Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

If I am resetting IVs for a different Egg, do I have to use the same frame or a different one? On the last Egg I used a Frame of 3. Is it going to be the same for all Eggs?

Well I've only done it twice and it was a different frame on the 2nd time, so I'm pretty sure the answer is no. I suggest doing a frame calibration for every egg. Of course if I'm wrong, someone correct me.

You're right KidFlash, it's ideal do you do calibration for every egg because everytime you save, chances are when you load different NPCs will move, etc.

I'm trying to get this, 2A0C029F, Frame 513: 31/30/30/31/31/31 (Mixed HP Ice 70)

How many journal flips is this and are there certain ones I need or need to avoid? Caught pokemon, etc?

Non-Player Characters.

EDIT: Can anyone provide a working link to MinusOne's Shiny Finder? The one in the OP does not work.

Fixed the original link...

FileFront = fail. You'd think, given they are a file hosting site, that if they were going to rearrange their website, they'd at least have the old links redirect to the new ones.

@ Chill: The number of flips depends on what you are catching, subtract the appropriate start frame from 513 and divide by two, that is the number of times a page with a capture notice must appear on screen.

In that case, treat it as an egg and do a frame calibration. NPCs in the Pokemarts (every Pokemart has at least one wandering NPC) act just like the ones in Solaceon town. That will give your starting frame, then apply the mathematics I posted earlier. You will need to get an odd start frame for this (keep resaving and recalibrating) as only even advancements can be reached with journal flips alone. If you keep getting even frames, you will have to release a runner to change the frame type.

I updated my post on the front page with a few small tips for RNGing wild pokemon in areas with wandering NPCs. I'll add more as I keep RNGing if I find any other tidbits. I don't know how well it'll work for everyone, but good luck if you'd like to try~

OK, so every now and then when I run the time finder, I get the exact same results in multiple years. For example, I search for certain IVs in 2009, get some results, don't like any, move on to 2010, and get the exact same results. Did Nintendo do this intentionally?

I'm trying to reset for a wonder card now, and I am running into a few issues.

How do I get my desired seed? I always get my initial seed, but then I have no idea how to use it. If I don't use it, how do I change it to the one I want?

I've been fishing in Mt. Coronet. If I fish for a Pokemon without any NPCs around and without any runners released, I should theoretically catch a Pokemon on Frame 4 if no "not even a nibble" message showed up, right?

I've been catching everything consistently at frame 5, though. I tried fishing while surfing and fishing while on land, but I still seem to catch everything on frame 5, and not 4. I do not move or turn before fishing, and I always fish as soon as the screen loads. Could this be because I'm in a cave, or would it have anything to do with the fact that I'm fishing in a Feebas square? .-.

Maybe it's just because being in a cave makes me start at Frame 1 instead of zero, which is weird. In that case, nevermind then.

I had the same thing happen to me when I fished for gyarados in the place before the E4. I think in caves it is one higher.

Sephirona, don't you always start on frame one anyway? Perhaps being in a cave does affect it, but I don't know. Your best bet is to wait for Mingot or LF to answer your question :P.

EDIT: Speak of the Devil

Yes it should be on 4. I tested in caves (victory road) and outside and it was always 4 for me. Perhaps it is something specific to the place where you can catch Feebas, but I don't know for certain. I will make a note to check that pool and see what results I get.

You caught your Pokemon on frame 5, as well? ): I was hoping I wouldn't have to take an extra step to make my frame even again. Though I can just save one step before my fishing spot, I suppose.

Is it possible that the randomly generated 4 fishing spots per day for Feebas would make the frame start at 1, maybe? Sounds weird.
Alright, thanks :D

@Chaos: Certain legends do start at Frame 1, but I'm not capturing a legend right now.

-Edit-

It was definitely Frame 5 at that spot in Mount Coronet because I went by that frame to catch my Bold HP Electric 70 Feebas and succeeded in nabbing it, twice. (for two different pokeballs.) It's still possible that the frame is different because it's a Feebas spot. I wouldn't know why, though~

So how exactly do you determine what Pokemon will appear when SR for a spread? I know that it has something to do with the slots, but how exactly can you be certain you will get a Pokemon you want?

Or is it all just dumb luck :S

EDIT: Shinymilotic: Are you in an area with NPC's moving around? If so, your frame can move quite a bit. For example I flew to Solaceon, rode my bike to the Daycare Man and saved. I would get a frame value between 1 and 8. That may not be relevant, but if you are in an area with no NPC's or Pokemon, your frame should (and in all probability IS) 3.

No it doesn't, but they may be about to move when you collect it, which could influence. I'd resave after a few seconds and try again.

@ Shinymilotic13: It doesn't matter whether or not they move. They still call the RNG to determine if they are going to move. Make sure you take the egg as soon as you enter the game world and you should hit a single frame consistently. You can advance to the frame you want using the journal before the game starts.

@ Krul: Once you have selected a spread, put the seed into the RNG Reporter main window and generate by method 1 down to your target frame (generate by method 1 even if you are using method J with a synchroniser to do the actual capture). Look at the PID generated for the frame immediately before it (i.e. if you are going for frame 3105, look at the PID for frame 3104). Open Windows Calculator and put it in Hex mode (you will need it in Scientific mode first to do that) (or use any hexadecimal calculator) and divide the last four digits of the PID by 290 (if the PID was 36D4C10A, you use C10A). Change back to decimal mode and you get a number between 0 and 99. compare that number with the encounter table for the area you are in.

1st slot: 0 to 19
2nd slot: 20 to 39
3rd slot: 40 to 49
4th slot: 50 to 59
5th slot: 60 to 69
6th slot: 70 to 79
7th slot: 80 to 84
8th slot: 85 to 89
9th slot: 90 to 93
10th slot: 94 to 97
11th slot: 98
12th slot: 99

The Pearl encounter tables can be found here and the Diamond encounter tables here. Viletung is working on extracting the data for Platinum. Where modifiers to the encounter table are present, like for inserting a GBA cartridge or the Trophy Garden Pokemon of the Day, they simply overwrite what is normally in that slot. In the case of the Trophy Garden, today's Pokemon goes in the 7th slot and yesterday's goes in the 8th.

As some questions before I go on my first high frame SR (30/x/30/30/26/29 Shiny Bold Giratina)

1) The frame is 2901. 2901-1=2900/2=1450 journal taps, correct?
2) When Giratina moves slightly, does that advance the frame?
3) Instead of just SRing many times, can I catch a pokemon and check to see if the seed is correct and then go from there?
4) If I go from a peaceful area, and then to an area with pokemon, then back to a peaceful area, does the amount of steps needed to advance the frame by the number of pokes in my party go back to 0?
5) Does walking into a new area advance the frame? If so, by how much?

That's it for now

1. yes if in the 2nd place you battle him for platinum. Not in distortion world I believe. If in DW, its 2901-12, then walk 128 steps with odd amount, anddo remaining /2 for flips of the journal.
2. move? if you mean in d world, i dont know, but the frame is 12 for that. So that probably takes it into account.
3. No, it would probably be to hard to account for the walking steps and there may be things we are unsure of that may advance it. It would be easier of SRing in front of it, and use the coin flip method to verify you hit your seed.
4. no. also entering the area consumes extra frames also I believe.
5. Walking into a new patch of grass? if so yes, i think it does an extra 1 or 2, but im not sure. You are better off just starting in the grass.

1. I'm not in DW.
2. His wings move slightly in Turnback Cave. That is what I was wondering about.
3. And the coin flip method will advance my frame by 10 total, correct?
4 and 5. Thanks, I won't have to worry about that with coin flip method.

Thanks so much LF
