OU RMT: Random Offensive Team

Currently around 1285, looking to get higher. Need help.

Team at a glance:

And in depth:

froslass.png

Froslass @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Snow Cloak
Jolly, 252 HP, 4 Def, 220 Spe, 32 SPD

Destiny Bond
Trick
Thunder Wave
Taunt

I don't know what I was doing when I made this guy, but I love it. The EVs need improvement, and are one of the minor reasons why I am making this RMT. Trick is to hamper all Stealth Rock leads and then Thunder Wave the switch in. If the other lead is also a Trick Scarfer, I T-Wave or Trick right back, Trick again, hoping they switch, and then switch to Scarftran if they use Trick a 3rd time and set up. Taunt is used to ruin Baton Passers or leads that try to use an ability like Spore. I use Destiny Bond to either get an early kill on their switch in or save it for later to take out a troublesome Poke like Tyranitar. Simply put, this guy is for hampering the other team and helping mine set up easier.

celebi.png

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Timid, 252 HP, 80 Def, 176 Spe

Psychic
Recover
Calm Mind
Baton Pass

Standard Baton Pass Celebi. Either sweep with Psychic or pass to Jolteon or Heatran. My personal favorite is when a slower Fire comes in and I Baton Pass Calm Minds and Heatran gets Flash Fire at the same time. 3-4 Calm Minds is almost a guaranteed 6-0 sweep right there. Recover for longevity. This Celebi is pretty much my only Poke that can take hits. I can Baton Pass the Calm Minds to anything, sometimes going to Gyara or Lucario so they can take a hit or 2, set up, and sweep right back.

heatran.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
Rash, 4 HP, 252 Spe, 252 SPA

Stealth Rock
Flamethrower
Explosion
Earth Power

Of course, Heatran. Scarftran. Celetran. Whatever. This thing is powerful. It can set up Stealth Rock, take a Fire attack for Froslass or Celebi and sweep, or use Explosion on a dangerous enemy. I use Flamethrower for accuracy. Generally bring this guy in after Froslass and set up Stealth Rock when they switch, then choose which Poke I'll bring in to counter. It's also great for seeing if my opponent has a Heatran too.

lucario.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
Jolly, 252 AP, 4 Def, 252 Spe

Swords Dance
Crunch
Close Combat
Extremespeed

Another standard set, Swords Dance Lucario. This guy is 1 of my 2 physical sweepers. Come in on something he's weak to, Swords Dance, and attempt to sweep. Extremespeed is great for revenge kills. I'm sure you all know what this guy is used for all how to use him. It's self explanatory. Real powerhouse.

jolteon.png

Jolteon @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
Jolly, 4 HP, 252 Spe, 252 SPA

Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power Ice
Baton Pass

Another special sweeper. I love this guy. He outspeeds most things including a Dragon Danced Gyarados which is a problem for any team. Outspeeds any Ghost except Choice Scarf Gengar for an easy kill. Same goes for Psychics and Waters. Hidden Power Ice gets a kill on low health Dragons and Flyers, it doesn't seem to ever work on those with med-high HP. With Calm Mind he is a force to be reckoned with and can Baton Pass right back to Celebi or Heatran if he gets in trouble. Can 2HKO any Special Wall with a few Calm Minds, 1 shotting some (Mainly Cresselia).

gyarados.png

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Adamant, 4 HP, 252 AP, 252 Spe

Dragon Dance
Taunt
Waterfall
Stone Edge

My second physical sweeper. I love Taunt. It prevents Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, and anything else that might hamper my sweep, giving me an extra turn to set up Dragon Dance. This guy is my counter to Scizor and Lucario, and I pray that Tyranitar's Stone Edge misses, he's the one true counter to my team. 3 DD's outspeeds and generaly 1 shots anyone except Vaporeon, which is easily taken care of by Jolteon. Standard Waterfall and Stone Edge.

The main problem Poke's for my team are Tyranitar, Salamence, and non-Choice Scarf Gengar. Anything else I can get rid of one way or another, but it isn't always easy and often one misprediction seals a defeat for me. I'm looking for help getting past 1250 and staying past it.

