Rate My (Potential) Team

First off, before we even get started on this, I would just like to say that my team is not set in stone yet. I've got a bunch of Pokemon I've been throwing around in my 6 man rotation and I don't know what combination is best suited for a competitive team. I've been battling my friends with a bunch of combinations and finding out which ones succeed greater than others. Also, these Pokemon are not Level 100 yet, they're only around level 60 because I don't know what direction I want to go with them yet. I would like to have the expert opinions on which Pokemon I should put in my team and which ones I should leave out, or if I should add new Pokemon to this team to improve the team as a whole. Also I know that the items and natures of most of these Pokemon are not the ones I want, but I just want to get the Pokemon types and the movesets down pact before I start breeding for EVs and Natures as well as start grinding for items. So with all that said, here are the lucky bachelors:

dpmfa373.png
Salamence @ Dread Plate
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Docile

Flamethrower
Earthquake
Dragon Claw
Crunch

After reading on many a site that Salamence is a pure monster, I figured I would get one. I don't have the happiness for Draco Meteor yet, which is why I have Dragon Claw there instead. Crunch with Dread Plate works very well against Gengars and Flamethrower does well against Heracross and Skarmory, as well as Ice types and other Steels that get sent out first.

dpmfa392.png
Infernape
Ability: Blaze
Nature: Bold

Stone Edge
Fire Blast
Flare Blitz
Close Combat

I'm not sure what fire move to replace and with what move to I replace it with. Stone Edge works for Flying types that could otherwise present problems to it, and Close Combat is extremely effective.

dpmfa448.png
Lucario @ First Plate
Ability: Steadfast
Nature: Lax

Aura Sphere
Dragon Pulse
Close Combat
Extremespeed

Lucario, like Salamence, is great at taking stuff down. I have both Aura Sphere and Close Combat for Special and Physical walls, respectively. With STAB and the Fist Plate, I've OHKO'd many a Pokemon with my Lucario.

dpmfa395.png
Empoleon @ Spooky Plate
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Hasty

Shadow Claw
Brine
Avalanche
Hydro Cannon

I had to do alot of wheeling and dealing to get all 3 starter Pokemon on my team, but I managed to do it. I usually use Empoleon near the end, which is why Hydro Cannon is there instead of a more reliable move, as well as Brine. Shadow Claw takes care of Psychics and Ghosts.

dpffa464.png
Rhyperior @ Quick Claw
Ability: Lightningrod
Nature: Bold

Megahorn
Hammer Arm
Stone Edge
Earthquake

I got this moveset right from Smogon sans Hammer Arm, but I didn't know what move to put there. Hammer Arm is also handy against Blisseys if I don't have Lucario in the rotation.

dpffa472.png
Gliscor @ Exp. Share (lol)
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Nature: Hardy

X-Scissor
Ice Fang
Rock Slide
Night Slash

Gliscor is my work in progress, but is very handy in walling Pokemon higher leveled than her. Ice Fang is handy in taking out Dragons when Empoleon's Avalanche isn't around to help the team out and Salamence is dead.

There's my team, it's a definite work in progress but I've been grinding out BP in the Battle Towers in order to get enough points for items and such. Thanks in advance for any help you guys will give me.

Honestly, these sets need a bit of work.

I understand you're working with WiFi, but you won't get anywhere here. Instead of ALL attacking moves (bar roost), you need some set up/support moves. SR, Nasty Plot/SD on Ape, maybe Agility on Empoleon, anything really.

Items as well. Dread plate? No. LO if you want to get anywhere. Etc...

RHYPERIOR WILL NOT WORK WITH BOLD. +def is great. -att NOO. I'm sorry. And he would hit bliss plenty hard without Hammer Arm.

Torterra as well. It needs to be Special moves with modest! You have a primarily physical moveset, and want to take off your only special attack? No. A Choice Specs set for him, maybe?

And I'm assuming IV's and EV's are random. That NEEDS to be fixed. Hm.

Well, I would get into breeding if I were you. Just so your pokes will be better for competitive battleing.

