Goodness, it seems that everyone has a bunch of good ideas. It's really tough for me to pick a favorite out of what everyone else is doing, so I'll just give a run-down of what I'm liking that I have not already commented upon and what I have to say.

I don't really want to use the word "cute" here, since that was obviously not what you were going for. However, I just can't get over the round shape and the pissed-off look. Nonetheless, your reasoning behind what you did with the deisgn is very sound and makes the design make all the more sense.

Quite frankly, I like all three of the designs. They ALL are astheticly pleasing and they all work well with the typing. Whichever one you ultimately go with is up to you and I don't really have a favorite out of the three.
The narwhale that digs through the sand with its drill rather than swims through the sea is a very interesting and clever idea. My only thing is that I would like to see its entire body... though this is mostly out of curiosity, since we don't see the lower half of him. You can make him like Diglet and Dugtrio ultimately, but, like I said, I'm curious as to what's hiding underground.
The chupacara design is the one out of the three that gives off the most "dark type vibe" since it looks like some sort of semi-demoic creature. I also picture it as having a darker coloration for some reason, although that may not be what you have in mind.
The pot... well, like I said with Doug's buffalo design, I don't really want to use the word "cute" since that was not what you were going for, but the small-size in comparison to the other two designs and the facial expression on both the criter peeking out of the pot and the pot itself makes me tempted to use that word.

I am liking the simplicity of the design and I think you should keep it that way. It would kinda go with the simpler designs of the first and second generation Pokemon. Like I said about Cyzir's narwhale design, I'd kinda like to see the rest of his body just because I'm curious, but you don't have to have it out of the ground ultimately if you don't want to.
My complements to the three of you as well as those I (briefly) mentioned in my previous post.
