So its 128 per age division, my guess is the juniors will be more populated and the seniors will have less people, so if you're part of the senior division i wouldn't get to disheartened, good luck to the juniors though.
I hope you are right! I've been working hard for this so... I hope I can get in haha.

Oh and I don't know if this was really solved but the matches will be on a Special DS Lite...
Each match during the elimination rounds is untimed, though players are expected to maintain a lively pace during game play. Matches will be played using special Nintendo DS Lite systems, located at the event.

Although you may be able to see other teams, weren't these matches played on TV's in the Japan Tournaments?

Hello everyone. I know I'm joining the community a bit late! --Sorries-- :pirate:

Any whoo, if any one is going to the Seattle Tournament, plan on seeing me there!

( Again, sorry if off topic... running with the idea to make the thread a little more open for all tournament attendees)

I dont think the systems are necessarily "special", they might just be unused DS'es like last year.

Here is what they look like:

You guys wanna find a place to meet up before the tourneys? We could list the guys who plan on going to each tourney, and then come up with a location.

@ Mia, Mosquitox216:

Such a suggestion would be more viable for Nationals or Worlds, where competitors would have much more time to prepare. In Worlds this would definitely be a recommended course of action if we want to ensure, at the least, a Smogon win. Since registration is rather early for Seniors (starting at 8:30), you really should have your team finalized by the time you're signing up (as it states in the rules that you need to present a completed Team Information sheet). Since you can only use a pool of six Pokemon for a team of four throughout the entire tourney, if someone is really serious about winning they should come prepared with a strategy, and not rely on others for at least this stage of the competition.

They weren't played on television until the Final match, which was hosted on PBR. However, at least at the NYC stop, several DS stations were hooked up to screens that projected the matches to onlookers.

I think there needs to be a thread about the analys of this tornument's metagame which could give us an upper-hand find out. Those who have English Platinum you can go to the Global Trade Terminal's Red/Pink room and search for Double Cup battles. Most of them are from the tornument as they are Japanese. English ones aren't the tornument obviously.

Some really common pokemon:

Metagross
Bronzong
Snorlax
Smeargle
Togekiss
Cresselia
Abamosnow
Infernape
Lati@s

EDIT: Xia, that would be almost impossible to be honest. None of us live by the PA tornument and most of us will be waking up damn early to get there. I don't think a meeting would be good. We could see eachother at the event and then talk before the matches start instead. And about these "meetings", what would they accomplish. ALL of us will have our teams ready by then and I doubt any of us would share the vacation package with anyone but their family or friends =P

Oh ok! I seen a video of a Showdown match on YouTube on a screen, that must've been what it was.

Well, I forgot that you had to have the info sheet finished beforehand, so no sharing pokemon. What a meeting would accomplish is figuring out strategies and last minute changes to our teams. However, that could be completed just by talking on site instead of before hand. If no meeting is to take place, we have to at least know what we each look like so we could figure out who to talk to. Then again, Nintendo might pull off a JAA Bryant Park if we reveal what we look like...

What's with everyone talking about JAA and skarm and what happened between the 2 of them? Idk what happened can anyone inform me please?

Mosquito was referencing the fact that at the JAA finals, the R1 pairings were supposedly changed by someone with a grudge against Smogon. The change ended up pairing a bunch of Smogoners against each other R1, making them sorta fight amongst themselves first.I wasn't there, but that's what I remember hearing.

As far as Skarm, he won the Chicago stop but was later disqualified due to the fact he's a Canadian citizen, and not a US citizen. That won't be an issue this year, though.

TTS, are you serious? Smogon's name can't be revealed then. We will have to exchange information of who we are on the site.

You don't need to be so paranoid, Pokemon USA is well aware of Smogon. It's not like we're Team Rocket or something. :\

Cool it, Chicken Little. You're blowing the whole "OMG CONSPIRACY" thing way out of proportion, and looking quite foolish in the process.

Swapping pokemon prior to the event is risky, since if it's hacked, you can get DQed. I personally advise against it, and will not be trading with anyone or discussing my team =P

Oh, ok thanks for telling me.

I have a question. If your pokemon was cloned by AR do you guys think it would pass through an inspection, assuming that that is the only thing done to it?

Probably the wrong post for this question.

But if you're really going to try and compete, don't risk it. Just put in some good old hard work like the rest of us ( over 300 hrs PKMN Pearl ^_^)!

I'm kind of disappointed in the locations of these events, combined with the random selection of 128. If they had a location in Denver or if I could be assured I would get a spot if I went, I would go, but with this method of getting participants, I won't be competing.

Quite understandable Obi. Frankly, I think that a first come, first serve should work fine, or do something invatation like to 128 people who apply for positions online, and have like 20 alternates that may have a chance of competing.

I'm kind of in a similar situation to Obi. If I want to get to this tournament in London, it's going to take a lot of effort, and probably a lot of money too.

I reckon I could get a hotel room for roughly £40~ for the one night I'd need, and if I can travel with friends (which is likely) that cost will be cut rather easily. Do hotels allow this kind of thing? Booking one room and having maybe 3-4 people stay there for a fixed price? Or would we have to pay for each person seperately even if we order one room? I've never booked anything like this on my own before.

Along with the cost of a hotel, there'd also be tavel costs. My first option is to get my friend to drive us there. However, he will be mid-way through his exams at the time of this tournament, so making him cut out a weekend of revision when he could potentially have an exam on the Monday might be a bit much. If he's willing, we could probably just drive down to London and split petrol costs between a bunch of us which means we can probably all get there for around £10~ each (as long as we don't get lost, but I'd borrow my dad's Sat Nav or something).

If my friend can't make it, it's more than likely I'll have to get a train. I haven't done much research on how much this could cost though; London is a long way. But it's looking like a train ticket from Manchester to London could easily cost from £65-125, which is a lot. There's also the possibility of my dad being able to drive me down but I very much doubt that - it's a bit much to ask.

Then I have to look at the worst case scenario:

I spend over £165 to get there, arrive at the tournament and sign up. I don't get randomly selected and just have to 'watch or go home', is that worth it, especially when I don't have a job at the moment? Obviously not.

Best case scenario:

I only have to spend roughly £30-40, I get to the tournament and get chosen, meet a bunch of cool people and actually make it to the final. This makes it seem worth the risk.

I'm really hoping I can make it, I wish we'd have more than one tournament though.

One more question: Would I simply not be allowed to use my US version of Pokémon Diamond? I imported and use this save file for everything.

I do have a EUR version of Diamond too though, so it's not much fuss if I can't use the US copy, since I can just trade everything over. I'd imagine that they just mean an English language version though as there's hardly any difference.
