The best lead?

Sure this isn't a RMT so i'll probably get flamed, but i've been doing some research and i was wondering if anyone else would agree with me, that this guy may possibly be the best lead out there.

169.gif

Crobat @ Focus Sash
Jolly / Inner Focus
252 Speed / 252 Attack / 6 HP
- Taunt
- Pursuit
- U-Turn
- Hypnosis

1. Bronzong (19359 leads)- Taunt or Hypnosis.
2. Gengar (14095 leads)- Taunt or Hypnosis or Pursuit if you predict a switch.
3. Gyarados (10937 leads)- Taunt or Hypnosis.
4. Tyranitar (9347 leads)- Hypnosis or U-Turn.
5. Azelf (9331 leads)- Taunt or Hypnosis or U-Turn or Pursuit if you predict a switch.
6. Salamence (7556 leads)- Taunt or Hypnosis.
7. Roserade (6331 leads)- Hypnosis.
8. Hippowdon (5772 leads)- Taunt or Hypnosis.
9. Ninjask (5664 leads)- Taunt.
10. Yanmega (5610 leads)- Hypnosis or if you predict a protect you can switch to another counter.

As you can see, with it's amazing speed it can possibly be the best lead out there, not to mention it's awesome ability Inner Focus which will prevent those Fake Out starters from ruining your fun. U-Turn may also be used for escape damage and to break starter sashs.

Sure you can mix up his moveset a little and maybe even his EVs, as he does have many extra options such as Nasty Plot + Air Slash etc. Let me know what you guys think.

- Renown

I run him as a lead on one of my teams and he has proven useful. Hypnosis & Taunt shuts down sleep talkers and Air Slash hit most switch ins for higher damage than AA. Wide lens guarantees a hit with Air Slash (95% acc.) and boosts Hypnosis a bit.

Is pursuit that useful? As most Pursuit targets are going to stay in and hit you with Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Psychic.....

I was thinking the same with pursuit, but there are gengars and such out there that may be afraid of hypnosis or taunt and switch immediately. Luckily he has a nice movepool, so pursuit may be changed to something else that you'd prefer such as roost or aerial ace (to take out Roserade).

Lum Berry Bronzong can stop his Hypnosis, but Taunt can probably shut him down.

Weavile, however, scares Crobat away since it can carry Ice Shard most of the time. Deoxys-e also scares it away with Ice Beam. Anything that isn't used to set up things that have a Lum Berry can also dent Crobat.

Overall, yes, Crobat is one of the better leads today, perhaps the best as you said. Just be wary of Hypnosis missing, which it does.

I like Absol better as a Magic Coater.

Absol @ Lum Berry
Super Luck(I think): Adamant
252 HP, 252 Attack, 4 Speed
Sucker Punch
Magic Coat
Snatch
Pursuit

It crys against T-Tar though.....

This does not belong in the RMT forum. I think you already know that, so why post it here? Also, not really that good of a lead. Switch in restalk Heatran, whoops sleep clause has been activated and you're on equal footing as you can't do anything to heatran and it can't do anything to you after a taunt.

ya thats nice and all, but after the lead poke switches out, you basically now have a 6-5 situation in favor of your opponent. That isn't something you probably want ;\

P.S. this would be better posted in Stark Mountain, not RMT

Don't most lead bronzongs pack lum berry? Also wouldn't a gyro ball hurt by bronzong? However, I can't say with certainty since I'm not that experienced yet =P

Magic coat does NOT send taunt back to the user.

Magic coat reflects
  • All moves that induce status as their only effect (including Yawn), except Teeter Dance
  • All moves that do no damage but alter the target's stats (including Flatter and Swagger), except Defog and Memento
  • Attract
  • Block
  • Gastro Acid
  • Leech Seed
  • Mean Look
  • Spider Web
  • Worry Seed
Look it up. Porygon2 is forced to predict, and crobat can safely U-turn if need be.

but... what about taunt?

Porygon2 @ Lum Berry
Modest Nature
252 HP/178 Defense/92 Special Defense
Trace
-Ice Beam
-Discharge
-Magic Coat
-Recover

If he taunts you, you Discharge or Ice Beam him and kill him. Lum Berry prevents sleep for a turn while you attack. If Magic Coat bounces back Taunt, then all the better, as it has +4 priority and may keep him from using Hypnosis.

Oh, and one more thing...Last I checked, Pursuit+Hypnosis Crobat is illegal.

At least, I made a team on Shoddy employing this lead, only to have the program say that Crobat is an illegal Pokemon. Yes, there are Pokemon that get Pursuit and Hypnosis, just not in Crobat's egg group.

The point being...Noctowl doesn't get Pursuit.

He may also be used to lure in an electric move for Electivire, as you U-Turn out of there. Just another thought.

I have personally seen to this set's effectiveness as a lead. As for the "what does it do later" comments, it has access to U-turn, which can in combination with Magnezone, Dugtrio or Wobbuffet be a vicious strategy.

It also has Hypnosis to induce sleep later in battle (in case the first Pokemon woke up), and can pursuit out any non lead Gengar, Azelf or Alakazam.

Taunt is itself an extremely powerful move, whether at the lead or not.

I don't believe in a "best lead" either, but this is certainly a very effective one.

I expect to see this as a Peer Edit soon. Get to work.

EDIT: However, if this set truly is illegal, then what I said above is obviously null.

I don't believe there is a 'best' lead because while a lead may be very effective on regular basis, some other leads may cripple it completely, making it unsuccessful and undependable at times. Regardless, there are some leads clearly better than others.

I personally prefer Bronzong to any other lead. With Stealth Rock and Hypnosis, paired with the respectable stats it posesses along with the excellent typing, Bronzong's more than capable of surviving an aray of attacks, even super effective Fire-type attacks. With access to Explosion, you can almost ensure an OHKO on the majority of opposition, which benifits your offensive team immensely if you're reducing their defensive core. Remember, that early Hypnosis and Stealth Rock puts even more pressure on the opponent. Lum Berry assures that status won't overthrow your attempt in setting up one of the most effective leads out there (opposing Gengar will recieve an unexpected OHKO from Gyro Ball). However, Lum Berry has caught on with most uses and is now a popular trend, so most Gengar leads tend to switch out anyway.

Err, I don't see why Pursuit needs to even be bothered with. U-Turn already punishes Pokes switching well enough. And why Sash it? A Poke with 85/80/80 defenses and a shitload of resistances can take a hit.

Yea, this set is illegal. Bat gets Hypnosis from Noctowl, which does not learn Pursuit. But even without Pursuit it seems like a very potent lead especially when made bulky.

Gengar is the best leader for me beacuse he is unpredictable and you almost guaranteed to sleep some onewhen he is a leader. And good movepool to.

Gengar@Life Orb
Timid
6 HP / 252 Satk - 252 Speed
Thunderbolt
Focus Blast
Shadow Ball
Hypnosis

This almost always works.

Correct me if I'm missing something, but if you are faster than most leads and probably not going to take a hit, due to you probably using hypnosis or u-turn, so why not just run wide lens or something over focus sash?

Oh and also that cool Lum Berry Tar beats this crobat ;)

I love this lead too. It's awesome. I use Leftovers though. And there's no "best lead". A good lead for me is a Pokemon that can handle common leads.
