This is the first time I have ever made a competitive team. I have never EV trained or made use of Hidden Power. It is all pretty new to me. I am currently a Freshman at college with only a DS and 1 game for "free time". So I am playing the hell out of it. I would really appreciate help that will provide synergy among this team. The only thing I would like to say regarding comments is I will not take out anybody on this team but Empoleon. I really like the Pokes I picked: They are my favorites. I really hate looking on this site and everybody has the same damn ones. I'm not battling for money, therefore I am not Cookie Cutting Salamence and Heatran's. I am also not very fond of legendaries. I just want help with movesets that work together and maybe a poke for the 6th slot.

Thank you so much.

DeadBolt@Choice Specs
[Modest]
252 SPA/176 SPE/40 HP/40 DEF
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power{Ice}
Shadow Ball
Baton Pass

Can absorb Electric Attacks along with Flygon. My ace I guess. Can Quickly come in and Finish. Hidden Power {Ice} hurts Ground and Grass. My lead.

dpmfa197.png

Ravage@Life Orb
[Modest]
252 SPA/200 SPE/56 DEF
Dark Pulse
Hidden Power{Fighting}
Toxic
Fake Tears

I have really like having a unique Umbreon. He is EV'd/along with nature and Life Orb to be a Offensive Special Tank. Hidden Power {Fighting} is to take care of Dark and Steel, which Dark is Weak against. Toxic is for support and Fake Tears serves as further boost to Umbreon's weak SPA and to cause switches for Stealth Rock and Spikes.

dpmfa227.png

BlitzBeak@Leftovers
[Jolly]
252 HP/200 SPE/56 ATK
Spikes
Whirlwind
Roost
Brave Bird

I guess this is pretty much the Standard for Skarmory.

dpmfa214.png

MotorHead@Wide Lens
[Jolly]
252 ATK/252 SPE/6 SPD
Close Combat
Megahorn
Stone Edge
Swords Dance

I guess this is pretty much the standard for Heracross. Only difference is the hold item in which I gave him Wide Lens. It makes me feel better attempting Stone Edge and Megahorn.

dpmfa330.png

Izzy@Life Orb
[Jolly]
252 ATK/176 HP/80 SPE
Earthquake
Draco Meteor
U-Turn
Roost

Flygon can switch in to various attacks and provide adaquate sweeping.

Scraptnal@Leftovers
[Timid]
252 SPE/176 SPD/80 DEF
Surf
Ice Beam
Roar
Stealth Rock

Originally this slot was held by Dragonite and switched recently. I like his resistances and abilities to switch in to almost anything. He is my second Skarmory basically.

Welcome to smogon!

Will, as far as I can see, the choice of pokemon put together is not so bad. Unfortunately, however, you choice of natures and EVes are not good. Not at all.

First of all, why are you running this EV spread on jolteon? Jolteonm can't take hits will, and is not designed to. Use something like 4 hp/252 sp.att/252 spe, with a timid nature. Also, drop shadow ball and use sub over it.

Umbreon was never, ever whatsoever created to to be an attackeer. It was always and will always be a supportor. Use this set:

Careful @leftovers
252 HP / 92 SpD / 164 Spe
~ Wish
~ Payback
~ Taunt / Protect
~ Toxic / Yawn

More info here. This set provides you with some wish support, along with a statusing move, something your team lacks. You can also toxic and whirlwind with skarmory, getting some damage with spikes/SR.

Skarmoyr has a standard choice of moves, but no standard nature/EVs.
Go with 252 HP / 96 Atk / 156 Def / 4 Spe - impish nature. You don't need almost speed on skarm. This is much more standard. You can also use Stealh Rocks over spikes, since they are usually easier to set up. Your choice though.

Heracross is pretty much good, although a choice item is usually better. Choice band gives you more power, while choice scarf gives a kick of speed. If you pick choice scarf, go with an adamant nature, otherwise stay jolly.

With flygon, how about going with a naive nature and an ev spread of 252 att/40 Sp.att/216 speed? It gives you more speed and an extra kick for draco meteor.

You can make empoleon a special tank. Here:

Modest @leftovers
252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Grass Knot / Stealth Rock
~ Roar / Yawn

Go with Grass knot if you chose SR on skarm.
Use Yawn, since you have skarm to phaze, unless you're using yawn with umbreon, where you can use SR and grass knot here.

In this post I gave you some ways that you can use to 'enhance' your pokes. I haven't, however, gave you 'switches' of pokemon you can make. This team has some problems with some scarftrans. You better make some of your pokes fast enough (such as giving heracross a scarf) to quickly deal with it. Unfortunately, nothing can safely switch to it.

