As for how the vote's coming out... Honestly, I still think I have a great chance of losing. Cartoons!'s Deer/Elk/Moose/Woodland Animal is simply too great, and leaves a lasting impression in my mind that I'm not sure whether my piece of artwork can match. It leaves a realistic sense of awe, while mine was designed to try and adhere to Sugimori's artwork as much as possible, which is slightly underwhelming, I believe.
Yeah, this is exactly the feeling I was trying to explain in my post. If you look hard enough, you can find that it fits a Sugimori Legendary Pokemon very well - much like a second forest diety to Celebi.

As for your wooden dragon, yes, I feel it looks too much like a Pokemon (yeah, seems weird compared to what everyone else thinks, lol). I dunno, but the way you furnished your art leaves a very Sugimori-like impression. If you pulled something out of his sketchbook and compared it to your wooden dragon, they would probably look extremely similar in style!

If I could go back into time, I would have made it a bold poll and then could fit everyone's submissions into one place, but it's too late now.
Honestly, I think we should have this type of poll, with Elagune and Cartoons!'s works as the choices. The type of poll we are using now just makes it too easy for someone to randomly open the thread, look, and vote without much thought. At least forcing them to bold means they have to go through the whole posting process. Maybe you could even make a rule in where they have to explain their choice.

It's not too late, I think!

That could work with all art selections polls and maybe this one too is there's a spillover. Personally I feel that even with a bold poll, TL would have to choose one artwork per artist to be fair with everyone, but with the bold poll there would be room for everyone.

I like the woodman, and its probably gonna win, but I have to vote Blu. It fits the strong, slow, and bulky BST perfecty

I also find it rather interesting that there are many who say that my design looks too much like a Digimon, yet there are others say that it looks too much like a Pokemon which caused them to pick another choice.

I believe the controversy is this: I say your submission looks like a digimon because, as has been said in other art threads, pokemon do not have inorganic weapons, while yours seems like it does. I understand that it is a wood lizard, and that wooden cannons are easily justifiable, but you've got two light colors and a dark one. Not meshing in my opinion. Alternatively, the pokemon comment comes from Woodman looking a lot like Grovyle, which is both unoriginal and uncalled for in a pokemon of whom it was decided will have no pre-evolutions of existing pokemon.

I may seem harsh there, but I really don't want your submission to win, because Cartoons! made a better submission. Sorry, democratic process and all.

Also I'm going to chime in with the others and say this poll came WAY too early. What did you give it GT, three days for art? If you're TL in the future, you need to give it at least 5, as a week isn't even close to pushing it. I understand your position that the process can be speeded up, but not at the expense of the creative process.

I understand what you're saying and I can sympathize with you since I'm an artist myself, but I felt that if this project didn't start picking up the pace and move it along then things would get stale and boring. People requested I gave them more time to come up with stat spreads and this was the only area of the project that could move on. Personally I wish I could do this whole thing all over again but it's in the past now.

Blastoise?

Not only that, but quite a few Pokemon look like Digimon or vice versa.
Snorlax: clearly a blue Monzaemon (Teddymon).
Charmeleon: Guilmon with less black markings.
Charmander: Most obvious one, Agumon.
Charizard: Very similar to MetalGreymon
Moltres: Birdramon
Entei: Liomon or SaberLeomon
Walrein: Ikkakumon

Honestly, there's very little difference overall between the original sets of Digimon and Pokemon. The new ones I'll give you seem grittier and more "gunned out", but still, unless the Digimon is carrying a weapon they could easily pass as Pokemon most of the time.

I'd just like to remind everyone that this is a vote for best concept rather than best artwork. Vote for the one you think would make the best tiny sprite!

Voted for Elagune's woodmanlizard.
I must say, though, that it was a close draw between that and pyrrocorax's and cartoons!'s and blu's, and the rest are pretty good too.

Since when are wooden cannons inorganic weapons? They're created with one the most organic things on the face of the earth: Trees!

EDIT: Wait, flesh is the most organic thing on the face of the earth. Trees are still up there though :P

btw, I don't get how mine is Grass/Fire when its a volcano/tree, really
(but then again it looks like a tree hahaha)

I too support the notion that bolded poll might have been the best way to go about this.

Also, I understand you want the process to go by relatively fast, but I personally feel we've just been blasting through this CaP kinda quickly.

(Mostly in terms of the Art Poll. 3 days is kinda abrupt, imo)

Yeah, it doesn't really resemble a volcano all that much. Honestly, when I see it (especially the alternate pose one you did)... I think it's a balding midget clown with a loaded magnum.

Yeah, I don't see why so much more time is being given to stat spreads than art. Do people really need like, a week or whatever to make a spread?

ouch ;[, but then again, if you see it that way then I can't change it ;p

I voted for the lava snake because it had the most original design imo, but the poll results show that it has a plant's chance in lava to win. *is shot*

I don't get the "cannons = inorganic" argument, since both Blastoise and Magmortar have cannons as part of their design (Magmortar's are only apparent in the Sugimori art, but they're there). I think part of it may stem from the whiteness on the inside of the cannons, as opposed to any real coloring and stuff. The back view that was shown in the previous thread had the fiery glow from inside the openings, which is infinitely more awesome looking.

EDIT: lol 69 posts. </perverted>

I thought not, unlike now. Maybe it's my personally belief that the art should be voted on first before spreads. I gave fair warning I was about to make the art poll =/

Half this shit you said is so much bullshit. Then you have to nerve to say his woodman looks, unoriginal. Well if that is the case, i guess that Revenankh's art shouldn't have been picked because it looks like a Duskull and Banette mixture. Wait, lets not forget about Syclant, who actually looks like a oversized version of Treeko. Oh shit, how could i forget to say we can't use "Cartoons" picture as well, seeing is his looks like an evolution of a fucking Stantler. It seems you envy his picture, which is why you don't want it to be chosen. Also if you said woodman looks like a Lizard, and the Sceptile family is from the Lizard family, wouldn't they fucking look alike? I mean i am sorry for acting out like this, but his post was totally uncalled for, inaccurate, ignorant and an absolute display of idiocy.

Now on the other hand, you said it isn't right for a Pokemon to have showings of inorganic weapons? What item on his appearance seem to be inorganic. He grows tree's on his arms to show the Grass type he has within. If you want to talk about inorganic weapons, how about we removed
  • Blastoise
  • Primape
  • Hitmonchan
  • Farfetch'd
  • Marowak
All from the Pokemon, and probably more, for having weapons of some sort. Also i liked Cartoons design, but lets be real. That thing looks like it it should be in a horror movie or something. It looks very creepy and the appearance just doesn't flow all together like Leonin [Leo-nin] ( that is the name i have given the woodman )

Either way Cooper, i think you making a bias comment like that just because you like another picture more seems quite sad. Also shows how desperate you are for a picture to that majority of the community voted for i might add, to lose to a picture that looks better. Which in turn makes you look, sad. = /

Ok, let's not flame each other in here please.

I know art is subjective, but let's not take it too far.

Yeah, no need to take it over the top.

I must say, though, that Cooper's post was extremely snide, especially since both artists have called fair game. =\
