Shoddy Battle 2 (the future of Shoddy Battle)

I would like to be able to choose from more than one sprite to represent my pokemon. All pokemon have 2 4th gen sprites, and pokemon that got new sprites in Platinum actually have 4 sprites to choose from, so it would be great if we were able to choose from 4 sprites instead of one. We will soon have even more sprites to choose from when HG/SS sprites are released.

It would also be great if custom sprites could be submitted for use in Shoddy. There are many awesome spriters here on Smogon who I am sure would love to see their work featured in a project like this.

Also, I think this idea is excellent.
If it is at all possible, I would like to see the "Box" function extended.

Specifically, I would like to see "Export to File" and "Import to File" buttons, which can Export a specified Box/Pokemon into a file which can be given to someone else to import onto their team.

This would also allow Smogon to create Boxes for Pokemon on the site, with user help. Potentially these could be integrated into the Smogon Analysis pages (so next to a set there would be the option to download the Box import file for that set so you could put it right on your team), but failing that there could easily be a forum location.

This isn't 100% necessary, as creating a Pokemon does not take all that long, but it would certainly help newer players who have trouble navigating Shoddy's team builder, and it could make team building very quick and painless.
 
I also have a suggestion.

When you don't play, your rating descends. This is faulty imo because if you have a 1360 and you leave for a couple days and it drops 100 points, it takes long to get those points back, especially in the 1500's.

1. OK, this one, I KNOW was already posted... but I think I have a semi-decent solution. What if battle animations were put into the game (simulator). I'm not saying anything over the top... just something that... isn't boring. One problem I personally have with SB is that I get bored of it real easily, and can't play it any more b/c it's just too bland. I'm just saying maybe a simple animation, like ThunderPunch would show a fist sprite, and the PKMN using the move would flash yellow?

2. PKMN cries PLEASE! Again, I can understand if this is a bit over-the-top... but couldn't you make it like a downloadable optional thing... like in Doug's Create-a-Pokemon server the absolute worst thing was that the fakemon would have a ? sprite. The cries could work similar to that except no cry would play unless you've installed the file thingy on there. (I assume the CAP server will be moved to SB2, if so, I'll be more than happy to make cries for the Fakemon on it... well, with polls and such... obviously)

3. Pretty much the same concept as #2 except with music. Just simple MIDIs would be a nice addition. (IE- A highly ranked battler would play the champion theme, and a noob like me would play the wild PKMN theme)

4. Just typing in the exact stats of your PKMN instead of having to type in the EV's and IV's... that'd be helpful...

I know I can't speak for everyone, but especially the music and battle cries would be unnecessary. The animations more people would be interested in, but its still not the most important.

The 4th suggestion would require you to remember the max stats of every pokemon, a lot more work IMO.
 
I heard that animations were omitted on purpose, to save time when battling. Sitting through them in the real game is really annoying...
 
it might have already been said, but how about have rankings based on teams. so a team of 6 bidoof has a diferent ranking than a decent team you made. It could be used instead of a ranking reset.
 
Animations would require a huge amount of effort, not to mention the fact that I don't think anyone has actually ripped all of the relevant sprites
 
I dont think sprite animations would make much of a differnce. However, making a change on the pokemons sprite (not just the pokeball) when it has a status, would be a good idea, IMO. On wifi it is clear when your pokemon is sleep/poisoned/other, but on shoddy is is not always as aperant. Since i play mainly on wifi, when i try to use shoddy, i often overlook the status of my pokemon. Sometimes people tell me on the chat logg, they forgot of it also.
 
I am concerned about your status issues. When you play SB1, you have to keep track of the text to find out if you're paralyzed or by hovering your pokemon. Would it be applicable to put status signs next to the pokemon's HP? I am unsure if you have covered this already so if so I do apologise.
 
With the recent update, the new "no challenges" feature has been added. I think it's safe to assume that the majority of us set no challenges every time we open Shoddy. Would it be possible for SB2 to remember this setting, so you set no challenges once and you don't have to do it next time?

'Cause the screenshots I've seen seem great and I look forward to playing it.

There will be much more robust preferences this time around, including something like that.

I know its a huge effort, but adding sound and animations would allow Shoddy to completely destroy Wifi. As much as I like bragging about my good IVed shit, its really not worth the time for anyone.
 
I don't know if anybody has asked about this yet, but would it be possible to add an option to have shoddy automatically save logs after every battle? This could be useful for those testing out new teams, so that way they can go back after a bout of testing and see what worked and what didn't without having to go and save every single time (or for people like me who have formed a habit of not saving and end up closing out of warstory-material battles...).

Also, would it be possible to develop plugins like for shoddy battle 1, and if so, in what language? Javascript, C++, or something else?
 
I posted this quite a while back, but I'm not sure if anyone saw it. It would be great if speed were listed last in the team builder, rather than in the middle. This seems to be the order most people use. Obviously, not that important, but just thought I'd mention it...

Edit: oh yeah, goof reminded me of this before, but it'd be great to have a onotice window. by onotice window i mean a mods only chat. hell, it doesn't even need to be anything big just a command /onotice MESSAGE which only displays the text to mods (in mainchat itself for all i care). it could go upto as fancy as being like a seperate window while connected to the server. it used to be very useful to be able to chat via onotice back on netbattle so yeah!
 
Okay, haven't browsed through the whole thread, so I don't know if these have been brought up before, but I have a few requests:

2 on 2. Don't pay any attention to this if it's two hard, but I was thinking for double battles you could team up or something. It would open up so many new tournament ideas.

No hax clause. This could be one of those boxes you check when you challenge someone. Moves would still be able to miss, but it would stop freeze from ice beam, burn from flamethrower, flinch from waterfall, etc.

NU Ladder. If this is not planning on being implemented in shoddy battle 1, please consider it for shoddy battle 2.
 
I really like the new look. I was just wondering if there would be different sprites because I prefer Platinum's sprites to Diamond and Pearl's sprites?

That would be changing game mechanics. Not acceptable.