I would agree with Amre, your EV spreads do seem a little strange and it would help your team alot if you tried out his suggestions. I have to reiterate his point, however, that Umbreon should never be an attacker of any kind, but more of a Wall/Utility/Batonpasser. I run two umbreons, one with Curse/Baton Pass/Payback/Wish for my trick room team, and another with Taunt/Payback/Mean Look/Baton Pass for trapping certain pokes. Both work well in their own ways, but I can see the Mean Look working better with yours, since you don't have a good receiver for Curse.

Also, on the Jolteon, I would advise for you to drop Shadowball in favor of Substitute and giving it a petaya berry over a choice specs. Sub down and activate the berry, and then sweep, or baton pass off to something that would appreciate the +SpAtk boost. You can also pass subs off to your other pokes, which can be extremely useful if you want to set up.

You definitely want to have a choice scarf to make the best of Heracross. Megahorn and Stone Edge don't hit all the time, but they are still fairly accurate. Wide lens is more of an item for someone that knows Hypnosis or Will-o-wisp.

You got me wrong my friend. I didn't say of any kind. All I said was that it can't be an all out attacker. You can see that he uses a life orb modest one.
Also, aren't your umbreon both some form of supporter/utility? The first passes attacks/defense boosts, and is especially good for passing wish. Isn't that support? The other one has taunt, mean look, and baton pass. Taunt provides some support, while mean look provides some utility. Isn't that some form of support?
Perhaps you understood that i'm saying 'you should never use an attack on umbreon'? All what I said was that it's bad way to use umbreon as an 'all-out attacker'. Anyways, I'll edit my post and make it more clear. Thanks for pointing this out ;)

I would look up the individual Pokemon descriptions (type the Pokemon name in search.) You are clearly new to this and need to learn before engaging in battles. Otherwise, you will fail to know what to expect and to do, and lose many games.

Calm @leftovers
252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam / Grass Knot
~ Stealth Rock
~ Roar / Yawn

Other changes to your pokemon have been recommended. But Calm on Empoleon because he is a wall, not a sweeper.

Agreed. Much of your pokemon will need to be changed.

Try Blissey instead of Empoleon, who can easily wall Scarf Heatran (and you have the infamous SkarmBliss combo). Jolteon is not a suitable lead pokemon due to failing against too many walls - Bronzong sleeps you and sets up SR (Stealth Rock), Tar walls you, Hippo sets up SR, Azelf sets up SR etc. Try this lead:
Azelf - Jolly - Choice Scarf
Trick
SR
Explosion
Zen Headbutt / U-turn
252 Att., 252 Speed, 4 Hlth

This lead will give you an insight to battling. Trick your Scarf on an opponent like Bronzong or Blissey, ruining much of its effectiveness, then set up SR (meaning you don't need Empoleon for SR). Explosion is a OHKO on most pokemon. Zen Headbutt is for STAB with flinch. U-turn is to swap out as an Azelf counter swaps in e.g. Metagross.

But look up the descriptions, otherwise you will still lack important knowledge. Afterwards, you might want to look at the forums for some extra insight.

Thank you very much for all of your suggestions thus far. I have made the EV changes to the mentioned pokes.

I will consider switching maybe Flygon for Blissey.
As regards to Azelf, I have mentioned I hate using legendaries. Would there be any advise on turning what I already have into leads, or recommending other possible leads that work well.

Thanks again

Well-i have used a Jolteon lead that works somewhat-it provides Para support and decent coverage::
Timid Jolteon @ Life Orb
6 Hp/252 SpA/252 Spe
-Discharge (Quick Paralysis on switch ins)
-Hidden Power Grass/Ice (Grass for SpD oriented Swamperts-with Life Orb will do around 89-110%)
-Shadow Ball
-Substitute (Prevents Bronzong from sleeping you, as you did mention darknessmalice)

I have made a new thread based on the suggestions for this one. Thank you again for the help. I hope the changes I made successfully blended what I want and what is needed.

You need not create another thread for your new team, all you have to do is edit the team on this thread(Taylor locked the other thread anyways).

looks good but consider using timid so you can outspeed stuff like timid starmie and jolly weavile

looks interesting but i would have to see it in action before i can judge well i really would work

the moveset looks fine but the nature and evs look a little wierd try impish nature and 252hp/252def/4 spe skarmorys purpose is to take hits not to outspeed stuff

dpmfa214.png

MotorHead@Wide Lens

consider flame orb and facade over wide lens and stone edge. flame orb will activate guts and give all your moves a 1.5x boost and facade works very well with it and allows you to OHKO stuff like gliscor and weezing.
with megahorn as your only not 100% accurate move wide lens is less needed
