Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

Hi Forum members,

I wonder if I could make an enquiry about a problem I am encountering whilst trying to hatch a shiny egg using the guide at the start of this thread.

I caught a natural shiny Gyarados the other day whilst fishing and so thought I would try to calculate my SID and then follow the Smogon guide to hatch a few shiny eggs.

Its stats are:
Gyarados lvl 30
Quiet (alert to sounds)
IV's (calculated using MetalKid's calculator and lvl'd to 70,71 and 72 with rare candies)

HP: 1
Att: 14
Def: 29
SpA: 12
SpD: 29
Speed: 31

By my calculation this led to an SID of 01712

Using the smogon guide for hatching I encountered the following snag:

With normal parents, I got to the expected frame and hatched an egg of the right nature but it was not shiny:

Frame5941 expected shiny quiet, obtained non shiny quiet
Frame5942 expected non shiny relaxed, obtained non shiny relaxed
Frame5943 expected non shiny sassy, obtained non shiny sassy
Frame5944 expected non shiny jolly, obtained non shiny jolly

So, I tried with International ditto, (using the correct egg PID generator). Now I left myself one frame short deliberately and took the next 4 eggs. The nature this time was not right and the poke was not shiny, although the pokes at either side were correct:

Frame 1239 expected non shiny adamant, obtained non shiny adamant
Frame 1240 expected shiny adamant, obtained non shiny sassy
Frame 1241 expected non shiny adamant, obtained non shiny adamant
Frame 1242 expected non shiny timid, obtained non shiny timid

Because I got to the correct frames as expected with the taps used and the natures correlated (bar the one for the expected shiny with international parents) with what I was expecting, I presumed that my SID was correct. What puzzled me was why the pokemon I expected to be shiny were not and why with my International Ditto, it threw off the nature of the pokemon obtained (but only for the Frame with the expected shiny).

Does anyone know how this might be explained?
Is it just that I calculated my SID incorrectly?

If that is right, then I am stumped as to what is throwing the spanner in the works. I feel close to getting it right, but not quite there. At least I can get predicted natures right as long as I'm not using International Ditto and hatching an expected shiny - lol.

Any help most gratefully accepted.

Can you give me your ID cause it looks like your SID is wrong. Also, can you give me the seed for either of the eggs. I think with those two I can help solve it.

When soft resetting for IVs, do you HAVE to set the journal up two days before? I've been calibrating and soft resetting without the journal at the beginning of the game and have almost had the results I've wanted but have not hit my desired spreads yet.

Thanks man,

ID = 55677

seed for the normal parents was 490D0275
(expected shiny quiet nature at Frame 5941, shiny jolly nature at Frame 11230)

:)

You calculated your SID wrong most likely. RNG reporter has an option that, IVs to PID which also has a ID section, and it shows you a possible SID if that was shiny. Try using this SID, the one RNG reporter came up with: 13696 It should work.

@Crooked: If you're going for a frame that's an interval of 2 above your current one, then it would help. You could try and do it manually, but that gives the NPC's more time to walk around, messing with your frame.

Now, something wierd that happened to me last night. I spent some time looking for a shiny Adamant Ability one spread, and I finally found one after about an hour of searching. I did the taps (spent about an hour from finding initial seed to finishing due to I was watching tv and doing the taps on commercials). Anyways, I hatch it after about 10 minutes after that, and it's not shiny. It's Female and Adamant, with ability one. So I check the spread on the RNG reporter to see where I hit, but the closest on either end w/ those specifications was over 100 on either end of it. Could it be possible that after a certain time, the shiny might go away.

I have a question about a line before I being to try to RNG abuse to get perfect pokemon.

It says:

4. Advance the RNG by 105. In this example, the Journal page flipping and walking techniques are used. You would flip your Journal 50 times to a page which lists a captured Pokémon to advance the RNG by 100. That still leaves 5, though, which can be handled by walking 128 steps with 5 Pokémon in the party.

Now, when it says flip 50 times to a page which lists a captured pokemon, does that just mean that you have to have 2 pages next to eachother with a captured pokemon, or does flipping to a page without a pokemon not advance the RNG?

No that is not possible. You most likely have an ID/SID error.

Yeah, it was. I mis-typed it in after I did my abuse for Cresselia on my Pearl. Mixed up 2 numbers. Thanks for the help.

