np: UU - A New Beginning

Hmm, looks like I should try out Sub Punch Azumarill. My team has a slight problem with Walrein since he gets a free set up against Registeel.

God, Gallade is so hard to deal with. I've changed one of my pokemon to Staraptor just for some extra insurance against the SDer (though he fits nicely on my team).

(not sure if Tauros can 1hko though).

Adamant 252 ATK @ Leftovers Return
0 HP / 0 DEF: 78.34% - 92.42% (OHKO's only 33.33% of the time with a hit from Stealth Rock)
48 HP / 0 DEF: 75.09% - 88.58% (OHKO's only 7.69% of the time with a hit from Stealth Rock)

Adamant 252 ATK @ Life Orb
Return
0 HP / 0 DEF: 101.81% - 120.22%
48 HP / 0 DEF: 97.58% - 115.22% (OHKO's only 87.18% of the time)

Adamant 252 ATK @ Choice Band Return
0 HP / 0 DEF: 116.97% - 137.91%
48 HP / 0 DEF: 112.11% - 132.18%

Jolly 252 ATK @ Life Orb Return
0 HP / 0 DEF: 92.42% - 109.39% (OHKO's only 53.58% of the time)
48 HP / 0 DEF: 88.58% - 104.84% (OHKO's only 28.21% of the time)

Jolly 252 ATK @ Choice Band Return
0 HP / 0 DEF: 107.22% - 125.99%
48 HP / 0 DEF: 102.77% - 120.76%

Double-Edge usually nets an OHKO with all of these sets, with a notable exception:
Adamant 252 ATK @ Leftovers Double-Edge
48 HP / 0 DEF:88.24% - 104.15%

Double-Edge OHKO's only 20.51% of the time without Stealth Rock, whereas with the field hazard it's always a clean knock out. It's an OHKO in Sandstorm 58.97% of the time as well.

Goes without saying that if Gallade has taken any prior Life Orb damage, he's toast one hundred percent of the time. :^D

Well, as cool as Tauros is, I've gone with good ol Scarf Staraptor. Nice EQ immunity, ghost immunity, and sick power. My only SR weak. Intimidate too.

It sure seems Staraptor almost completely outclasses Tauros offensively.

I was looking for solid anti-leads for UU, seeing as ScarfRoserade, Ambipom, and Crobat are so common. Leads in UU are a huge deal in this new metagame from what I've seen, so getting up a quick 6-5 can throw a huge curveball for the opponent's team that he or she may not recover from. While by no means perfect, this anti-lead seems to match up well against the metagame.

Manectric @ Choice Scarf
Modest
Static
12 HP/252 Sp. Attack/244 Speed

Thunderbolt
Overheat
HP Grass
Something Else

Manectric gets a team off to the races quickly. Few expect scarf (advantages over Typhlosion), so opponents tend not to know what to do. Crobats love to scout with U Turn, yet before he can, Thunderbolt OHKO's (minimum 105.33% to 108 HP Crobat). He outspeeds ScarfRosie with the EV's and OHKO's with Overheat (minimum 106.11%). Uxie can be jumped on first turn while he Stealth Rocks (lack of recovery means that is permanent damage). Then you have to switch, as you do with stupid Ambipom. Uxie gives a solid turn to set up something with your own supporter, while Ambi is easily countered. Ambipom takes 70% from TBolt, but Fake Out hurts too much for Manectric to stay in. Manectric can double as a revenge killer that hits hard for UU (105 base sp. attack) and fast (105 base speed plus choice scarf is really...really fast). He can also double as "Defensive Threat Eliminator" allowing Shaymin to spam Seed Flare through the opponent's team now that Crobat is history. Solid anti-lead, making Shaymin even more powerful, and in theory making sweepers like Gallade more viable as well.

^^^^ Yep, I've used it before and can attest to its effectiveness. It is kinda easy to predict though. Just switch to Chansey or any resist, and get a free set up. And since you don't know your opponents team, you can't do much but dry switch or attack.

Not saying its not easily to outpredict, just not expected.

Crobat often U Turns out of Uxie leads because it perceives the threat of Psychic if it tries to Taunt. Same thing here. Crobat expects to be faster as ScarfManectric is not common, so it U Turns instead of switches to get a little damage = dead Bat by electrocution. Rosie expects to outspeed and sleep = dead Rose by incineration.

Yes walled hard by Chansey, but just about every UU Sp. Attacker is, bar MissyM. And all choice users give the chance to set up, not just Manectric.

Under the original outline for this test, Bold voting for Suspects was going to begin on February 18. It was believed approximately 1.5 months was necessary to establish a settled metagame. However, despite the radical changes, the UU metagame has established surprisingly quickly. It is believed that it is established enough that the process of nominating Suspects can begin. For that reason, Suspect Nomination has been moved up to February 5th.

So get your nominations in line!

What will be the rating/deviation requirements?

And do we have to vote for suspects in a new thread, or send PMs to RB Golbat?

