New and "creative" moveset/EV spread thread "Mark 2"

And how do you suppose I do that? Life Orb recoil will show your opponent that you are running mixed or SD Luke, so unless you are battling a vegetable, I am pretty sure most people will notice these things.

Yet another thing the new Rotom forms can easily counter...

Its still a powerful option none-the-less

Especially for walls like Scarm...

Hmmm... maybe I should change the description

I'll list that as an option, but Life Orb is probably better because this set has god-awful coverage

I with there was a tier that you could use any pokemon you want, but only non-serious movesets, now that would be interesting :p

oh lol

I didn't notice which set it was, I thought it was another one of them mixlukes

Anyways folks, I'm running more damage calculations to see if Life Orb is worth the trouble on Flygon :/

EDIT: Here are some noteworthy milestones you can get with the Life Orb:

-By increasing the attack stat to 246, you can do 53% minimum to Celebi.
-252 HP Metagross is guarenteed 2HKOed.
-252 HP Tentacruel is OHKOed.
-252 HP Machamp is 2HKOed

other than that, there is no advantage to using Life Orb and extra attack EVs.

Offensive umbreon

Alright... so with the advent of Platinum, a variety of new moves become available for many different pokes. With this comes the return of a set I've been fond of for some time: the psuedo-offensive tank-umbreon. Sucker punch as a tutorable move in Platinum is what reinspired me to do this. (Note: I'm not including the speed stat because here, it's moderately negligible.)

dpmba197.png

  • Name/description: Offensive Umbreon.
  • Nature: Sassy. (+Sdef, -Sp)
  • Stats:
    • Evs: 176 atk, 252 hp, 30 sdef.
    • Unboosted Stats: 394 hp, 210 atk, 256 def, 347 sdef
    • Boosted Stats (+2): 394 hp, 420 atk, 512 def, 347 sdef
  • Item: Leftovers/Lum-berry (I use lefties.)
  • Moves:
    • Sucker Punch/Payback.
    • Taunt
    • Moonlight
    • Curse
  • Tactical breakdown:
    • You bring umbreon in against some physical wall. (Read as: Skarmory.) You use taunt to force a wasted turn. You then react as nessecary. The next turn, you curse up. The turn after that, taunting or cursing is up to you. Once you've got two curses under your belt, your options/tactics go as follows:
      • You can start sucker-punching things that are trying to kill you. You will go first, and thanks to stab, you're getting 120 basebower. (If you're using payback, you're getting a hyperbeam equivalent that goes last, but the contingency that the opponent attacks still remains.)
      • You can curse more. (Not reccomended, as you're unlikely to survive a physical crit. Special crits are reasonable, but unsafe.)
      • Moonlight is nice for healing.
      • Taunting is always good if you fear being set up on or p-hazed.
  • Potential problems/solutions, aside from the "LOLUMBREON" issue:
    • Mono-Type attack. You'll dislike going up against fighting or steel types.
    • Weather. Not only do hail and sandstorm make you lose hp every turn, they also halve your ability to heal yourself.
    • Critical hits; as with any def-stat-boost-set, crits suck.
    • Status effects: Lum berry would be for this purpose. Elsewise, you've got nothing bar synchronize. The good side is that paralysis doesn't really effect this one too much... Speed is negligible here.
    • Walls: Hopefully you've dealt with a few of your opponent's walls before sending this goof out.
    • Fighting types: a couple curses under your belt and you're moderately safe; before then, they hurt.
    • Kakuna's new STAB Bug Bite really hurts. (That... was just a silly one.)
I'm curious to see what others think of this set, and am equally curious as to any suggestions people have for it. I love umbreon, and I ADORE its ability to pass mean-looks. That being said, it's fun to have surprise novelty sets too. I like my novelties to be as effective as possible, though, as it makes them even more novel.

Meh, the Umbreon set is already in the Analysis, with the exception of Sucker Punch.

This

Fighting types: a couple curses under your belt and you're moderately safe; before then, they hurt.
is also the thing that will always prevent cursing Umbreon from working well. Every team nowadays has a good fighting type around... Choice Band Heracross still has a good chance of OHKOing you after a Curse, Swords Dance Lucario will happily stat up or 2HKO (Depending on what you do) with its 4x resistance... Curselax has enough trouble already, Umbreon with it's sub-par attack and attacking type just will not work.

Not to mention that everyone and their mother can learn Superpower now.

That Flygon set and spread is gravy. I might steal that. ^^

I updated the Flygon set again. Here is a link to the individual post. I now reccomend Toxic over Dragon Claw, it has saved me so many times when Flygon is my last pokemon : o

Bulky Flygon

um.... not sure if anyone suggested this yet, im thinking about a bulky slacking, not sure if it may work, since most player switch when slacking show up, i think it is kind of wasting that speed evs, so if you put all the speed ev into def, it can switch in easier, especially slacking is one of those pokemon that comes in and switch out, so i propose;
slacking
adament
4hp/252att/252def/
earthquake
focus punch
return
shadow claw
this is a random set i thought about, please give me some feed back

Reviving my old idea of mixed Fearow, thanks to Platinum move tutors.
Fearow
Mild
@Life Orb
252Sp.Atk/55 Atk/200 Speed
Drill Peck
Return/Pursuit/Faint Attack/Steel Wing/U-Turn
Tri-Attack
Heat Wave

This set screws over almost any Steel-type it comes across, with the exception of Empoleon.

