First off, I'd like to stress the fact that I am fairly new to competitive battling (I didn't even know what EVs were all about until a week ago), and even so I tried to make a team that was more fun for me than what would really be the best thing to make. That being said, I've attempted a mostly offense-based team designed to hit hard and do as much damage before it is returned. So, here it goes, I guess...:
Yanmega / "Meganeura"
6 HP/ 252 SP. ATK / 252 SPD
Speed Boost / Wide Lens / Timid
- Bug Buzz
- Air Slash
- Hypnosis
- Detect
I’ve always thought Bug-types were the most underrated of the lot, so when I saw Yanmega had the highest special attack out of all of them, I wanted to try it out. Now so far, and this is true for all of the Pokémon on my team, Yanmega is only hypothetical and I haven’t actually used it before. This is more or less the planned blueprint for my team. Anyway, Detect builds up Speed Boosts, and then Hypnosis disables the opponent while Bug Buzz and Air Slash sweep away. I used the Wide Lens for increased accuracy on Hypnosis.
EDIT: Decided on a Timid nature instead of Modest.
Blaziken / "El Pollo"
6 HP / 252 ATK / 252 SPD
Blaze / Expert Belt / Jolly
- Flare Blitz
- Sky Uppercut
- Earthquake
- Thunder Punch
Blaziken was the first Pokémon I decided on when building my new team. First off, I’m not going to use Infernape simply because I have a personal preference to this guy. Besides, what Blaziken doesn’t have in speed, it makes up for in attack. This move set can cover a lot of types, although I’m debating whether I should switch Earthquake for something better suited for some of the remaining threats. Note that I intend to switch Sky Uppercut for Superpower when Platinum becomes available. Thunderpunch is from Emerald.
Gengar / "Phantom"
6 HP/ 252 SP. ATK / 252 SPD
Levitate / Focus Sash / Mild
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Thunderbolt
- Energy Ball
Gengar is probably my most versatile sweeper. I used Sludge Bomb instead of Thunderbolt because otherwise Gengar can’t really deal with Grass-types as effectively. I went with Energy Ball as well, but I might end up switching that for Thunderbolt if it ends up being better. Psychic is always great. The Focus Sash is there because Gengar can’t really take a hit at all.
EDIT: Thunderbolt is there, Psychic is not.
Magnezone / "Drone"
6 HP/ 252 SP. ATK / 252 SPD
Magnet Pull / Choice Scarf / Modest
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Explosion
I’ve always had trouble making move sets for Electric-types because they never have much to work with, but I went with this guy for the great resistances it has. Magnet Rise to start, and then sweep with whatever. Flash Cannon is going to be used for part-Rock-types like Rhyperior, or just anything Thunderbolt can’t hit. Note that I intend to have Signal Beam when Platinum becomes available, instead of Hidden Power.
EDIT: Switched to 6 HP/ 252 SP. ATK / 252 SPD, and switched Magnet Rise for Explosion.
Tyranitar / "Gerudo"
60 HP/ 252 ATK / 198 SPD
Sand Stream / Life Orb / Adamant
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
Well I was going to use Garchomp, but, well…. I’d probably only bring this guy in late game, and may even switch altogether for something more useful. I don’t know about Aerial Ace, since Tyranitar is really too slow to deal with most Fighting-types, but then again that’s what the Chople Berry is for. Dragon Dance instead of Crunch, maybe? The other attacks are pretty standard.
EDIT: Ok, now it has a Life Orb and Dragon Dance instead of Aerial Ace. Rawr.
Milotic / "Virga"
252 HP/ 6 SP. ATK / 252 SP. DEF
Marvel Scale / Leftovers / Calm
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Mirror Coat
- Recover
Aside from being a friggen pain to get, Milotic is my one defensive Pokémon. Before I got interested in playing competitively, I used to use a Suicune. But once I realized it was pretty much impossible to get one with the right nature, I went with Milotic. Recover and Leftovers help it live longer, and Mirror Coat can be used against special sweepers. Physical attackers are more of a problem; I’ll probably just end up switching out for something else on my team. Or perhaps Toxic will serve me better, and save me the trouble of breeding for Mirror Coat. At least it makes a pretty good special wall.
Better nickname suggestions welcome too.. :D
Yanmega / "Meganeura"

6 HP/ 252 SP. ATK / 252 SPD
Speed Boost / Wide Lens / Timid
- Bug Buzz
- Air Slash
- Hypnosis
