I did my best, I have no regrets!

The Favourite Nintendo Console thread surprised me. I expected a landslide victory for the SNES but instead saw the N64 winning. I think a lot had to do with the average age of the forum, so I'd like to do a little research.

Also share your first experiences with gaming, how old you were when you started, and how old you are now.

I started gaming at age 4 on the Sega Genesis. My uncle was coming to Canada from Sri Lanka and was temporarily staying in Seattle. He called me and asked me what game system I wanted and I said "Super Nintendo". I don't know how I knew about the Super Nintendo, I just remember having that conversation over the phone with him. He said how about a "Sega" and I asked what that was. He said it was similar so I said okay. I went over and he gave me a Sega Genesis with Sonic the Hedgehog. It was later stolen and my parents got me the updated model for my birthday and I eventually got every Genesis Sonic game as I became a HUGE Sonic fan (side note: thanks for raping my childhood with the recent Sonic games Sega, I really appreciate it). I am now 20.

Console-wise, My purchase history is Genesis -> NES -> Genesis -> NES -> N64 -> GCN -> PS2 -> Wii > 360

Handhelds, Game Boy -> Game Gear -> Game Boy Color -> Game Boy Advance -> Nintendo DS -> DS Lite -> PSP

I didn't want to make the options too long so some aren't there. Ask if so. If you're like me and got an NES a year or so after the Genesis, you still put down Generation 4.

I don't play the favorites game when it comes to consoles, but I will say that I started out with the Gameboy Color when this new game called "Pokemon" came out. I begged and pleaded my mother to get me that pink gameboy with Pokemon Red in it, and I still own both of those to this day and play them occasionally. I was 5 years old at the time.

After that my sister (who is much older than me) bought me a Nintendo 64 with Banjo Kazooie and some other games that weren't as awesome. After that I was hooked as a gamer and that became my passion.

I'm now 15 and still a gamer!

Oh, and you might want to put where those of us who started with handhelds are as far as generations.

Yeah, I was basing this more on consoles. When you add handhelds, they go in a completely different time-frame and overlap differently as well. Just put in the console that was your first.

My dad bought me a Super Nintendo ate the age of 5 I still play it to this day. I have all the Nintendo consoles so I guess I'm a cross gen gamer.

My first console was an N64 which I got in 98, right at it's popularity peak.
I was about 6 at the time.

However, I expect another victory by Gen 5 followed by Gen 4.

First console I ever owned and played on was the commodore 64 or an atari at a really young age, I can't really remember.

After that I remember getting a Master System, followed by a Snes and Megadrive, Playstation and N64, Then a PS2 and GC and finally a Wii.

Handheld consoles I never got my first until Game Boy Colour with the introduction of Pokemon, but I did loan a Gameboy for about 6months prior to that. Since then I have had a GBA, GBASP, DS original x3 because Lites are for pussies with small hands.

I started gaming in the PS2/gamecube generation. I got a PS2 (my first console) for christmas when I was 10. I still play mainly PS2 as most of my favourite games are for that console.

I consider this a very arbitrary question: it's majorly based on when you're born.

NES for me. I was 3 years old.

SNES was my first console, it was actually my dad's. My first video game was speedy gonzales or some shit, Super Metroid was the first game I ever beat. I own the following:

SNES (somewhere in the attic, probably doesn't work anymore)
Gameboy Pocket (Tried to sell it to friends but nobody wanted it, the front screen broke off so it has no protective screen, but still works).
Gameboy Color (had to get it for crystal version :/)
N64
GBA SP (gave original GBA to a cousin after I got this, god the back light was so sexy)
Gamecube
DS lite (my mom started getting into brain age and dumb games like that so I gave her my old DS and bought myself a lite, fits in the pocket better anyways)
Wii

Of course I hardly play any of them anymore because I have a PC, the ultimate gaming medium.

By the way, isn't SUPER Mario bros. an SNES game?

stuff

By the way, isn't SUPER Mario bros. an SNES game?

Nooo, it's a NES game.

My first console was the Nintendo 64. I got for my birthday (Actually, I don't think it was my birthday but too embarrassing to say exactly what >_>) along with SM64 from my parents. It awesome and I played constantly, and my uncle bought me MK64. Then a barrage of other games over the course of a few years and I got a Gamecube (and PS2), when I kinda truly became a gamer.

