I gave up all hope on XD when after renting and completing it memory card corrupted. I didn't even transfer my purified Lugia or the legendary birds (Luckily I had them from FR). What's worse is that I was in the process of obtaining the three johto starters and I had traded over my fire red battle party who were all over level 70. Now they're gone forever.

Finally a chance at Celebi (hopefully)!
The games should be really cool. I can't imagine it being too much different, but I hope we at least get some new good tutors. Outrage Mence and Bullet Punch Scizor completely disrupted the metagame. Maybe we'll get another turn.

I'm going to be sorely disappointed if this is not a new generation debut. Wifi-wise we've nearly figured out every little manipulative trick and shoddy-wise I'll cry if there's more new forms/tutors, so time to go back to the basics with an entirely new generation!

Platinum just came out, so obviously a new generation won't debut. Plus i believe europe hasn't gotton platinum yet.

Whilst this is extremely unlikely to be a 5th gen announcement, such an announcement is due in the next 4-5 months or so if the previous timeline is anything to go by. R/S was released in late '02, whilst D/P was first officially confirmed in July '05 if I remember correctly (correct me if I'm wrong). D/P was released late '06, so a possible mid-to-late '09 announcement for 5th gen? Generations usually come around every 4 years approximately.

Anyway, the most exciting thing I'm looking forward to in these new games, whatever they turn out to be, are the possible new move tutors or other methods of Pokemon obtaining new moves. FR/LG, Emerald and XD all did this to some extent, so I see no reason why these games won't introduce something new as well.

As far as possible move tutors go, assuming they are old G/S/C TM moves, these are the only ones that could affect something.

Curse
Fire Punch
Ice Punch
Thunderpunch

And uh, that's pretty much it. I can't think of many Pokemon that could really use these moves that don't already have it. Well, I can think of a few for Curse.

Azumarill: Curse + Aqua Jet is neat.
Bronzong: Probably gimmicky because of how unlikely it is for Bronzong to sweep, but it sounds good on paper, boosting Gyro Ball and whatnot.
Dragonite: Eh, he'd do it better then Salamence. I really think I'm just listing names for the sake of listing names.

You really need a lot of HP, SpDef, and some form of recovery for Curse to be good and there's not a lot of Pokemon that fit that bill that don't already have Curse.

As far as the punches go, the only thing I can see are some minor legality issues being settled.

Of course, they could just throw some batshit wild card Move Tutors that have rare, good, competetive moves on them.

OR... They don't have a G/S remake, or they don't have Move Tutors. Just pure speculations here.

Or they could include new tm's and pokes in the remakes and have a built inpatch to send to dppt to allow use of them like the patch for the rse berry glitch and frlg

"Years ago when I did my “Top 30 RPG Countdown” The second generation of Pokemon games made it all the way up into the top five. Perhaps, PERHAPS sometime in 2009 (Say, May 10th, 2009), we’ll get to return to Johto in one form or another."

HEY GUYS I WONDER WHAT THAT COULD MEAN? BECAUSE I REALLY CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING AT ALL.

That berry patch was applied to the save file, not to the game itself. I don't think they'll add new pokémon this way. At most, they'd be GSDS-exclusive. Imagine the Time Capsule but this time for same-generation trades.

Okay then that idea's out however the only one thingthat gsc lacked along with all other games beides emerald platinum and to some extent d/p. gsc might have had the longest ingame experience it has next to no endgame content other than training to lv 100 and doing the pokedex.

This actually seems promising!!!! Now i AM gona get my hopes up

Please no more Move Tutors, It was annoying trying to adapt to Platinums metagame.
Adapting is annoying? Competitive play is all about adapting. Hopefully they do have move tutors that help some of the less used Pokemon viable rather than breaking the top tier.

Oh yeah my hopes have just gone up even higher, I can't wait to see tail-less Slowpokes again hehe. As for Move Tutors let's go Mach Punch Scizor.

Fuck, I hope there's a Curse move tutor.

also...

Emerald and FR/LG were released same year.

Platinum and G/S DS are being released the same year.

See a pattern?
