DPP Gallade

A few other people and I have used this set to great success, in both UU and OU, but this set is more tailored toward OU use. Anyway, it works really well and is incredibly simple to use. Also, before the "Outclassed by MoPCross", we are obligated to listed competitive sets for each Pokemon, correct? I mean, there's Dragon Dance Dragonite...

Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

[SET COMMENTS]

One of the big complaints about Gallade is that it’s too slow without a Speed increase, and doesn't get a few KOs without an Attack boost. This set attempts to rectify those problems by boosting both Gallade’s Speed and Attack in one set.

The idea behind this set is simple, switch in on something that can’t hurt Gallade, like an Ice Beam Blissey or Cresselia, and set up a Substitute on the switch. Then, Swords Dance up and continue to Substitute until your Salac Berry activates. After that, sweep with your STAB Close Combat and Night Slash, which hits mostly everything neutral, except Toxicroak and Heracross. Even though this set has massive damage potential, it is still recommended you get rid of Gallade’s counters, like Gyarados, before using it or the surprise and your attempt will be wasted. Stone Edge is a possible option for handling Flying-types like Zapdos that Night Slash can hardly hurt, but the coverage provided by Night Slash is usually better.

The EVs are quite simple. Using no HP EVs and a 30 IV gets 276 HP, and because it's divisible by four, it allows you to activate your Salac Berry in three Substitutes instead of four. Using max Speed allows you to outspeed +Speed natured Choice Scarf Heatran, neutral natured Choice Scarf Rotom-A, and neutral base 90 Speed Choice Scarfers. Max Attack is needed for the most possible damage output.

I guess we are allowed to post analysis' for UU Pokemon now?

[SET COMMENTS]

A big complaint about Gallade is that it’s too slow unless it has a Choice Scarf, and is rather weak without Swords Dance. This set attempts to rectify those problems by boosting both Gallade’s Speed and Attack in one set.

The idea behind this set is simple, switch in on something that can’t hurt Gallade, and set up a Substitute on the switch. Then, Swords Dance up while your opponent breaks the Substitutes and continue to Substitute down until your Salac Berry activates. After that, sweep with your STAB Close Combat and Night Slash, which hits most everything neutral (not Heracross or Toxicroak). Even though this set has massive damage potential, it is still recommended you get rid of Gallade’s counters, like Weezing, before using it or the surprise and your attempt will be wasted (I'd get rid of these because a counter is still a counter and its quite obvious that you should get rid of counters).

The EVs are quite simple. Using 12 HP EVs makes your HP stat divisible by four, meaning you activate your Salac Berry after three Substitutes. 244 Speed lets Gallade hit 423 Speed after the Salac Berry boost, outspeeding +Speed natured Choice Scarf Heatran, neutral natured Choice Scarf Rotom-A, and neutral base 90 Speed Choice Scarf users. Max Attack is needed for the most possible damage output.

Argh wait

Some corrections.

I know from experience its a decent set for Gallade. I'll have some things you might want to include in a bit.

EDIT: For instance Cressalia, Clefable, nor Blissey can break your Substitutes with Ice Beam. With a fair amount of SpD you can even survive a Cressalia's Psychic and Celebi's Grass Knot. I don't know if you want to take that route though.

No, it's for OU. I assume you read the set comments? I'll edit in most of your changes, but I already edited some before your post.

Like MetaNite, I don't really like "popular complaints," it just sounds weird.

Otherwise this looks like an OK set, I've never been a big fan of Sub Salac pokemon though.

One of the more (this, or use MetaNight's suggestion) popular complaints about Gallade is that it’s too slow without utilizing (or MetaNight's) a Choice Scarf, and rather weak without Swords Dance. This set attempts to rectify those problems by boosting both Gallade’s Speed and Attack in one set.

The idea behind this set is simple; (semicolon because isn't the first sentence and independent clause?) switch in on something that can’t hurt Gallade, and set up a Substitute on the switch. Then, Swords Dance up while your opponent breaks the Substitutes and wait for your Salac Berry to activate. After that, sweep with your STAB Close Combat and Night Slash, which hit mostly everything for neutral damage, except for Toxicroak and Heracross. Even though this set has masse damaging potential, it is still recommended you get rid of Gallade’s counters, like Weezing, before using it or the surprise and your attempt will be wasted. Like MetaNight said, this sentence is a little common sense

The EVs are quite simple. Using 12 EVs makes your HP stat divisible by four, meaning you activate your Salac Berry in three Substitutes. 244 Speed EVs lets Gallade hit 423 Speed after the Salac Berry boost, outspeeding +Speed Choice Scarf Heatran, Choice Scarf Rotom-A, and neutral base 90 Speed Choice Scarfers. Max Attack is needed for the maximum damage output.

I wouldn't say Gallade is weak without a Swords Dance by any means.

Personally, I'd change it to:

One of the more popular complaints about Gallade is that it’s too slow without Speed increase, and rather weak without an Attack boost. This set attempts to rectify those problems by boosting both Gallade’s Speed and Attack in one set.

Reduce the HP IV to 30 HP (gives you 276 which grants you an HP stat divisible by four). There is no reason to not max Speed.

Nice writeup. Stone Edge might be worth some consideration on the set, and I think it deserves a mention in the set comments. Night Slash is of more use in UU, but in OU, Stone Edge is generally better since the nidos and Claydol are rare sights, and you get to hit Zapdos, Salamence, and Gyarados for convincing damage.

Also, since this writeup is for OU, Weezing might not be the best pokemon to mention as a Gallade 'counter'. Gyarados, Celebi, or Gliscor might be a better choice.

Not hugely keen on this...Gallade isn't weak at all, especially with Close Combat as its STAB move. I'd prefer "that Gallade never quite secures specific KOs" instead of "rather weak without an Attack boost", because it isn't weak!

Also, you have two full stops at the end, not one! (lol nitpick)

I had another look over this and was quite happy so I uploaded it to the site, if any further changes arise notify an active Contributor or Site Staff.
