Oh thank god it fixed it. I cant stand my other gc controller, due to the fact that it isn't broken in. Only smash players know what i mean by that too lol

Seriously man, the C-stick is like the lamest button in the world. Mines keeps screwing up. I'll throw out a smash in the perfect opportunity, and it doesn't do anything :(. It's been happening to me so many times lately. And then there is the random times when I'll just change directions or something. They need to really like Improve that damn thing.

Oh yeah man I definitely know what your talking about. I can't stand my new controller right now because it isn't fully broken in yet. xD

For clarification, the C-Stick randomly fails for Brawl. This is not the controller, but the game. The game will also fail to read C stick input unless the stick goes from the neutral position to the fullest extent of a direction and returns to neutral. This was not the case in Melee.

Yes it does randomly fail, however sometimes it will bug out on me, and will work one time... then do nothing the next 50 times. That can hardly be described as random failing when it refuses to work 50 times in a row. Unless I just get very unlucky somehow... other battles it works whole time without fail, if I use the method I mentioned a page ago.

Also if you use the C-stick for specials I don't believe it will fail to read the C-stick IIRC.... at least it hasn't happened once for me.

Something I posted elsewhere but I'll also post here, because I need ideas!

I've been having a good deal of problems gimping Ike's Aether as Marth, and I'm looking for a few tips and/or strategies to do this better.

I'm generally of the theory that, if Ike gets hit off the stage, he should be as good as dead, especially with his crap recovery. I tend to have issues gimping specifically when he's directly below the ledge, so that Aether either comes up and straight-up sweetspots it or goes slightly above the ledge. I can't seem to hit him when he goes slightly above the ledge without getting hit first, and straight-up sweetspotting is its own issue.

I also have trouble actually going to grab the ledge and be hanging on as he falls while I'm still in invincibility, mostly because I can't get past the annoying floating sword. If I'm already there, I can usually drop down and jump back up well enough to re-grab the ledge as he's using Aether (thus causing him to fall to his doom). Unless I push him a decent distance off the stage in the first place, though, I generally won't be able to be there at the ledge fast enough (before Aether starts).

So, any tips here for gimping Ike out of his Aether?

One idea I just finished testing out that worked pretty well (against the CPU) was, if they were recovering low enough, jump off the ledge (no fastfall usually necessary, depends on the timing and person though) and when they start Aether, do a [reverse] dolphin slash. Invincibility in the first 5 frames means I won't take a hit at all, Ike has no super armor while he's rising, and it will spike them against the stage (if there's one to spike them against) while I grab the ledge. Dolphin Slash generally happens so fast that there's really no chance of teching the hit.

edit 2: You should probably be watching Ike carefully when you're doing this. It'd suck to jump off and have Ike Aether early while you're above him for a suicide kill!

Not sure if you have tried this or not, Surgo, but what about Countering him on the tip of the ledge. If the aether rises above the stage, you will counter him and usually they will then be unable to recovery since you pushed em so far back. It also works on his Side B recovery perfectly.

If you catch him while he is in invincibility frames by chance, there are no worries since you are taking no damage as well.

Usually gimping Quick Draw is a simple matter of jumping in front of the move (and airdodging if your percentage is high), since the move will stop at the closest enemy it can hit, regardless of shielding or invincibility. That's a really good suggestion too though, assuming that Ike isn't too high up when he uses Quick Draw.

As for gimping Aether... hmm. Since I play Yoshi I can't really think of a good one. I'd usually try a footstool jump, since Yoshi can flutter jump through Aether if you miss. For ordinary characters though... what about one of the space animals' reflectors from the opposite side? (Assuming the ledge is on the left and Ike is in the middle, you'd go for the right). If you hit him just right he'll ricochet off the wall, or if it's a stage like Smashville, into an unrecoverable area.

Fooking C-Stick, I want a new GC controller anyway just so I can break in a new one so I know I have full analog sensitivity. I hope they release the new white ones here in the US, I want to get one without paying ten bucks shipping from Play-Asia or something.

Well I'm no Marth player, but couldn't you just SH or walk off the stage and aerial him? It's not as if Marth lacks the range to avoid Aether, it just takes some practice mebbe. That Counter idea sounds pretty safe though.

Speaking of this, I have a question that I wanted to ask here before trying to decide which forum to post in on Smashboards. I bought a used GC controller about a month ago (as some of you may remember), and things are starting to go wrong. it works fine, but sometimes the B button doesn't respond when I need it to. Particularly annoying when a bomb remains unpulled or SHDA goes unshot. I cleaned everything on the outside, but I feel I need to get inside and give it a few good blows, or possibly use compressed air. However, I worry this will completely destroy the controller, or something will fall out and I'll have to put it back together and end up breaking it. Has anyone tried this, or think it safe? If you have, any tips? Thanks.

