Wii Fit

Anyone else here getting it?
It's not as good as proper exercise but I can see it motivating people who wouldn't otherwise do so (myself included).

I'm definitely going to try and stick at it. There was someone on the internet who did 30 minutes to an hour every day since Wii Fit's release in Japan and the results were pretty positive. He kept his eating habits steady as a control.
Unfortunately, I can't find this particular blog at the moment.

If enough people were up for it, I could see a point in starting a thread keeping a log of how people are doing. Anyone else up for it?

Ah, exactly!
I don't understand why people question whether it works or not. The board isn't magical and neither is the game, it's just like doing basic exercise. You could probably do more extensive work-out and get better results but as I said, it's all about motivation.
EDIT: Just re-read the conclusion. He basically confirms what I said.

I enjoy Wii sports, i would give it a chance but i feel kinda shy to walk to the store and ask for it since i'm clearly overweight :p.

Penny Arcade about it.

I'm definitely getting it.

I don't see it as a huge part of my cardio but it will help keep me aware of my progress... or lack of.. lol :)

If it doesn't come with a wiimote i don't see why anyone should get it. What can you do on there that you can't do normally exercising or by playing wii sports?

PS this is my 20th post lol... and it only took me a year and 3 months lol

Yeah, I plan on getting it. I don't exercise normally due to lack of motivation and the fact that it's fucking boring. Wii Fit should fix both those problems.

I'd like to just point out that this idea isn't totally original, DDR did the same thing as a side-effect!

NESgamer: amazon.com is the answer.

A)So you will never buy a game if it doesn't come with a controller? In that case why should anyone buy ANY GAME IN THE WORLD since they do not come packaged with controllers?

B) The whole point is that it is a "fun" way of exercising... gamers aren't known for loving exercise.

C) Wii sports is nothing like this... so swinging your arms is the same as a cardio workout? Wii sports is completely different from Wii Fit. Nice try.

That's over-simplifying it. A lot of the game doesn't actually use the balance board apart from, say, resting your feet on it. The muscle work outs, for example use the board to check you're balancing your weight properly for the stretches.

Speaking of DDR, there is a game somewhat similar to it and I think it's the most fun. There's a free mode where basically you just step up and down (unlike the proper "game") and the Wiimote tells you how you're doing ("you've passed 100 steps"). The point is you can watch normal television while doing it. Same with the free jogging although that one is somewhat interesting to watch since you follow a little track with loads of Miis.

Funnily enough, this game actually uses the Miis really effectively.

Wii Fit was released in Europe recently. It was selling an average of 90 copies a minute according to Woolworths in the UK. That's 1.5 copies a second!

I think it is a little sad the people need a video game to get in shape (no offense guys). I try to keep in shape. I play soccer during the fall, in which our coach runs us pretty hard. I run about 7 miles a week, swim twice a week (~40 laps each time, sometimes 70) and when i remember and i feel like it, I do 125 sit-ups and about 50 pushups. Of course, I eat a lot of fatty foods and don't really give a shit. But, I'm a vegitarian. It's not really that hard, and its just a gimmick to get people to think that they will exercise. I prefer to spend the time that my parents allow me to play video games Playing Halo, not Wii Fit.

If it works, why not use it? I wouldn't call it sad, more encouraging the market that needs it most :-)

I heard about this last night on the radio, and it got a pretty positive endorsement by some well known fitness instructors here, so it obviously has some benefits. Nothing like some good fresh air though to keep you in check (and that doesn't mean just opening the window :-p)

For some people it is hard to get off their ass... oh and please tell me how it makes you "think" you are getting exercise... Last time I checked you are required to move during Wii Fit, meaning you don't "think" you are getting exercise, you ARE getting exercise.

While I admit it is somewhat sad that people do need their main form of exercise in a video game package, it at least will help those people who would otherwise do nothing.

Smogon's average age is a bit higher I believe. We can play games whenever we want, not when our parents allow us to. Wii Fit is not a replacement for excercise it's a supplement. I think the feature a lot of people like is that there are cool little minigames they can play (like the Skiing one) and the fact that the game keeps a record of how you're doing in your fitness routines daily. It's like a little thing you do for maybe 15 minutes a day.

It looks fun, but it's a waste. In my opinion 90 euros is too much for that kind of game. I get enough exercise through Badminton, especially the last couple of months. (maybe even years) I think people should get their own motivation and not get it through a game.

Just one thing: 125 sit-ups and 50 pushups isn't much if you're doing that every week =/

I meant that people think they will excersize, just like they think they will play Wii sports ;)

FYI, 15 minutes a day isn't a lot of exercise. I think that like Wii Sports/Play, its gonna be fun at first then get boring.

Eh, my bad. Well, its not like my parents are super strict on that stuff, but If I end up playing like for 7 hours, then they're gonna get pissed (Not that I do annyways)

Well, people are saying it's what they need to get motivated. Well, that doesnt sound like a supplement.

Just one thing: 125 sit-ups and 50 pushups isn't much if you're doing that every week =/

Every other day or so. And I do other stuff which is not as boring. Which is also why I dont have a six-pack. ;)

And still, why waste the time that

Don't quote my post seperately if it makes you not get the message. 15 minutes a day = supplement to regular excercise. Although there are tons of people who don't even do 15 minutes a day of excercise. I should get off my lazy ass and do something =( Too many games to play, projects to do, and work to be done x.x

Although there are tons of people who don't even do 15 minutes a day of excercise.

So Wii Fit is supplementing nothing... And, I really dont see how Wii Fit is motivating you. I mean, i would rather kick around a soccer ball than pretend to do so with Wii Fit inside. Also, why pay $50 for it? (I don't know the actual price, but that's what most Wii games cost)

When did I say Wii Fit is motivating me? I'm not planning on buying it anytime soon. Maybe if someone gives it to me as a gift? I might try it out and just see how it is. I heard some of the games were pretty fun and the Balance Board is a cool idea. I'd like to see it used in some more traditional games rather than a minigame collection.

Balance Board does sound like a cool idea. But, I still think that using a video game to exercise won't help much. It's like when people say that the Wii gets older people off their couches. Yeah. Not really.

iirc it is $80 or something actually

More to prove my point then.
