CAP 5 CAP 5 - Part 3 (Secondary Typing Poll 1)

I personally do NOT want a Rock/Dragon, because It would be the only non-Uber Dragon without a 4x Ice weakness, and it can even score Super-Effective Damage on an Ice type.

Kingdra takes neutral from Ice attacks. The other OU dragons can hit Ice types for SE with Fire Blast/Flamethrower. It won't matter if this one will be able to hit Ice types for SE along with STAB since only a small amount of the Ice attack users in OU are actually Ice type. And if this does end up being part Dragon, it's obviously not going to be a 600 stater so being over powered shouldn't be an issue.

Hm, I think I'll make a comparison supporting my decisions:
As a (possible) Sweeper, CAP5 wants to switch into things without dying. If it doesn't have amazing defensive stats, then it will have to rely on resistances. Lets take a look at some combinations:

Rock/Ghost has 6 weaknesses, and 6 resistances/immunities. Very good on resistances/immunities. Now, let's divide the number of resistances/immunities by the number of weaknesses:
6/6=1
The ratio of resistances/immunities is 1:1

Let's do Rock/Bug now:
2 resistances, 3 weaknesses
2/3= 2/3
the ratio is 2:3
Not as large as Rock/Ghost.

How about Rock/Dragon?:
5 resistances, 5 weaknesses
5/5= 1
So we have a ratio of 1:1

Rock/Flying:
6 resistances, 5 weaknesses
6/5=6/5
a ratio of 6:5

Rock/Bug has the lowest ratio of all the type combinations I listed.
Not only that, but the resistances it has (Normal, Poison) don't outweigh its weaknesses (Water, Rock, Steel) at all. Stealth Rocks weakness? No thanks.
I hope you take some of this into consideration when you vote.

1) No Secondary Type

I am 100% sure that any secondary typing will either outshine rock (unless we nerf it's moveset for no reason, which is stupid, since it is supposed to be a good sweeper, which means good special movepool) or provide an awful awful aaaawful type combination (hello Rock/Steel or Rock/Normal). I prefer to have a mono Rock type, since the lack of a solid STAB special move will increase the possibility of we creating a new move to fill in the gap, while the presence of a STAB move like...say...flamethrower will severely decrease said possibility.

2) Ghost

After rethinking my choices, I prefer to choose Ghost, since its STAB is also not all that good and a possible technician will make ancientpower + omnious wind an interesting combination sweeping.

Choice 1: Fighting
Choice 2: Normal

I would agree with a number of you that it would be easy for a rock theme to be overshadowed by a secondary typing, especially as far as looks are concerned.

However, I'd really like to see a quick special sweeping rock/fighting without close combat, as it would break molds of both typings and be very difficult to wall, as long as it could put blissey in her grave.

Hence, my second choice is basically a throwaway.

1. Fighting
2. No Secondary Typing

I've wanted to see a Rock/Fighting Pokemon for ages. Also, there are simply not enough pure Rock pokemon, so having one just that would be cool as well.

It's not that important, but Normal is missing on the resistances for Rock/Dragon on the OP. That makes the resistances/weaknesses ratio for Rock/Dragon 1:1, so you might want to change that in your post omgthatkid.

Choice 1: Ghost
I really like the typing here. It's the best way to stop Togekiss. Body Slam variants can't even paraflinch this combo. It also has the offensive typing to take Revenankh (shadow sneak would hurt though).

Choice 2: Flying
Not as good against Togekiss, better against Revenankh. A generally better attacking combo.

I personally do NOT want a Rock/Dragon, because It would be the only non-Uber Dragon without a 4x Ice weakness, and it can even score Super-Effective Damage on an Ice type.

Erm, most of the time, it's not Ice-types using Ice attacks. In OU the only three Ice-types are Mamoswine, Syclant, and Weavile, the first of which isn't even weak to rock attacks anyways.

1) Fighting
2) Ground

Fighting is, as far as I can see, the absolute perfect fit. It makes a great offensive combination with Rock and they have very similar molds (they both lack a fast special sweeper). The fact that we do already have one fighting type really doesn't matter since this is undoubtedly going to be very different from Revenankh.

Ground is basically a "next best" option after Fighting for the same reasons. Its stereotype is very close to that of Rock as well, so again, a fast special sweeper would make perfect sense. Like Fighting, it also has good offensive type synergy with Rock. Thunder Wave immunity is another nice plus point, as if Chomp gets the boot there'll be a bit of a vacuum for paralysis absorbers.

1. Flying
2. Ghost

Flying takes away the Fighting and Ground weaknesses and makes a good attacking type when paired with rock.

I changed my vote from Dragon to Ghost beause I realized that this Pokemon would probably just use Dragon, Fire, and Ground attacks and never actually use a Rock attack. Also, Rock and Ghost is only ressisted by Lucario and Magnezone in OU.

Choice 1: Normal
Choice 2: No Secondary Type

Aldaron's reasoning has made me post this. Since you all can't see his reason, I guess you can't see mine.

Choice 1: Ground
Choice 2: No secondary typing

In my opinion, considering how much better the bug, ghost and fighting special stab are (Bug Buzz, Shadow ball and Aura sphere/Vacuum wave), than the rock stab, I think we should steer away from them.

weavile has very few resistances and is still used as a physcal sweeper
I realize that.
However, Weavile is weak to priority moves, and with enough power, they can OHKO him.
Not only that, but Weavile is more of a revenge killer than an outright sweeper because of his low defense stats and typing that provides few to no useful resistances.

Choice 1: Fight
Choice 2: Ground

For the secondary type to stick with the concept, we need to choose a type that has a similar 'mold' as rock. In this case, the mold seems to be slow, bulky, physical. Fighting and Ground are two types that I think fit with this mold as well, so that if we, for example, make this guy fast, frail, special, we truly are breaking the mold. CAP is, after all, now based on the concept that we the community selected.
Brilliantly said Darkie... but I don't want another Rock Ground
Choice 1: Fight
Choice 2: No secondary typing

Fighting
Steel

Fighting because it has VERY similar "stereotypes" to Rock.
Steel because I needed a second vote that I knew was not going to win.

1. Bug
2. No secondary typing

Bug/Rock is already a rather rare typing, and although there aren't many resistances as some of the others, there's still other options besides pure special sweeper, as the idea is just breaking the mold. Pure rock is fine too.

1. No secondary typing
2. Normal

I do not want any secondary type. If we have to have a secondary type, I do not want it to overshadow Rock as the primary attacking STAB. If we go Fighting or Flying, I fear it will do just that. So I went with Normal, because it won't steal limelight from Rock, while still being useful in certain situations.