I'm not sure what EVs Chanseys tend to run (I'm going to assume 252HP/0DEF Calm), but perhaps you could run Rash instead of Modest, and use Crunch or Body Slam in that last slot? Both are only 3HKO's at best, but Crunch has a 20% of being able to inflict even more damage next turn, while Body Slam gives a chance for paralysis, making it useful even if you predict wrong and your opponent switches something else in.

Alternatively, if you move the HP EVs to Atk and run Double-Edge, you have a pretty good chance of a 2HKO even with Leftovers recovery (50.142%-59.1%, guaranteed 2HKO with SR), but Manectric is most likely going to die from recoil on the second attack, especially if it's taken any prior damage.

In any case, I really like the looks of that Manectric set. I think I'll try it out for myself.

I came back from school to see a huge amount of responses :)

Anyways, I talked to one of my non-Smogon friends (he uses TR like me) and his opinion of Abomanasnow was that it should be BL. Let's look at his set.

Abomanasnow w/Leftovers
I don't know the EVs
-Blizzard
-Leech Seed
-Toxic
-Protect.

Anyways, this set is annoying. Leech Seed, Toxic, and then just repetitively Protect/Blizzard alternate. You gain upwards 12%, they lose 18%+ depending on toxic. Steels can be delt with by a nice Blaziken (though since he uses TR, like me, he uses Marowak)

Now, if you have the Wallerin set on top of this, things are going to get very annoying indeed. Even if you manage to encore, your going to be losing lots and lots of health per turn.

Also, Abomanasnow does not even care about Azumarill whatsoever.

Are you sure? That abamasnow set looks pretty f'd by sub-punch azumarril to me.

Azum's big problem with hail teams is slowbro, but even then slowbro can only like, 4-6hko azum (with repeated slack-off), and Azum can encore slowbro. If Slowbro goes for calm mind/slack off, it's going to have to run away (or sit there and wait to get 20hko'd by focus punch, lol).

Hmm...That Manectric set looks fun. Signal Beam or Flamethrower should probably go in the last slot, those being the only other worthwhile special moves Manectric gets. I suppose Thunder could work, too, when you need to hit something hard/revenge kill some rain pokeys.

I always forget Manectric gets all those Fire moves. It's rather odd for an Electric type.

I think we should go with nominating suspects very generously. If something becomes a suspect and it isnt broken, it will stay.

My only concern, are people USING these pokemon. I dont usually like to point fingers so i wont, but someone in particullar is shaking my in this system with their posts. This person wins alot of matches and climbed the ladder easily, and ONLY uses hail, but also refuses to admit they are even "easy"(I dont want this to turn into a Hail arguement, i want this to turn into a "people are immature/selfish" arguement). These people may not even realize it.

If there are more people like this, how will smogon deal with this? How will they even know if people are being like this? Will there be any sort of supervision by mods?

Even myself, i wouldnt want to let a pokemon like Crobat go because i use it and it doesnt feel broken, though people against it may say something different. Though i think im passed that, if its broken i would vote it out.

All votes are going to be bold votes counted by rb-golbat, myself, and possibly some others that get into the process. Hopefully this will avoid any concerns you raised here.

Hmmm, then what does this mean.....

In a new thread. And we will decide the rating requirements after we choose the supects.

To clarify, im talking about after these pokemon become suspects, for the voting to BL ban.

What Caelum said.

Just a note, so you know, if your argument for why a Pokemon should be BL is not within acceptable criteria, or his poor reasoning, it will not be counted.

Edit: That is for the vote with the clicky polls after the suspects are choosen

I guess the usage stats will tell us if people are actually using things.

Is there a way for someone like Doug or X-Act to view data on who uses what? I mean, can they see that "Caelum used Staraptor x times" or "Erazor used Registeel y times" ?

On the other hand, I do not think that you can expect people to just try whatever for the heck of it and to have an opinion really worth hearing on it. It takes a long time and trial to really work out the kinks and understand the ins-and-outs of a single team. It's not like even top players can spout out team after team and also be able to use them flawlessly.

It would require log digging and no one is going to do that.

I want to point out that there is no 'new UU', it's just UU, the list has not been finalised yet and therefore we have no 'new UU'.

Chris is me has a script that trawls through logs sent to him, he has some usage stats.

So, any certain criteria that needs to be met to vote for suspects?

Sorry, I don't understand it all too well ^_^; this ain't no suspect test.

Veedrock, I'm pretty sure(but don't take my word for it) that it's bold voting with rating/deviation requirements. That's all. And "bad" votes will be rejected.

SubPunch can be beaten by Protect/Blizard Alternation. Protect on the punch, Blizzard on the sub. However, I am not sure whether a Blizzard from a 252 Sp Attack Abomanasnow will break the sub :( How many Focus Punches can he take? And how many subs can Azu make if effected by both Toxic and Leech seed?

Stage 1 is bold voting open to everyone. This decides what the suspects will be.

Stage 2 is clicky voting with requirements. This decides if suspects are BL or UU