Hi and welcome to Smogon,

seems that your team has several problems, I'll try to fix some of them:

1) You lack stealth rock, that's not acceptable for an offensive team like yours: SR turns some 3hko into 2hko and 2hko into ohko, not to mention that it's a good way to weaken one of yuor stated weaknesses, Salamence. For this reason, I suggest you to use a SR lead, in my opinion, Swampert would be the perfect choice:

Swampert@leftovers
nature: relaxed
EVs: 236 HP / 216 Def / 56 SpA
-stealth rock
-earthquake
-ice beam
-roar / hydro pump

with Swampert you may fix a lot of problems with only one change:

- lack of SR support
- lack of a Tyranitar counter
- lack of a good check for Salamence

the last move slot depends on if you want to hit hard Skarmory and Forretress (which are both 2hko'd by hydro pump) or have the ability to scout your opponent and force out random stat uppers like cro-Cune.

2) Give Celebi grass knot over psychic. With psychic as your only attacking move TTar can switch in for free, while with GK you can hit it hard, and mainly, you'll earn a decent check for Gyarados (barring the bounce variant). Note that a jolly life orb Gyarados can almost 6-0 your team after a DD.

3) Although that means losing a lot of offensive power, I think that you should replace Jolteon with a standard support Vaporeon: you don't have sure counter for Infernape, Heatran (other that your own Tran - which, btw risks a ohko from earth power on the switch) and, as stated above Gyarados. Vaporeon solves all of these problems and provides wish support to your team:

Vaporeon@leftovers
nature: bold
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 SpA
-surf
-hidden power [electric]
-wish
-protect

4) With these changes, I only see one more weakness: calm-mind Latias. This pokemon may be a pain for your team considering that your only way to get rid of her would be exploding with Heatran, not to mention that she can easily set up on Celebi. I suggest to try Scizor in place of Lucario, this is the set:

Scizor@choice band
nature: adamant
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
trait: technician
-bullet punch
-u-turn
-superpower
-pursuit

Scizor can trap and kill Latias with pursuit, or revenge kill her with bullet punch. It would also provide a fine revenge killer for things like Salamence and Gengar, which, as you said, usually give you problems.

I know I've twisted your team a lot, but at least I didn't touch the core of the team. Test these changes, I'm sure that your team will work better with them.

GL!

Thank you very much. I'm going to try everything, but I think I'm going to make separate teams. One my original, one with all 4 changes, and one with the first and fourth changes. I haven't had any problem with Infernape or Heatran as Gyara 1HKOs, Celebi lives through Fire Blast real well after 2 Calm Minds and 1 shots Infernape, Lucario and the like with Psychic, so Vaporeon doesn't seem necessary. If I take Swampert, who will keep TTar in check and Scizor who can revenge kill if necessary with Bullet Punch, I don't see a need for an additional move to take him down, as any other grass weak Poke is also 2 shot by Psychic in most cases. Usually I can beat out CM Latias with Baton Pass to Jolt, but I'll try your method with Scizor as it seems much more reliable. After testing everything I'll see which works the best. Thanks a lot.

Also, Heatran had Stealth Rock, any ideas on what to replace it with if Swampert is taking it up?

One last thing, I've never had a problem with DD Gyara as Jolt always outspeeds it after 1 DD, unless I've never run into a +speed bonus one. so idk

One last thanks.

Oh, I didn't even notice SR on your Heatran, obviously hidden power [ice] or [grass] are the way to go. You should aslo consider switching to a naive nature to outspeed positive natured base 130 pokemons (essentialy Jolteon), adamant scarf-Heracross and +1 Spe neutral natured Dragonite and Gyarados, with the last two mentioned pokemons which are among the few which can take a +1 flamethrower. Also, despite the 85% accuracy and the only 8 PP you should consider fire blast in place of flamethrower, the higher base power will turn some 3hko into 2hko and so on.

About the Gyarados issue: Jolteon outspeeds adamant versions, but jolly variants will outspeed it and OHKO with either EQ or waterfall. That's a potential threat that, for completeness, I had to point out. Obviously, it's your choice to take the risk or not.

Again, good luck!