I played video games before that, because my uncle was a bit of nerd and had an NES and SNES, which I played occasionally when I went to his house. My aunt eventually throw out the NES, and the SNES just died or something. ):

EDIT: Oh damn, didn't notice this was my 1,000th post. No kinda cool topic like last time 'cause I'm lazy. Maybe in another 1,000 posts. Congrats, me.

Well, my first console was a playstation, but I played the Sega MegaDrive (Genesis for you american farts) and the Saturn waaay before it in my cousin's place. SO I guess I belong to somewhere between gen 4 and 5.

Gen 4 for me. First console was the SNES back when I was 5. 15 years later and still going strong, since I own a PS3, Xbox360 and a Wii.

My first handheld was the old Gameboys, that could only display green (and dark green once the batteries were going flat) What memories... completing the Banana-coloured Donkey Kong cart <3

Also, this comment intrigued me...

:naughty:

For me it was the megadrive, I still remember playing sonic 1 and 2 for hours and getting sore thumbs =)

Sadly sonic is the only game I even remember for the megadrive, I dont if i even played any others. Playstation though, damn I have fond memories of that thing...bust-a-move, digimon world, tombi, rayman, spyro...the list goes on :3

Well my absolute earliest start was playing TLoZ and other various games (i vaguely remember playing Duck Hunt as a kid) on my Uncle's NES. I think SNES might have been out at that time (I was either 3 or 4 which would put it at 91-92) but I don't care because I'm old school like that.

I originally only had an original Gameboy, and played Tetris like mad, but my first console was a Playstation one. So I grew up on games like Crash Bandicoot and the Legend of Dragoon (wicked game). I Had FF7, but I was pretty young then, and it was really freaking hard, so I ended up hating that game. I still don't like it.

Yeah, I mentioned I had a psx and this was with I grew up too. Just recently I understood that Crash Team Racing is a gigantic Mario Kart rip-off, but it still manages to be my favorite racer in the PSX. Other notable games on the psx: Metal gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7/8/9, Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo, Colin McRae, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series, Digimon World, Syphon Filter, Dino Crisis.... oh my god the memories. The other day I was talking to people in #fluodome and I realized how much Canada and generally the US preferred the SNES and the N64, since almost no one had played these games I mentioned.

The NES was my first console. Although i got the chance to play other consoles and arcades at the time, the NES was really the first console i got to play.

At that time i was 6, games like Super Mario Bros. 3, duck hunt, Zelda and Mega Man 3 were my favorites. I was so excited every time my parents got a new game for me, even if it was a shitty one. I used to draw characters from these games, i even made all the mega man robot masters with plasticine.

I recall how everything was so different!, and this makes me sound old but without Internet magazines were the only source of information for what was new. I also bought games based on the cover, sounds pretty silly but back then there was no way to know if certain games were shitty or good.

The first console I owned was an N64 but I had played a Sega Genesis a few times at a friends house. I think I was about 6 years old when I got the N64, and am now 16.

I remember playing a few NES games here and there when I was really young, but the first game console I actually owned was a SNES.

I joined for the N64, eventhough I got it in like 2000 (or whenever DK64 came out). Of course, the GBC is what actually got me started on gaming. However, Majora's Mask and DK64 were the first full length games I played.

Well, my parents were incredibly against videogames throughout my childhood. I remember being sooo jealous of my friends and wanting to play them, but my parents (dad in particular) thought they were horrible.

I still remember my grandma giving me one of the original gameboys kinda behind my parents back. I was only 9 or 10 at the time and I only had one game (tetris) but I played it to death. Finally, a year or two later, I convinced them to get me a gameboy so I could play the ever-popular Pokemon game. It took forever, so when I got it GSC was already out and I started on the second generation.

I guess that was around Generation 5, but I didn't actually get a console until I was around 13, and it was a PS2. I really feel like I missed out on some of the gaming gold that came out before this. I am now 17 and viciously trying to make up for so much "lost time."

Generation 4 with the Super Nintendo. The 2 things I did the most in my childhood were playing with the SNES, or playing Pokemon Blue with my Gameboy Color.

Err, started with the NES at age 3.

Was a rare time in my life, where I could just stare at a game and not care how well I did ._.

I gained an N64 in 1997 on my third birthday, so yeah, I started then.

I feel so young.

My first game was Ocarina of Time, which is probably why i'm hooked to Zelda, and can't put one down when I start to play
