muxtape

excellent
http://muxtape.com/ is a site that allows you to create your own playlists, share them, modify them, add songs, do whatever you can think of.

there are probably a lot of sites that allow you to have your own playlists, but this site is rather new, so i thought i'd give it a go! it turns out this is really fun to do, especially browsing through people's playlists only to find some songs you're familiar with.

why is this new? it's new because the intention is to get the "mix tape" concept and make it so that you can create your own mix tapes online.

http://norulz.muxtape.com/

this is mine, for example, by clicking it, you'll see the title which is currently under work as "test" cause honestly i just cant think of anything to put there.

you can have a max of 12 songs, I'm carefully deciding what to put on the list so it'll make a decent mix tape

pros:

* very easy registration, requires e-mail check;

* 12 songs might not seem like a lot but it actually is, it's supposed to be a mix tape simulator and back then you weren't gonna give your friends huge playlists now were you? of course not, they'd think you're jerk!

* you get to link you last.fm account so whatever playlist you listen to will be scrobbled on your last.fm account.

cons:

* it's kinda slow to upload the songs on it, but the buffering speed more than makes up for it, almost as soon as you click the song you wanna listen to, it starts without a problem;

* some songs might not upload either because the upload was discontinued or because the site can't handle the song, but this is a very rare scenario..

so, create your accounts, post them and discuss

Yeah, I went ahead and made a quick list myself.

It's pretty neat, yeah, the upload was pretty long, but there is hardly no start up time, and it's very conveniant. I like it so far.
Concerning the list, I'll make either add on to the current one or make a newer one or something.

It's cool.

Wow, considering I have no music on this computer at work, this could very well be my savior.

np: dredg - Stone By Stone

hmm this is groovy in a far out kind of way

i'll make a mix when i get back home, full of slow and sexy jams perfect for summer lovin

5 star mix for Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys alone.

lol, I keep getting timed out opening muxes. Their servers are getting bombarded.

yeah too many connections I guess...

I'm updating my mux right now.

edit: also on a side-note, last.fm just got a new look, looks great but its kinda awkward to navigate :$

now I have something new to listen to for a while thanks for bringing this to light norulz. I'll add mine later after I think about what to put on my mix for a while.

I think rather than a real mix, I'm just going to use my mux to put up my own music.

Aww, I made such a great mix, but then I realized that it only takes mp3's, and all the music on this computer has been bought of off itunes so I couldn't convert it.

So then I burned it onto a CD so that from there I could convert it, but then after converting it to mp3 and uploading it to the website, the page just went blank and got messed up :'( That's a shame, I was excited to use that lol

Despite my caption/description, I tried to make the transition of sounds flow pretty well song to song. It kept me from cramming a lot of different genres into it though, so it's not exactly a favorites playlist. I do think it's a pretty good mix though, with all good songs [at least at the very beginning and at the very end]

Not sure if everyone has been following this saga, but after getting shut down for more than a month by the RIAA, it came back yesterday with a message:

http://muxtape.com/

Fuck this shit. Seriously.

I've been visiting it regularly for hopes of an update, it says it'll be relaunching soon, hope "soon" actually means soon.

edit: So apparently after reading that wall of text i came to the conclusion that music labels and the RIAA are a bunch of assholes in suits, and that mux's whole "mix tape" idea is going to be scrapped and give place to a site that allows borderline unknown bands to embed their music, and set up a profile of their own, kinda like myspace, this was being worked on the beta, but was later scrapped out by choice.

They're reviving this concept which is not really new and will probably be unsuccessful. Guess Muxtape will never be the same.

I sent Justin an email two days ago. Got one right back early yesterday.

Thanks man, I'm thinking about a way to make just the playlists
available but I've been putting it off so I can focus all my energy on
the new site, but I'll post some information about it on our tumblr.
