CAP 8 CAP 8 - Art Submissions

Before I post my work i'd like to say that out of all Cartoons! work has really stood out to me. It looks as if it jumped straight out of Chinese myth to invoke wrath upon us all. ;p

As for this i've decided to stay with white/grey for the main colour. Now for some info.

I've based this on the presumption that this will be slightly defensive but didn't want to go with a potbellied look that some dragon typed or dragon-like creatures already have such as Dragonite, Salamence and Charizard. I came up with this sleeker design that despite the black I tried to make it look somewhat gentle (fixed slightly this update) and not eat your face aggressive like Garchomp and Salamence. I'm not a lover of the cuteness bandwagon.

This Pokemon can stand and move on its hind legs however it prefers to move on all fours. Static electricity runs down the fur on it's back and causes it to stand on end forming a wing-like formation on it's back that are normally useless for flying. When its fur lies flat and lifeless it's taken as the first sign of illness. Finally unlike most dragons this Pokemon is generally mild tempered and like to carry children and small Pokemon around on its back.

PS: Short tail FTW!

I'm digging the silver/black colors on the second pic, compared to the first pic. Can you try updating the first image to be more like the second's colors? I'd like to see what it looks like...

I also love the fur on the back... It looks a bit more furry, rather than the sharpness of the first image. Better, IMO. They eye also looks better.
Also, it almost looks like that the back pose lacks the small "fins" on it's cheeks. That, or the are less notable/smaller. I think it looks better with them not as noticeable, actually...

You say it can't fly- but I think it'd be interesting to at least say it can glide short distances, or something. Looks lite enough so that it'd be able to do so....


I'd actually say this is one of my new favorites.

I think Atyroki's pink fur MAKES the entire design. If he got rid of it, I think it would be tragic. The entire design is slotted squarely in the "cute" pokemon mold. It's like a cross between Meganium, Jolteon, and Jumpluff. For those of you that are hoping for Aty's design to look like a badass electric brontosaurus -- I think you are doing a disservice to the design's essential appeal. The pink fur is EPIC, and I really hope Atyroki keeps it.

Thanks Doug, I have no plans to take away the pink fur, the only changes I might make would be slight, looking back to the previous design etc.

From what I can see, there is some really good art here. I must say, I'm really impressed. I can't really say I have a favourite right now, but Aty's stands out for me.

Don't you just love how people tore him apart for the pink fluff?

My opinion of the fluff is the same as Doug's. The fluff keeps it together and unique. It's also awesome in general. But, like I said, I don't have a favourite yet. Keep 'em coming, great artists.

Did a couple variations on the first design based on commentary from this thread.

Holy cats, it grew legs. O: I kinda like em, gives the guy a little more bulk and stability. It's easy to take them off, though, if folks prefer it without- I drew them on a seperate layer.

...and a wing. Dunno so much about this kind; I'm concerned this is getting to be too complex a design. Moved the tail in this version since putting the wing on top of it would clutter the image too much.

I might still go for the tattoo-dragon design I posted earlier; not sure. In general, with Concept A (the fellow in this post), I'm trying to go for shapes that evoke lightning while still being kinda sinuous, rather than the trademark spiky jaggedness, and without having to add electricity effects. (I flatter myself that I'm pretty good at those, though- if I can ever settle on a design, maybe I'll draw it using Electric attacks for supplementary material. Speaking of which, is there still no word on a deadline?)

So Far I like Cartoons!(This is IT hands down if you can make it slightly more Dragonlike in the face and less boarlike), Atyroki's (though try to fade it to the orginal version more in making it a little less harsh looking, but still electric, also try making the pink a tad less Bright), Wrverii's, Buffalo_Wings's and both of pkmn-taicho321's (but I'd suggesst leaning towards the overall design of the first one, maybe blending a few of the elements of the second's)

Here's a quick sketch of my work-in-progress.

I want a dragon that looks cool and sleek, but not a bloodthirsty badass. I'm definitely going for something with the general coolness of dragons like Salamence, Flygon, or Lati@s -- but not outright cute like Dragonite. I'm also trying to make something that looks like it could fit with the other OU dragons in the game, from a design complexity standpoint.

Definetly in my top 5. This is pure awesome. Blue body with Yellow for the blades and eyes would make this the best CAP I ever saw. No joke. The fuzzy pink sister of Meganium is #2 on my list. Sorry. This is just awesome.