OR...

Fearow
Modest
@Choice Specs
252Sp.Atk/252 Speed
Hidden Power (Flying)
Ominous Wind
Tri-Attack
Heat Wave

364 Sp.Atk w/Specs. Not the world's best, but thanks to Platinum, it's POSSIBLE! Plus, the possibility of stat boosts w/Ominous Wind. HP Flying and Tri-Attack for STAB, and Heat Wave to screw over Steel-types.

Out of curiousity regarding the umbreon set, then...

When was it added to the analysis?

I ask because I was present on a different, now defunct account during a discussion about Off-Umber sometime previously, going under the name Ikaeru. (It was a hotmail based account, and I was unable to receive my password after having lost it.) I was just curious if that discussion is what spawned the addition to the analysis.

No it wasn't. You can stop worrying.

Thank you! =3

Alright, moving on to more of my spontaneous goofiness, then, a mild variation, with less analysis, as I've thought less about this set:
dpmba462.png

  • Sitrus-Magnezone
  • Item: Sitrus Berry
  • Evs: 252 hp, 102 satk, 20 def, 136 sdef,
  • Final Stats: 344 hp, 176 atk, 270 def 271 sdef, 140 sp.
  • Personality: Sassy
  • Moves:
    • Explosion
    • Discharge
    • HP Ice
    • Recycle.
  • Concept: Standard idea of magnezone, stats distributed to be a "blanket switch-in" for everything... except physical attackers, which essentially, all get firepunch now (Or earthquake then. (I still need to rethink the investment in def. since physicals will kill magnezone. ANYWAY.) The concept goes: recycle+Sitrus berry= decent recovery move for such a nice tank. Discharge because I like paralysis.
Opinions?

Oh, oh, and regarding the second fearow set. You mention that "potential stat boosts from ominous wind." You won't be able to enjoy the tasty stat boost because you're choice-spec'd. You get a stat boost... and then they pull out a normal type. Whoo.

The first one... just doesn't have the power or speed to do anything. Let's assume someone pulls out a tyranitar, or a weavile, or any moderately decent pursuit carrier. Unfortunately, the damage just doesn't stack up, even if you a hit in on the switchin, fearow is incapable of doing enough damage to really anything to kill it, even if it's a steel type (I'll adress that later.). Meaning that you either are forced to switch, giving your opponent a free hit from something powerful... or you get pursuited. (You'd do, what, 1/6 of steelix's hp with that set?) I'm sorry, but it's just not feasible. In lower tiers, many things outspeed it, do enough to ohko it, and take almost no damage from it.

Porygon2 @ Chesto Berry
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
Trait: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 Sp. Atk
- Recycle
- Rest
- Discharge
- Ice Beam

What, like that?

Wondering what you guys this of this set..

Drifblim
Calm
Aftermath
Leftovers
28 HP / 230 Def / 252 SpDef
-Icy Wind
-Destiny Bond
-Thunderwave / Will-o-Wisp / Knock Off
-Thunderwave / Will-o-Wisp / Knock Off

(Theorymonning) Who said Annoyers are dead? Bring her in on something that is either going to switch out, or wont do significant damage, Icy Wind on their switch out, then proceed with whichever of the 2 annoying moves you choose, Destiny Bond is kinda a final resort type thing for when Driffy is rather low on Health.

Trick could be an option, give her Choice Scarf and use it on something you know is carrying leftovers.

EVS: HP is to hit a even Leftovers number (28 per turn), then i put the rest into the defenses sto lower percent of damage taken. Doesnt need speed because it still hits 196, which if iirc, will outspeed most anything that isnt boosted after they take an Icy Wind so that you can status or Destiny Bond to your hearts content..

as a side note, Salamence that isnt too bulky is 2HKOd, as is Non bulky Dragonites with SR out.

Please note that its 1 in the morning, and I was pondering this throughout the day at work so it isnt perfect, just a rough draft =)

Anyone?!

Vivi, a solid pokemon with a bunch of solid annoyance options. Not much to say really.

By the way, someone posted essentially the same set in the UBER discussion for dialga, but I thought this would be a very interesting option for UU's Altaria:

Altaria:
Careful
@Leftovers
252 HP / 200 DEF / 56SpD
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Sleep Talk
-Rest

Just using the standard Evs/Nature for Bulky Altaria, but here we have Outrage abuse. If Sleep Talk picks Outrage, you don't get locked into the move (very cool) and Dragon Dance will gradually beef up your offenses. You're also running Natural Cure-Rest which is always fun.

Actually Chou...that sounds awesome.

The one problem I see is that overwhelming amount of steel types coming your way. However one remedy would be Magneton (if and only if, they start allowing all kinds of NFEs in UU). It would be a great combo especially because steels wouldn't be throwing out EQs as the flying type Altaria, allowing Magneton to do it's thing.

I guess even if Magneton isn't allowed, Probopass could try and do the deed as well.

I wonder if a Salamence/Magneton combo wouldn't work similarly in OU?

^apart from the standard ddroost "bulky dder" defensive roost toxic flamethrower draco meteor mence is super cool too r-R

I was mostly meaning (yet not really saying -_-) that even without Intimidate, why couldnt Dragonite do the same thing, but better? Less speed doesnt seem too important, seeing as your still relying on getting lucky with STing a couple DDs, meanwhile Nite is holding up against attacks quite a bit better.