Your Ape is bold as well, erm. Bad idea. Without an item.

Good luck though. Hm. It needs alot of work, these poke's wont do well...

Exactly, they're just a work in progress. I just figured that I would put the team up here and let the experts tell me what to improve/change/replace/etc. I wouldn't dare take this team into a professional tournament.

As i can see, you arent a competitive battler OR you just finished your game.

Cuz the natures/items of your pokemons are HORRIBLE.

Cmon BOLD on infernape?
DOCILE in mence with a dread plate. Are you kidding me?

You should read some guides on competitive battling cuz that team wont get you anywhere.

Seriously, idk what you tried to do with your pokemons.
I dont know if you wanted to do a mixed lucario or infernape cuz the natures confuse me.
Hydro cannon is a fail move. Hydro Pump = 1000 times better
Again i see you want to do a mixed empoleon maybe?
Bold rhyperior? At least the moveset isnt that destroyed.
Keep that moveset and give rhyperior an adamant nature (since i think you are going to use him as a tank).

Oh and you arent giving descriptions of EVs so your thread wont stand much without getting closed.

It's a good start, but it needs a lot of work.
Check the Strategy Pokedex for the natures you should use.
Use Life Orb or Expert Belt over the Dread Plate on Mence.
Same with all of your other pokes except Gliscor. Gliscor wants Leftovers.
Rhyperoirs ablility should be Solid Rock, since you aren't using him in Double Battles. Nearly ALL of your Pokemon have an ice weakness.
Since Ice Beam is so common, you need a strong ice resist.
Thick Fat Snorlax or Hariyama, or maybe Lanturn.....

Hope I helped!

Sorry to bump from so far down, but I had a death in the family and I haven't been able to get on a computer since. I'm just wondering what sorts of natures I should have for my Pokemon? I have a Female Infernape and Rhyperior and I really like those two Pokemon, so I was wondering what natures I should look for in one of each and what egg moves I should pick up since I can breed them . I'd also just like confirm my ice weakness and wonder what Pokemon I can use to counter a stern Ice type besides Infernape.

hmm
big root in torterra is doing nothing, maybe if you put Giga Drain or Leech seed but even with that Torterra is better with Physical attacks. Anyways, put leech seed to give him some healing and leftovers over big root. Quit using Modest (+SpA,-Atk) and put an Adamant nature (+Atk,-SpA) and a choice band if you want torterra as a sweeper.

Also quit using the bold anture in both: Infernape and Rhyperior, they both are good wth adamant and Impish for a defensive Rhyperior

Hey geoxphz,

RMT Rules said:
2. Do not post incomplete teams. If you're smart enough to pick five Pokemon, you can easily pick another one. If you're smart enough to pick nine, you can easily cut that down to six.

It would be pretty cool if you could cut your team down to six Pokemon. You'll get much better rates that way. I'll leave this thread open for now, but please get rid of two Pokemon.

Ok, so the pokemon aren't that bad and with proper restructure (I'll be using the six most viable) you will have a great team on your hands. Let's start off with the lead:

Infernape @ Focus Sash
Hasty Nature
64 Atk / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock

Ok, this is a lead better suited for competitive game play. It stops all leads from doing too much damage to your team (except Jirachi) and most importantly, gets Stealth Rocks down. Stealth Rocks makes constantly switching a bad thing as a little damage a lot adds up fast. Fake Out removes other opponents Focus Sashes and Close Combat / Fire Blast should finish the job on the other leads. Nothing is stopping Infernape from coming in late game either to help out either (assuming you kept him alive).

Salamence doesn't want that moveset you game him, I'll assume this is for D/P since Plat has not been released in the States yet.

Salamence @ Life Orb
Adamant Nature
252 Atk / 252 Spe / 6 HP
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

This is the Dragon Dance sweeper Salamence, it is extremely powerful and with proper set up can OHKO most unprepared teams. You switch in on a resisted attack then use Dragon Dance on the switch out. You now have the options between three attacks. Fire + Dragon + Groudon is completly unresisted and should be quite effective in a mid to late game sweep. You'll want this as a wall breaker so you can soften up your opponents team for a sweep later.