Seriously it almost looks Steel type which goes with its defencive nature
but at the same time looks draconian. Keep it similar. 10/10

Additionaly, the sprite gives alot of possibiliteis for move set, the E-Punches and Volt tackle spring to mind.


DougJustDoug, your thing looks aquatic and like Gorebyss+Lanturn and speedy, more than defencive.

I'll have a go at it. Unfortunately, I thought of this design prior to the style bias, and so it seems too frail. However, the design should not be too difficult to bulk up.

Another thing is that... I can't use the good computer programs to make it all coolio. So I would love it if someone with access to these programs could work their magic.

Electroraptor! The concept is basically an electric Velociraptor, complete with large middle toe. I'll try to color it a bit... with Paint... but it's a yellow-orange color, with a black lightningrod tail and a glowing blue wire-ish thing.

Once again,I would love for someone with interest in this design to expand. Thanks, and comments, please!

Yeah, I also very much like Cartoons! bearded thing! Mostly because it's just so original and fits the style well!

I know it's supposed to be an Electric/Dragon, but I think the dinosaur thing is being milked a little much... even though most of the electric dinosaurs I saw were drawn well and all! It's just... dinos are everywhere, and don't exactly equal Dragon. ;)

But I'm sticking to Wyverii's as my favorite! :)

Seeing as how the last design I made ended horribly, I decided to give it another go. >.>

I'd like to do a little more to the body, but I don't exactly know what, yet. I'm also a little worried that the lines on his eyes are a bit too thick, so I really would love if someone actually commented on this one. I was going for a "beaten puppy" look. (minus the puppy xD) I'd really like some suggestions on how to get it away from being azelf-looking as well.

People are moving fast! I feel late...
Anyways, I started my sketches yesterday, but all I could get was a leg. Then randomly this morning, this poped into my head. Sorry for it being a camera image, but my scanner hates me. I'll scan it in later

Its not quite finished, but its probably my favortie CAP submission (of my own) so far. My original idea was a lighthouse, but I completely failed with that. However, this guy has a lanturn for his tail, which came from the original idea.

More colors+additions to come.

And I know most of you are thinking "wtf Beef this pokemon is slighty defensive and that thing looks frail." But Manaphy, Jirachi and Celebi are all frail looking pokemon that boast nice defenses, so I see know problem with giving a teeny pokemon like the one I drew nice defenses.

@ Buffalo_Wings: Looking pretty good! I agree that there is a bit of noise in some areas, and also a bit of emptiness in others. I like the face a lot, and I like the bulkiness of the arms.

@ InHell 13: Coming along nicely, and I like the color scheme. I liked the ring around the tail better, but it's a nice detail either way.

@ KoA: Reminds me of a basilisk! I love the spikiness in the head and feet areas. I also like the end of the tail a lot. Something feels off about the rear body/tail though... I think it's because it looks like there should be two rows of spikes down the back, but only one is visible.

@ Doomsday+: This one really made me smile, and I want to call it Rocksteady sooo bad! Very cool!

@ CactuarJoe: I really like the shapes and colors. I bulking it up a little would look good, and changing the pose would eleviate the resemblence to Rampardos.

@ nardd: I'm not too sure about that cloud either. I really like how it's coming along otherwise.

I realise that he needs more stuff going for him, but I can't seem to figure what. I don't want to just go add a bunch of spikes and random crap on. :/ I've actually thought about trying to redo his entire body aside from the head. (I think the head was actually decent for once >.>)

Atryoki, Doug, and Wyverii's are my favorites right now, pink fluff ftw.

Beef, yours is great, I'd love to see it coloured pink;) I like it being small like Celebi Jirachi and manaphy.

Also nardd, yours looks nothing like a dragon, just electric/water.

I changed my design a little bit, in an attempt to improve a few things that bugged me in the original design.

I got rid of the single talon feet, and replaced them with three-clawed feet. I think this looks a bit more like a normal animal, and yet they still retain the overall aerodynamic look of the first design. I also changed the spikes on the neck to have more of a "lightning-esque" look to them.

Amazing, definitely my favourite in the thread along with your first one. I do wish that the lower body could be made to look less like Typhlosion though, perhaps make it not on the same level as the feet? Otherwise everything about this is awesome, love the head, love the tail, love the shoulders, everything. :D

Loving this, the wings are a great touch as it still looks "grounded" and having an inability to fly while opening up opportunities for say, Magnet Rise, in the movepool.

Are you going to colour this? This is also an amazing piece and easily makes it into my top three.