Also posting to say that I finally got my Cruel Brawl challenges out of the way. The Jigglypuff thing wasn't working for me, so I went with Pit. Worked well enough for my 10 kills. Now if I beat 100-Man Brawl in under 3:30, I'll be done with Melee completely. I'm using Metaknight with great results, but I'm still about 20 seconds over.

I'm pretty sure you need some sort of wonky screwdriver to get the controller open, but you shouldn't hurt anything as long as you put things back together correctly. If you can't trust yourself to do that, well too bad. Mine sometimes feels unresponsive too (esp. when it comes to trying to perform aerials immediately on a jump), which is why I want a new one. I only have two GC controllers anyway...

Lucas can do 100-Man in under three minutes, PK Thunder is instakill and cuts through everything alive at the time of casting.

just got back from the Game Traders tournament, and i had a great time =) the rules were a 10 minute match with 10 stock, and if you ran out of time, the remaining players with the most amount of kills wins (not necessarily the person who won the match). confusing, i know, but it worked reasonably well. it was a 64 man tournament, and the shop was absolutely packed... i was lucky to have gotten in

the only items on were smash balls, and the stages were chosen by what round you were playing in...

Round one:

i played as Meta Knight, facing Lucas and two Toon Links. all the first round matches took place on Battlefield. the first thing i quickly realized is that Lucas is annoying, so i made an effort to dispatch him first (luckily getting the final smash on one of them). once he was eliminated, i abused Mach Tornado and forward tilt to stay alive, as well as getting a few kills in the air.

when the time ran out, i was the player with the most kills, so i won =) (lucas actually had more kills than me, but he ran out of lives and thus wasnt counted...)

Quarter finals:

this is as far as i got im afraid =( the opponents were interesting at least... Zelda, Kirby and my friend playing as Pokemon Trainer, once again versus Meta Knight. annoyingly, the stage was Luigi's Mansion for the quarter finals, which was unhelpful to say the least.

nobody ran out of lives, so it went by most kills... and the person playing as Zelda got plenty thanks to good aim with her final smash. the annoying thing was, i had won the actual match, since i had more stock than anyone else, but thats not the tourney rules, so there you go...

Semi finals:

both matches took place on Lylat Cruise, one match was Toon Link vs Zelda (toon link won), and Wolf vs Ike. i watched the Wolf match, and he pretty much dominated. he got two KOs from one landmaster at one point, which was impressive... good game all around

Finals:

Toon Link vs Wolf final on final destination... it had to come down to this, i suppose. final smashes were turned off for this match. Toon Link just simply dominated; he was an extremely skilled player who simply would not let up on the projectiles, even for a second.

overall it was a great tournament... i had a lot of fun =) i would have preferred to see less Wolf's, Toon Link's, Marth's and Olimar's, though... but ah well...

i can do it without b-sticking. you saw me doing it consistently without bsticking.
i can't make up my miond people.
i kinda main link, toon link, fox, and shiek. i just cant decide between them. i do better with link than toon link, likewise with shiek and fox. i guess sheik and link will be my mains, but i will do more testing with them to make up my mind.

I went to the EB Games Canada tournament yesterday. Knocked out first round. I was supposed to practice this morning with the WiiMote but got called in for work in the morning so had no time. Had a hard time running and dodging, which meant I got hit by a fully charged smash a few times. The guy was fairly good too though. Although come to think of it, 3/4 my deaths were due to an item. Meta Knight vs Yoshi on Final Destination (random stages).

I got a final smash during it after KOing him and a bunch of people seem to misunderstand why I wasn't using it. Meta Knight does not use Final Smash at 0%. He racks up damage and KOs at 40%+. A little irritating, only a few understood what was going on. A bunch were like "press the 1 button!!!!". Of course I still screwed up as it seems Yoshi has to be even higher than 40 to die =( He got me at the end with a final smash as well which KOed me. He got it and I tornado'd right away to try and get it away but he activated it too fast. Neither of us were really used to the controls, but he still outplayed me and won.

A CD dropped during my match and I almost stopped fighting to get it before I realized it wasn't my Wii. Guys there ranged from fun to talk to the average obnoxiously loud gamer who likes to quote internet memes.

The funniest match was the one before though. It was on Yoshi's Island (Melee). One of those crates on wheels dropped and it rolled back and forth due to the bowl shaped nature of the level and KOed the two guys a total of 3 times XD. They didn't know what to do and it just got really fast. Then the Fox in the match used Landmaster to KO, but since he didn't play with items he didn't understand how to control it and died.

Haha god Yoshi seems to cause you endless trouble Firestorm, sorry to hear you got knocked out so soon. I'm surprised people don't realize that Metaknight can't KO at anything below 50% with his Final Smash, which is a shame.

I thought it was 40% that it KOs at. I don't play with items much but could've sworn I heard that number tossed around and I do remember KOing some characters at 40. It might have been a light character or maybe they just had bad DI.
