Skymin Discussion Thread

Keep in mind, this is local direct connection ONLY.
So the same basic thing we've been emulating with netbattle and other such programs since Red/Blue? If so then I fail to see the problem, whether or not Skymin is playable over wifi seems utterly irrelevant to me.

Now on the subject of regular Shaymin... it is possible for one player to be using Shaymin while facing an opponent who is using Skymin, correct?

Yes, as long as it's platinum vs. platinum, you can use either form of Shaymin. I haven't tested with the other pokemon, but I'm 99% sure it works the same exact way.

There must be a way to use it on Wi-Fi that they haven't announced yet. I don't see any logic in allowing it for local wireless battles, but not Wi-Fi battles.

If skymin gets frozen in battle, will it revert to shaymin and change stats and abilities? Then serene grace ice beam would help against it, if it doesn't kill it.

The "logic" would be that some lazy programmer doesn't have to figure out a way for the game to decide if it's playing another copy of Platinum or one of Diamond/Pearl and adjust your alternate forms accordingly, but rather just leave them out of any place in the game where you could possibly interact with an older game altogether.

That doesn't seem game freak-like. And if it can tell if it's another platinum local why cant it when it's wifi? shouldn't be the same?

Registeel may be a decent counter since it has access to Ice Punch. A -2 drop in SpD may be troublesome, but seeing what else is out there, it seems like it would be one of the better options. It's difficult because not only can it severely drop your SpD, but it can also chain flinches until your opponent has enough HP for you to finish them off. That's where Blissey will be useless.
By that paragraph, you are referring to Blissey in terms of SpDef drops because Registeel has Clear Body.

By the way, are you http://www.youtube.com/user/kevingarrett1234 ?

Jiba, do you know when this will be implemented? I hope it gets tested; same with Salamence.
I don't know but if I were to take a guess it would be after everything in Platinum (move tutor stuff) is discovered. I myself do not know when they will implement these on Shoddy.

Yes, Blissey is definitely not on the top of the list for handling Skymin. It all depends on what set will be the most effective, which can't be determined until Skymin is play tested. But either way you look at it, Blissey isn't a good option (whether Skymin is using a SubSeed or offensive set).

That's me. I haven't updated my channel in a while because I've just been sticking with Shoddy.

I'd love it if Shaymin got Icy Wind, but that's even more out there than it getting Earth Power.

Ahaha, someone just posted in the Tutor thread that Land Form gets Earth Power. Another reason to add to the "Skymin will be uber" pile...

Yes, just confirming that I DID check and Shaymin gets Earth Power.

EDIT:

Sky Shaymin: Mud Slap, Seed Bomb,Air Cutter, Ominous Wind, Snore, Synthesis, Last Resort, Swift, Zen Headbutt
Land Shaymin: Mud Slap, Seed Bomb, Endeavor, Earth Power, Snore, Synthesis, Last Resort, Swift, Zen Headbutt

Welp, there goes Registeel as a reliable counter.

Which leaves us... Regice.

Specs Seed Flare on 252/0 +SDef Regice:

39-46%.

Looks like SkyTran for the win, unless Regice somehow learns Earth Power now. I don't think EQ OHKOs.

Specs Earth Power on 252/136 +Sdef Registeel: 46-54% This is not cool.

Ok we all know and exept that blissey is the no one special wall in the game right?

So a fair way to see how uber shaymin sky form is is to pin him up against her.

so hear is the data choice specs shaymin with a modest nature

minium special defence blissey

damage against blissey on a switch in
min-237 max-279
damage against against blissey after seed flares sp defence drop
min-473 max-556

so the best special wall in the game has about between 70 and 80% chance of 2 koing shaymin chance of being owned by shaymin sky.

max special defence blissey

damage against blissey in switch in
max-179 max-211
damage against blissey after deed flares sp defence drop
min 357 max-420

blissey survies but only just and shaymin dies from ice.

Now this really dose put a dent in the best special wall in the game.

pros and cons to shaymin sky

pros-seed flare stab ruins special walls and reveng killing shaymin is the only real way to kill shaymin and even then a switch out solves this.
air slash- makes shaymin have a stab move with 60% chance of a flinch so basically its a beter tokiss with all that lovely speed.
earth power from land form- heatran the oviouys counter is raped by this and even with choice scarf with out a speed boosting nature he can not out speed modest shaymin with speed ivs
base 120 special attack attack and 127speed make him great for special attacking

cons
ice shard from wevile raps him through I could not think why he would stay in on a weavile
his defences are poor at a measly base 75 each
stealth rock takes that 25% shunk of his hp
bronzog walls him and threatens hypnosis through at 60% acuracy its not relible.
regice is an awsome counter as that 2X drop in special defence dose not phase him when fighting shaymin only

I think shaymin could fit into ou, but seedflare and an improved move pool to take on his old counter heatran reallty put me off saying that.

8D ICE SHARD RAP FTW.
kidding.
I did a damage calc. IIRC, Ice Shard was a OHKO only with Stealth Rock. I think. I may check again.

non item holding wevile dose about 345 minium to shaymin non yanche andwith life orb against a shaymin with a yanche its 228minium and 261 minium with choice band.

This might be the first time ever that Blissey isn't the best special wall. Regice and Registeel ignore Seed Flare drops so the credit goes to them in this case.

So what would be the best HP for this guy? Fire?

I'd definitely go with Ice for Dragonite. There isn't really anything hit hardest by HP Fire that could otherwise counter him. Possibly good for SD/Bullet Punch Scizor but then again it can't really switch in on Air Slash, or even Seed Flare because of the special defense drop.

Still kind of a toss-up, really. Fire allows coverage against Skarmory, while Ice lets you hit Salamence super effective. Personally I'd go with Ice.

Edit: No wait, definitely Ice. I forgot Air Slash can't even flinch Dragonite.

Ice is nice for Light Screen Dragonite and Zapdos, but Zapdos can be 2HKOed with prior damage + Stealth Rock damage, so it is really only useful for Dragonite. Meanwhile, HP Ground actually allows you to hurt Registeel and Metagross, while also OHKOing Magnezone and Heatran without relying on special defense drops/flinches. HP Fire should be useful for Skarmory, who can phaze away the subseeders, too bad Choice Specs Air Slash can do up to 41% to 252 HP / 0 SpD Skarmory.

I really don't see how HP Ground wasn't being discussed as the most useful... you are giving Heatran even more reason to switch in, on top of the fact that Garchomp is banned...

Ground or Ice seem to be the most useful IMO.

This thing is gonna be tough to kill. Those defensive stats are deceptive, and the HP is the important thing here. We won't be able to kill it with Pursuit like we can with Gengar.
