Organized Real Time Mafia on IRC (yeah!)

I've pretty much decided on a time. Until further notice, the first game will start at 5:00 PM my time. This is equivalent to 3:00 PM UTC, making it morning for USA, and around midnight for Aussies. The date is Sunday, October 4th. I can make it Saturday, it really doesn't matter to me, but if no one responds, it will be Sunday.

There are no pre sign-ups. I will announce a channel name at exactly this time, and the first x amount of people (depending on interest, it will be 15 or 20...I'm starting small) will be in.

CrabNebula has generously offered to help me hosting this time (well, so did many others, but I'm taking him this time)

To make this easier, can the americans and australians work out the times and post it here for everyone to see?

P.S:

5. Amelia

42. Amelia

Who is this other Amelia who wants to play? XD

Roughly how long should the game take, and would it be possible for someone to start a second game on the same channel (possibly smaller) almost directly after to take advantage of the fact that a large number of mafia players will probably be online?

Depends on how long the days and nights will take, which I'm not sure of yet. If people will bandwagon to ten votes right away like on fluo mafia, then it's possible. If people actually want to interrogate, claim, etcetera, it'll take longer.

You're free to start a second game right after the first if you want, but I'm probably not going to do it (might play though)...make sure to have one prepared if you want to do this.

Feel free to join then.

By the way, I am no longer able to move the game back to Saturday (I already had an appointment there which I overlooked), so it definitely will be on Sunday.

Do you intend to not have any time limits at all? Other options are to set time limits on days and nights in advance, or make them up if necessary as you go?

I play real time mafia on an xkcd IRC channel reasonably often (without a bot that sets auto time limits like fluo), and even with very small games (5-7 player) and no outside communication it can take over an hour, with particularly long days taking upwards of 30 mins. If you extend that to 20 players, complex roles, and add all the outside communication stuff it could get into a serious marathon which not many people can stick with.

hmm.. ok, I've put together a Basic Roles/No Flavour/No Outside Communication/Closed game that is planned to work for any number of players between 5 and 14 (could add more, but may end up with a lot of villies). Still got to do rule differences/priority brackets/intro, but should be easy enough. Not 100% sure I will be able to run it depending on how long the first goes on for, but if someone else is willing at the time I can pass the role PMs on.

I will just go with what's reasonable. Early majority requires somewhere between 8 and 10 players. Smogon mafias usually have a lot of bandwagoning, but for all the same there will be long discussions, private interrogations, etc. I don't know what will happen yet, and I think it's silly to make a time limit beforehand until I do.
