The Safari Festival (Or, a personal attempt at a metagame)

No, I've just been at Houndours for 3 hours or so.
Only three? Remember, playing on two games, I was at it for about 24 hours on each, spread out over three days, before encountering a net total of one shiny since the last one... then there's the matter of catching before it flees...

Yeah, yeah. I have a life, remember? :P

But, I'm most likely going to do two games, Emerald and Leaf Green, once I beat Leaf Green, that is.

Oh, I ran a simulation. I made a program, that calculated a random number from 1 to 8,000. (Or whatever that shiny number was) It hit 27,000+ attempts before getting a shiny. o.o (I set shiny to 777)

Then, assuming that each Pokemon takes 10 seconds to encounter and run from, I calculated that it would take me about 59 hours.

Don't forget the "not paying attention to game" trick: for all Emerald Safari Zones (except 4), you can use the Acro Bike, and just hold down B while in grass until encountering a Pokemon. :D

Approximately, when do you guys expect to be doing this tournament?

I'd be interested in joining, but still have to get National Dex in my Diamond version in order to transfer stuff from Advance games. At 83 Pokémon currently, with 4 badges.

Also, I have access to Ranch, and could get those Pokémon that are in Safari Balls to clone and give to people. But not sure if their IVs are preset, or random.

Hopefully? Within the next two months. I'm thinking about 5 weeks from now, taking names and such, having two more weeks to prep, and then starting it.

The IVs are random, and I'm deciding against Ranch Pokemon, for the sake of catching your own from the 'Zones.

Yaaaaahhhh!!! Its going to be so fun!

Does Sychronize work in safarii zone?

Which makes Ruby and Sapphire far worse if you have Emerald, as nothing different would come of them, and has a far lesser selection of Pokemon that Emerald after the E4.

And FR/LG's just a pain in the rear for Kanto Pokemon. :(

Code:
OU: Blissey (maybe?), Breloom, Forretress, Gliscor, Gyarados, Heracross, Roserade, Scizor, Yanmega
Obviously, these pokemon are going to be abused a lot. Gyarados will really be abused, as it really only has one solid counter, and that is Slowbro. I can imagine that Gyarados / Scizor would be an effective strategy, as Scizor can pack some SpD EVs to come into Slowbro, and then U-turn, Pursuit, or X-Scissor the hell out of it. Heracross and Roserade also would work well, as they can come in and kill Slowbro with ease. IDK, I think Gyarados is going to be really scary. And with the lack of Hidden Powers, even Slowbro will have a lot of trouble beating Gyarados.
Code:
BL: Ambipom, Azumarill, Donphan, Exeggutor, Houndoom, Miltank, Pinsir, Rhyperior, Slowbro, Slowking, Staraptor, Tauros, Ursaring
Pinsir won't get any use at all, but Slowbro really should be OU. I mean, anyone not using it on their team is crazy in my opinion. With 18 Pokémon weak to fire, I can see Houndoom getting some solid usage. I'd really like using Staraptor; U-turn in such a condensed metagame like this is great, since there is less you need to find out about the opponent's team. Rhyperior really gets beat up with all the Grass and Water types.
Code:
NFE: Dragonair
:( Poor Dragonite.
Code:
UU: Ampharos, Arbok, Ariados, Bellossom, Bibarel, Carnivine, Dodrio, Drapion, Girafarig, Golduck, Golem, Granbull, Kangaskhan, Ledian, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Noctowl, Octillery, Parasect, Quagsire, Raichu, Scyther, Seaking, Sharpedo, Shuckle, Stantler, Sunflora, Swalot, Toxicroak, Venomoth, Vileplume, Whiscash, Xatu
Yea... These guys won't see much daylight. Toxicroak will, and Quagsire's Water Absorb will be useful, but other than that I can't see any of them impacting the metagame much at all.

I definitely want to get involved with this. :) Honestly this post is just me showing that I'm interested lol. Hopefully we can get a tournament organized in the Wi-Fi boards, since on Shoddy it defeats the purpose of it all.

Just a warning: I'm having trouble getting onto only Smogon (every other site works just fine) at home, so my set-up of this might be... delayed, as are all other activities I tend to do here (primarily art).

Hope the tech woes go away soon.

Updated the OP with the main concerns seen in this thread, that I want to draw more discussion to:

Some consider Gyarados to be too potent a sweeper after a Dragon Dance.
Some consider Blissey to be too strong a special wall, and overcentralizes the Special Wall category of the Safari Festival, not allowing other Pokemon to shine.
Some consider Heracross to be possibly too strong, despite losing Megahorn, yet to be discussed much.
Wobbuffet only has Destiny Bond, Counter, Mirror Coat, and Safeguard. Still, some consider Shadow Tag to be a worrysome ability.

I don't see any concern in any of them. So Blissey swarms the game. Get a fighting type. So gyarados swarms the game. Get a physical wall (forrtress anyone?) Seriously...heracross? Get a flying type.

Wobbuffet may be a slight problem, but without encore, it becomes hard to switch in and use.

Oh, and for the Blissey thing. You do realize that to get a blissey you have to find a chansey and catch it(very hard) with a good nature (very very hard). That may stray some people away from it. It sure strayed me away from it... No sychronize.

Alright. I'd like to try and get a tourney thread for the Safari Festival started on or about August 2nd. Any more discussion to be had, regarding... well, anything else?

Yeah, even though this thread kind of died. (D:)

First off, I don't see Blissey as a problem. Since I was catching things in the Safari Zone in my absence, (About 3 days total of straight catching) I found a total of about 15 Chanseys, all of which couldn't be caught and then fled. o.o

And, even if I did catch one, no guarantees on a decent nature, too.

Oh, Lorak. What rod do you use to get Dratinis? Super?

I was lucky, and caught one of a usable nature, during the time I spent trying to avenge the loss of the Exeggcute. And yeah, Super.
