Fritz

Why the hell not?

Best name so far. Japanese references are TERRIBLE, we don't need the history of various words as reasoning, we need a short, sweet name.

Oh yeah and my final submission is Atmosfere. vote for it.

EDIT: whenever I see ryu I think street fighter aaa

Ohmega

Obviously, 'ohm' is in there to denote electricity. The Greek symbol, omega, is used in physics as the symbol for the ohm. And on top of that, 'omega' and 'mega' also denote power, which a dragon should have.

Another really awesome name!

Also, agreeing with Thorns on the Japanese references thing. It worked rather well for Kitsunoh in my opinion because of kitsune rhyming with moon. It doesn't really work with ryu because, well, what the fuzz is ryu supposed to sound like?

This is a perfect example of why every TINY peice doesnt need a reason. You dont need to use an L because volt and bolt have it. You can take something then add sounds to make it sound better.

Perhaps I should simplify my explanation and ask for advice. Which name is more viable: Zeulzar or Zulzar? Both derived the same way from Zeus + Lizard

I agree with Objection Zeulzar sounds better.

I propose Magnir (Magnetism + Fafnir, pronounced Mag-neer)
It's simple, easy to pronounce and conveys the idea of an electric dragon. In addition, the two words fit together perfectly.
It also lends itself well for clever suffixes. Specsnir anyone?

Raivern is cool too.

While I like your idea, it sadly makes me think more of Magma than Magnet, thus being more appropriate for a Dragon/Fire instead....

Teslacoatl is very cool as well! I could almost see it on any of the contributions so far.

It would almost agree, except for Magn instead of Magm. But I see what you mean. I'll see if there's a way to make it clearer.

Since Dranger was totally ignored, I'll throw a different name.

Relamp (relampago. It's the word for lighting in Spanish, and it ends in Amp, the unit for electric current)

Why not Relampagon to make the word complete and show that it's a Dragon type?

Elekdrak:

In lieu of the lack of attention towards my first name submission of Blitzilisk, I'm just going to guess that people didn't like it, so I've decided to revoke it and come up with something different. Simple seems to be the way to go, as many people have brought that up. I would like to try out Elekdrak. Not only does "Elekdrak" almost sound like "Electric" (I just like saying it in my head because of that) but it's a great amalgamation of our two chosen types IMO. (Not to mention simple)

and for all those who want a complicated explanation of the name here we go...Most languages translate electric into a word that begins with "Elek" (notice the K instead of a C) as seen here (This is also a good referance for others going for that language twist) and well, as for dragon, drak is pretty standard IMO, just think "drake". Therefore, Elek+Drak = excellence.

When I was looking through the art thread, I've wondered what to call the newly created pokemon... the idea of name Drael (possibly with some sort of suffix, Draelco, Draelen or something) came to my mind, as a combination of Dragon+Electricity.

My suggestion for a name is Tiabolt combining the name of the mythical dragon Tiamet and lightning bolt.

So far the others I'm really liking are Dragohm and Teslacoatl.

I was going to go for Harry Potter, but I just found out that name already exists somewhere else.

I really like Atmosfere as well as Bronthor though. Atmosfere is perfect for any design that includes clouds (Atyroki's and Cyzir's come to mind), Bronthor is great for all the bulky-looking ones (Cartoons!, Regi DS, Buffalo_Wings, etc.) Fortunately, those are the two categories of drawings that are leading the art poll right now, so cool.

All of these names have so much meaning, how bout something without meaning! *Closes eyes* Xiersri

There you have it, my submission <.<

I really like Jabbawatt :-) I always loved the poem. Here it is, for those who've not read it before:
JABBERWOCKY by Lewis Carroll

(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

That's not all of it but you get the gist.

Also, Jabbawatt is cool cos it sounds like an increased measurement of electricity like Megawatt, Gigawatt, Terawatt, Petawatt, JABBAWATT. Yeah.

I was seriously going to post Styrm until I saw KoA post it. Full support of this.

And then, my submission: Ionir. A combination of ion and either mjolnir or fafnir, an old Germanic draconic beign that guards a gold hoard.

I say we name it REZAL for two reasons:

1. it is LAZER spelled backwards and therefor goes along with my idea that more electric pokemon should be backwards real things like ROTOM is

2. It is 1 letter change away from REGAL like is what a king is often thought of being like kings and dragons always seem to go together so :D
