredible design and fits what we want. Originality is really everything for it, such an amazing design.

Why did you have to choose one from each artist? KOA has had multiple art submissions because they were all great! I would've voted the Gentle Giant.

Honestly, to me, this has been quite the experience. I really want to see my idea realized as a semi-real Pokemon, and I'm sure that many of the other artists here also want to see their own ideas materialized into something that other people can play and enjoy.

I also find it rather interesting that there are many who say that my design looks too much like a Digimon, yet there are others say that it looks too much like a Pokemon which caused them to pick another choice. I find this rather interesting, but I will not try to sway their votes. If anything, I want this to remain a democracy where ideas will be judged on their merits rather than their deficiencies.

As for how the vote's coming out... Honestly, I still think I have a great chance of losing. Cartoons!'s Deer/Elk/Moose/Woodland Animal is simply too great, and leaves a lasting impression in my mind that I'm not sure whether my piece of artwork can match. It leaves a realistic sense of awe, while mine was designed to try and adhere to Sugimori's artwork as much as possible, which is slightly underwhelming, I believe.

Although the votes say otherwise, I am currently thinking this thing can turn out three ways, between my Woodman, Cartoons!'s Deer, and KoA's design, which I believe is a Cockatrice. May the best concept win.

Debated for a while between the first two, but ultimately picked the first one.
Next time I hope there will be more than just two days to submit art.

When it comes to all the artwork on the front page of this thread, I would say yours and KOA's match Sugimori's Pokemon style artwork the best. And this is primarily the reason why yours is winning I believe. When people first look at it, at least when I do I think;
"That does look like a Pokemon, or one that should be created.".

I think the same thing about KOA's, but his not being colored probably made it get a lot less votes. And for the grass/fire elk, it's an AMAZING piece of art, but I just don't think it has the Pokemon Sugimori style that was needed to actually beat the wooden raptor. It's not over though, you never know.

Oi Gothic Togekiss im talking to you. Why was my design shoved aside for some of the bland and very similer ideas on this poll? My design was liked by quite a few people including a moderator so why did it get shafted?

Because quite frankly, there were too many designs to choose from and with only ten option for a poll, I could only fit so much into one place. If I could go back into time, I would have made it a bold poll and then could fit everyone's submissions into one place, but it's too late now. Personally, I liked some of your artwork but Nopie's stegeo won my heart in the end.

I picked KoA's even though I see now that it has no chance of winning. I voted before I read through the entire topic, so I guess that's what I get.
