If all else fails explode (OU)

This is my first team I have made for the OU ladder. Before you guys rip to shreds I have a few unorthodox teams rules.
  1. All pokemon must be from gen 1 or 2 or evolutions of those pokemon.
  2. No legendaries, even if they are not uber.
  3. All pokemon must be the same color as the version I am currently or will soon be playing. (silver for soul silver)
Alright now that is out of the way I present to you the best dang silvery team ever!

Machamp (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP/160 Atk/98 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Fire Punch/Encore
- Substitute
- Payback
- Dynamicpunch

The tried and true anti-lead lead that is Machamp. He provides my team with a strong start with its amazing Attack stat and its always nice to have a STAB that never misses. I've never been very good at using encore at the right to so using HP Ghost is a great way to just spit in the face of those cocky ghost/physic pokemon who would hurt my poor Machamp.
EDIT: While sleep talk would work well this pokemon I think having encore + sub would make a much better starter. I'm going to start using encore more so I get the hang of it.

Ninetales (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/6 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Energy Ball
- Fire Blast
- Hypnosis
- Will-o-wisp

Its silver and I needed something that could hurt grass. Im joking of course. While those were reasons for my choice I am also a big fan of using UU pokemon in OU if they beneifit your team. With Engery Ball Ninetales became much more versatile than in Gen 3 and it also provides a way to take out potential threats with hypnosis.

Rhyperior (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 244 HP/184 Def/82 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Rest
- Stone Edge
- Sleep Talk

This bad johny just demolishes everything in its path. This combined with rest and sleep talk gives him the ability to counter many things that could otherwise sweep my team.

Magnezone @ Life Orb
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 88 HP/88 Atk/86 Spd/248 SAtk
Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Flash Cannon
- Explosion

A basic Magnezone. HP Ice serves the same role as HP ghost on Machamp. As the title says if all else fails KABOOM goes the Magnezone.

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EV: 252 HP / 66 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
-Drill Peck
-Roost
-Stealth Rock
-Whirlwind
Silver and awesome. This guy will be much better than Steelix on my team as it hits fighting pokemon hard and also takes groud based attacks much better than its predecessor.

Starmie @ Choice Scarf
Natural Cure
Modest
80 HP / 252SpAtk / 176 Spe
Hydro Pump
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Psychic

In Soul Silver I will obviously will not be using Starmie (as its not silver) but I am not so suicidal as to use a staryu in competitve battles. This a basic Starmie sweeper which proves to be an amazing sweeper as well. If anyone knows ANY way Staryu is better than Starmie let me know.
EDIT: I followed Calum's advice but Machamp is enough to take out most Blissey's I've seen and without Psychic I have a clear weakness in my team.

Just a couple quick pointers.

Replace HP Ghost with Payback. They have basically identical coverage and Champ will not be hurting anything with HP Ghost with that cruddy Sp. Atk. ;_;

Most common set-up sweepers own you, such as Mence, Lucario, and Gyarados to name a few. Try Scarfing Magnezone, Maxing Sp.Atk and Speed, and changing to a Naive nature.

Change Steelix's nature to Adamant and Starmie's to Timid. Your current natures are detrimental to your Pokemon's roles and stats. I would also replace Psychic on Starmie with Recover, so it can hang around longer to spin away those entry hazards. Psychic doesn't appear to do anything for you. If you want to sweep with it change Rapid Spin to either Ice Beam or Grass Knot and just max Sp. Atk and Speed.

Your EV spreads seem to be kinda funky to me on some of your mons, but I suspect it might be just me.

Fireburn
I already have payback but I desided to change HP with encore.
Lucario is a trouble but Machamp is able to stand its ground and Gyarados is counter by Mangezone/Starmie/Ninetails. I did change the natures like you said though.

calum
Starmie = changed. My rules, however, require me to use pokemon that arent the norm and to change with each generation. It makes it much more fun that way, at least for me.

Basically what the above posters said.

Also for the Machamp lead, it's an awesome lead, but you're using it a bit wrong. It's meant for scouting, but all I see is you're using it as an all out attacker behind a sub, which doesn't make Machamp function as well as it should.

I suggest switching the set to:

Machamp @ Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
EVs:252 HP / 160 ATK / 96 SPDEF
Adamant Nature
~ Sub
~ Encore
~ Dynamic Punch
~ Payback / Stone Edge

Encore is a great move, it catches your opponent on the move Stealth Rock is executed and can get you a free sub. If you're opponent is obviously going to switch (like lead empoleon) then sub on the first turn. Dynamic Punch is a great STAB move. Payback can be for ghosts, however Stone Edge hits Dragons and Gyarados that switch in for the Intimidate and resist, even though Intimidate doesn't go through a sub.

Also, Fighting (Dynamic Punch) is super effective on Steel types.. Neutral on Steel / Psychic. Why give it Fire Punch?

Yes but Dynamic Punch only has 8 PP while Fire Punch is somewhere in the double digits. It allows me to hit just as hard as if I was doing Dynamic Punch to steel types while saving my Dynamic Punch for when I'm on the ropes and need a Pokemon confused.

I know Encore is great and all but it is far too dependent on the other player for my tastes.

STAB + 100 Base Power does more than 75 Base Power alone. Dynamic Punch is defiantly worth every bit of 8 PP, I've been using this lead Machamp for around half a year and I never have problems running out of PP. Maybe it's based on your style of prediction? Try using it more.

Encore is great, because your opponent will ALWAYS Stealth Rock on turn 1. Especially Swampert / Hippowdon. I used to think the same way, but I tried it and started to love it.

I dont see how a SleepTalking Rhyperior would work at all. I mean x4 weakness to grass/water, as well as weakness to fighting, ground and ice, he is not going to stop much at all. SleepTalking machamp on the other hand is much better, with only 2 uncommon weaknesses, aswell as good HP and respectable defenses.

Someone was talking about fire punch's base power to Dynamic Punch's.
Dynamic Punch neautral: 150 Base Power
Fire Punch Neautral: 75 Base Power, Super Effective: 150

Dynamic Punch > Fire punch, and with the restalk set, PP isnt a problem as you are using SleepTalk.

Also keep in mind 4 EVs = 1 Stat Point
So the 2 Def EVs on Steelix (for example) does nothing

Also what does HP [Ice] do on magnezone? Salamence and stuff are just going to Earthquake you, HP [Ice] is really meant for scarf versions, or steel killers which have substitute AND magnet rise, which means that they can usually get the HP[Ice] off.

Also you struggle against many water types, and also change psychic on starmie for Trick.

Steelix has been switched out in favor of Skarmory.

HP Ice is changed to HP Grass on Mangezone.

Rest Champ I believe is a less effective lead than the encore version. Firepunch changed backed to encore for the record.

I haven't been having too much trouble with weakness on Rhyperior actually. If you know when to switch him in then it doesn't pose that much of a problem. People's teams are pretty easy to guess so...

Thanks for all your help guys. Sorry if I seem stubborn I just like to have unique teams.
