I've been using a stall team that's received mixed results. I've been using it for a while and switching in and out Pokes / Moves and I can't come up with a way to get passed the low 1400's on Shoddy. Some people have told me it's pretty good while some people have torn me apart 5-0 and 4-0. Well, here it is, tell me what you think!
The goal of the team is to set up entry hazards (Rocks, Spikes, T Spikes) and then either continuely phaze with Zapdos or sweep with Latias.
Sorry, no pictures or special fonts. Maybe next time when the team is actually good. lol
Roserade (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Sleep Powder
- Leaf Storm
- Leech Seed
---
Roserade, my lead. I used to use Smeargle but it was too slow and I'd commonly switch it out instead of actually getting to set up with him. Anyway, pretty much standard set. I Sleep the enemy if I'm faster than them then I set up T Spikes as they either sleep or switch. I can get the second layer up thanks to my Sash and if I happen to be faster, I cna fire off a Leaf Storm and hit hard with it before I fall. Leech Seed has proven to be more effective than HP Fire because sometimes I actually get to use Roserade later on in the game and Seed allows me to force more switches or heal the Pokemon I send in next.
Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def/80 SAtk/176 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Wish
- Toxic
- Ice Beam
- Protect
---
I HATE this thing. It really is the weak link of the team but idk what other special wall to use or how I can change this to make her more efficient. Anyway, I use Blissey has the primary special wall, stalling with Wish, Toxic, and Protect. I opted for WishBliss for two reasons. (1) I needed something to check Latias', Zapdos', and Rotoms and (2) I needed Wish support. Ice Beam on her over a fire move because Flygon and Salamence give me troubles and I can at least predict when Flygon will come in and survive a hit from Mence and revenge kill it but she isn't very reliable on doing this and I don't like taking that path. Help here would be greatly appreciated.
Forretress (M) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/144 Def/112 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
---
The main dude who sets up. Obviously, stall teams need a spinner, a spiker, and a rocker so I combined them all into one. I've tested it out, and I don't think I've overloaded on this moveset. I can usually set up Rocks and at least 1 layer of Spikes, mostly 2, sometimes 3. Shed Shell to protect me from Magnezone since I need to set up and kill off thier spinner before I can let this guy die. Earthquake is there because I find that its the best attack he could have if he could only have one attacking move. Tyranitar especially gives me trouble and EQ hits him for great damage, I think a 3HKO but often a 2HKO thanks to my entry hazards. Earthquake is also great for those Heatran and Magnezone switch ins. I don't use Gyro Ball because than I'm easily walled and toyed with once they find out GB is my only form of attacking.
Rotom-h @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/168 Def/88 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Will-o-wisp
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
---
My spin blocker and status absorber. I'm thinking of using HP Ground on him just cause Heatran switch ins are so common. Anyway, I use a RestTalk set since I needed a status absorber. I've gotten comments that Toxic Spikes, Blissey's Toxic, and Rotom's WoW conflict with each other but so far, I've often been glad that I've had WoW because I have major problems with Tyranitar and Flygon. Rotom can beat both if TTar is locked into Pursuit and is burnt and if Flygon is scarf'd and burnt. I don't like how easily Rotom is forced out due to ground types though. Rest also helps me beat out enemy stall teams because I can reliably heal my spin blocker.
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/96 Spd/160 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Substitute
- Roar
- Roost
---
The finisher. Most people don't expect this Zapdos but it's really great. I sub when they switch to their Poke that has some sort of status, then I'll Roar while they try to break my sub or I'll Bolt to quicken their destruction due to toxic. Roost and Sub can lead to PP stalls if I have to as well. Thunderbolt for STAB and often if I'm up against Pokes that are slower than this guy and I already have an ok set of entry hazards up, then I've won. Roar is also great against enemy Brelooms, something I have troubles with.
Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 148 HP/252 Spd/108 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
---
The backup plan. I'll usually switch in on Heatran (if he's choiced), sub while he switches, and sweep from there. I chose Sub over Refresh / Psycho Shift / Surf because if I can get a CM up and then Sub, I can prolong their toxicity and strengthen my odds of victory. Sub also allows me to beat almost all forms of Heatran.
I don't use Hippo or TTar because Sandstorm kills my Zapdos strategy.
I've been having trouble against Brelooms, TTars, Lucarios and Salamences mostly. If Lucario can get a SD and if they have rocks set up, it's pretty much gg. Salamence usually gets at least one kill on my team and I can only hope for them not to be scarfed, lock themselves in Outrage, and then revenge kill with Latias.
Tyranitar can really kill me, espcially DD versions with Fire attacks. That's why getting in two layers of T Spikes is vital for me since I can at least stall for a while with Roserade. If I can get two layers up, then Zapdos can take care of them but if I don't have any layers up, then I have to rely on Rotom to not miss with WoW and I can't even switch him in. Breloom is espcially trouble for me if the enemy is smart and uses Spore > Leech Seed > Sub > then Punch. If they Spore then Sub, then I'm good but if they Spore, Seed, then Sub, I'm screwed since Zapdos is my main counter with Sub and Roar but his Punch turns into a 2HKO if I'm seeded. I was thinking of dropping the RestTalk set on Rotom to better handle Breloom.
Well there it is. Thanks to anyone who can help me!
