oh come off it stallion, you haven't been 'robbed'. you have been outplayed by us every single day of this test. we have been playing much better cricket than you. sure, you've had a few bad decisions, but still this test was definitely england's from the off.

As I said, we were outplayed but then again so were England in match 1 and they still drew. The bad umpiring did severely hurt our chances of avoiding a loss this match though, as I said on the last page. Also, I never said that Jimmy Anderson wasn't an above average 10, I just said that Peter Siddle is underrated as a 10.
We shall see Shiv :). We need to come out strong after the tea break and not los cheap wickets, or wickets at all for that matter.

i don't doubt clarke at all, i personally think he's the best player on the australian team. even though they need only 200 runs more or so, i still think england should have this.
i did comment on how england fucked up by declaring about ~80 runs too early, which i think i'm being proven right about.

Yes, perhaps I was being slightly cheeky. I don't think anyone can seriously believe that I think those wickets were perfectly clean. I think that the one that Strauss "caught" should have been given not out, simply because umpires are supposed to give the batsman the benefit of the doubt. I think that honestly, from the pictures, it was way too close to call.
That said, I agree with Shiv, we should have batted for an hour before declaring.

Yeah Imran what Hip said, the clouds were looking ominous so I was assuming that there was gonna be at least a bit of a delay to gameplay.
Anyway regardless, Australia is suprisigly still in with a shot :). Glad haddin has stuck around, both him and Clake will need to post huge scores for an Aussie win.

I think that a bit of rain would have favoued England tbh =/ It would have unsettled the Australian batsmen, put the total completely out of your reach and still would have given us a whole day to take ~6 or 7 wickets even if things went badly.
I don't agree with 100 a session is quite a bit, though. Test scores are commonly scored at over 3 per over in this day and age.

Gg England, we have been outplayed so you deserved the win but I can't help but worry about how the 100 odd runs (at this stage) that we are behind could have been covered by the shitty umpiring decisions against our top order even. *Sigh* that's cricket I guess though, I hope karma gives Straus in particular what he deserves.

also, stallion, how can you even blame strauss for that. it fucking happens dude. if you take a catch like that, you will in MOST cases think you got it clean unless it surely bounced right before it popped into your hand.
he got his fingers underneath it, atleast to some extent and in real time, it feels like you caught it, especially because of adrenalin and other such things.
this was just an unclear catch, it wasn't sure that he missed it. didn't hauritz claim HIS catch?
all in all, a good game of cricket, poor jimmy anderson deserved way more than 0 wickets in that second innings though. way more.

Yes, I think considering Australia's day 5 performance England can feel slightly better about a few awry umpiring decisions. This is shaping up to be a good series with some things going slightly in England's favour (I don't think anyone will doubt that) it reminds me a little of the 2005 series if I'm honest. None of the games have been boring!
For the love of all things good, Hussey must get a score in the next test. He's looked so good, but has been very unlucky.

Sure, England are 1-0 up, but without arguably their best batsman (even though Strauss has been the form man so far) and Bell coming in who, despite the fact I want him to do well, might not necessarily transfer wonderful County form into internationals. I'm not that fussed about Pietersen, to be honest, he hasn't got higher than 30 ish, I think. He has looked immature (in a cricketing sense) and as if the Aussies have completely figured him out. Ian Bell is a solid batsman, I just hope that he can hold his nerve against the Australians this time. Our biggest worry would be losing Flintoff to injury, he has been holding the team together. That whole "aura" thing in the press conferences was a complete farce, Strauss gave a completely acceptable answer to a gay question, and then they presented it to Ponting in a completely crappy way, down with the English media.

Good first day for the aussies! Despite McGraw pointing out that Shane Watson has an average of <5 and then proceeding to list out all the scores (which by the way, had a highest score of 13 and god knows how many ducks), he seems to have done quite well!
Sad to see Katich get out before a 50 but a good 30 overs!

In terms of the game, unless the pitch deteriorates quickly NZ are actually in a reasonably strong position.. It may prove that bowling first may prove to have been a good idea, since those two cheap wickets could really give NZ an edge. Seeing how flat this pitch is..
The only problem is gonna be Mural and Mendis.
Pity they sent in the nightwatchman, but Patel has been batting well lately.. He's a good player of spin..