Gliscor is your next pokemon which could use some work. With Gliscor I'd normall suggest something of the Swords Dance sweeper set, but with your team being somewhat fragile, I'll suggest something other than that:

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Jolly nature
252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Roost

This set will outspeed everysingle Lucario that is possible and OHKO that nasty bugger with Earthquake. You'll want Gliscor on your team as he provides some nice bulk to it, along with a Ground and Electric resists. He has plenty of resists to come in on, though, you need to be careful of the Water and Ice attacks everywhere though. Stone Edge will OHKO a Zapdos after a Swords Dance, I wouldn't reccomend keeping a Gliscor in on a Zapdos though, as she may out speed you and OHKO you with Hidden Power.

Empoleon is probably the next competitive pokemon which would be fun for you to use:

Empoleon @ Petaya Berry
Modest Nature
12 HP / 252 SpA / 12 SpD / 232 Spe
- Agility
- Substitute
- Hydro Pump
- Grass Knot

This set is simple, yet requires a good amount of prediction skills. You switch in on one of Empoleons many resists and then use Agility when your opponent switches out. You then use Substitue till you're Petaya Berry activates, giving you a Special Attack boost. Hydro Pump is the main STAB attack move in this set, once you've set up and Grass Knot is to hit bulky waters. Hydro Pump will OHKO a Salamence. You'll need this on your team as an end game sweeper, not to mention as the only special sweeper you have right now.

Lucario is an amazing pokemon, being able to run several different sets and not only always posing a threat, but doing it so well that he was one of the best sweepers in the game.

Lucario @ Choice Specs
Modest Nature
252 SpAtk / 252 Spe / 6 HP
- Aura Sphere
- Vaccume Wave
- Hidden Power [ICE] / Dark Pulse
- Shadow Ball

This is a fantastic wall breaker, and something not seen to often as many don't find it as useful as the Swords Dance set. Specs Lucario is a incredibly powerful pokemon, being able to 2HKO a Blissey with Aura Sphere, and pick off pokemon that are sticking around with Vaccume Wave (has priority). I listed Dark Pulse as an option instead of Hidden Power [ICE] since this is a WiFi team which might be hard to obtain. Shadow Ball is to hit ghosts with that other wise are immune to the first two attacks. This is needed on your team as another Special Sweeper, along with a wall breaker.

The last pokemon, which I would suggest, is Rhyperior. Rhyperior has a termendous Atk stat and will cruch several pokemon after his rampage has ended.

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Solid Rock ability
Adamant Nature
132 HP / 192 Atk / 16 SpD / 168 Spe
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Rhyperior is naturally extremely bulky, using this to your advantage you switch in on attack you won't take that much damage from, a fire attack lets say, then on the switch out after scaring the other pokemon away you Substitute. Now depending on the pokemon you either Swords Dance or Attack. On something like a Zapdos, Swords Dance would be the better choice since Zapdos wouldn't be able to deal that much damage. On something like Salamence, which can possibly OHKO you with an Earthquake it's best to use Stone Edge. Rhyperior is a tank that relies on his 101 HP substitute (meaning a Scismic Toss won't break it) and his average defenses with his amazing ability; Solid Rock which cuts Super Effective damage 1/4 to deal as much damage as he can.

This is all I got for yuo, I know this is WiFi and some of these sets will be difficult to get, but it doesn't hurt to know what is effective and what isn't.

Hope I helped,
Empoleon

i don't have much too add as Gen. Empoleon has a great rate there, but if this is for D/P wifi, then gliscor can use an adamant nature, as it doesn't have to worry about ice-punch lucario

Done :]

And thank you Gen. Empoleon, I'll start breeding my face off to get everything I need to get for that team to work, thanks alot. Hopefully by the end of the month I'll be able to post a second RMT with Pokemon that actually work.