Am I likely to be getting a similar Seconds and Delay value to my English Platinum game as I would on the Japanese one? Or is it worth playing further through the game an determining that the proper way? And would it likely be different for each re-play of the game?

Matt

This morning I was searching for a specific egg spread after about 45 mins I got the coin flips to match the flips of the desired spread, but here's the thing when I hatced the egg it turned out that it didn't have the IVs. Does anyone know what could have aused this?

Hi again LightningFusion,

Yep - the SID you suggested was the right one. I must have made an error when I did the manual calculation - lol.

Thanks for the advice.

Check the frame of the egg always after if it is wrong and it should be right.

Odds are you just got the wrong frame. Just to make sure, did you take the egg before you did the coin flips?

I went back to my original calculation and it turns out I misunderstood the instructions. When it said only the first 13 digits of the 16 digit binary number were important... I only used those 13 digits to calculate the SID, when in fact I should have used 16. It just meant that the last three are always set to zero - not that they aren't used at all.

It means you have to flip it to a page that has a caught or captured Pokemon 50 times. They don't have to be next to each other. Pages that don't have this don't advance the RNG. So basically:

Flip 50 times to a page which lists a captured pokemon.

They will probably be the same since they are both Platinum, but I would do what it takes to do a few calibration runs anyhow.

Hello everyone, I need your help for making a video regarding RNG abuse.

Probably next week, I plan to begin making a video regarding the various processes of RNG abuse. I'm going to start with wild/legend abuse, as it seems the easiest to make a video out of. I hope that this will help people RNG more easily with a visual aid, as well as stopping some of the easily answerable questions from clogging up the research thread.

Thing is, I'm a fairly experienced RNG abuser. I can't particularly remember what gave me trouble, what needed extra attention, or other tricky sections of legend/wild abuse. So far, my (rather sketchy) video plan is:

1.Selecting a spread
2. How to find it in Method J and figuring out how many Journal flips are required
3. Generating seed and time from that
4. Coin flip trick
5. Journal flips themselves (don't worry, I don't plan on filming this in its entirety).

Ok, is there anything I am forgetting? Are there any particular nuances that new abusers have trouble with that I need to cover in more detail? I want to get this video correct in one shot, so I need some feedback.

I recently lent my AR to a friend to help him to start IV breeding. Shortly after, things have been messing up drastically.
I re-calibrated so I could get my new seconds. However, my delay flipped from odd to even. I figured "no big deal" and added an emerald cartridge. THEN they flipped again. I thought "This is annoying" so I took it out. It switched again so I gave up. THEN, after I had my desired frame for breeding, my delay went from being 618-622 to being in the vicinity of 644.

I think that what might have caused this was that I only got my frame once because I didnt want to keep hatching eggs to change it, and I made the journal pop up and did a flip on it before I grabbed the egg to increase my delay from 5 to 7. So my question is:

Does having the journal pop up at the beginning of your game increase your delay?

If you could answer this and tell me what I'm doing wrong then I will be very happy.

The journal has no effect on delay, just on frame.

I got this awesome spread for a great Heatran:

Naive
27/30/30/31/29/31 Ice 49
Can be caught in 2009

Details:
Frame: 748
Time: 16:59:59
Delay: 601

Is anyone else able to use this or is it just my ID and SID combination?

ID and SID just define shinyness, so if this is not shiny for you, everyone can use it.

QUESTION FOR FOLKS WITH NO AR/FLASHCART WHO BREED FOR IVs

What is your preferred method for checking your frame when you hatch an egg?

Do you have a rare candy stash and do it that way?

Do you use the IV man?

The hidden power guy?

Level it up via battling?

Put it in daycare?

And finally, I am considering doing some work to try to make this easier and that is to show the Hidden Power on the breeding frames (will require user to input parent IVs) and showing what the characteristic of the pokemon for a particular frame should be (will require user to enter PID for accurate tie breakers).

This would give two comparison points, as you could match characteristic and use the platinum hidden power man to check and hopefully make it very fast and painless for non-AR users to check the frame that was hit.

Is this even useful or something anyone would want to see?

I hatch the egg and level it up(to narrow down IVs) to check my frame.
I do have a rare candy stash, but since I'm trying to save them I just throw the Poke in the daycare for a few levels. xP
I don't have Plat so I can't use the IV/HP man.
