smogon says that giratina-o learns shadow ball, but its not listed as one of its moves in the shoddy team builder. wtf?

i'm interested in some help optimizing an EV-spread for a Curse-Tyranitar that I may use in a DP Battle Tower Team.

Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Careful - Sandstream
some EVs go here...
-Substitute
-Curse
-Payback
-Rest

Assume flawless IVs, what EV-spread would work best here? I'd like to be able to Sub at least 4 times, possibly 5 if it works? Also Subs can't be broken by Seismic Toss/Night Shade... Then balance the rest between defense and special defense to maximize defenses.

Thanks for anyone's help

Just use the standard Curse Tar EVs: 252 HP/ 40 Def/ 252 SpD Careful natured. Also I reccomend just replacing Sub with Sleep Talk. I don't see much of a reason to use Sub since Rest heals status and anything using Seismic Toss or Night Shade is destroyed by T-tar, plus you just rest before they can even have hopes of KOing you.

Think this is alright for a personal magnezone? It's on wifi, and it's only purpose is trapping scizor/skarmory. (it's not taking special moves anyway)

I'm trying to get a good scyther (physical sweeper) in my pearl game i've been breeding a while now and got a few good ones. Should i try and continue to get an even better one or use one of these:

Scyther #2

What type combination of 3 (also 4) damage moves hit many other types super effective?
Example: Starmie hits 9 types super effective when running it with Surf, Psycic, Ice Beam, T-bolt

Ice/Ground/Fighting/Flying hits everything but Ghost, Psychic, and Water.
Ice/Ground/Fighting/Dark (or Ghost) hits everything but Bug, Fighting, and Water.
Rock/Ground/Bug hits everything but Dragon, Fighting, Ghost, Ground, Normal, and Water so that's probably the best you can get with 3.

Edit: @ frogoholic101 What are you planning on using that dragonite for?

Edit2: If you're using the support set put them in Defense.

Ok, I am using this dragonite:

248HP/216SP.def/44

Aside from speed, what should I put the 44 in? ATK or DEF?

I would place them depending on your set. It would help if you listed Dragonite's purpose.

Anywho, go with the 44 in Attack. The large HP investment combined with D-Nite's already good defenses is quite solid. Hitting harder would be the better return here. (this is my opinion)

Evening Gents. Working on a Timid Empoleon tonight. Which is more useful, HP Electric or HP Grass? Or is something else better for him? I'm going to scarf him and he'll be one of the backups on a RD team.

He's the last member I need to RNG, but I'm just not sold on HP Electric 70 yet. :?

So, Pidgeot. Why is it considered bad? I can totally understand being outclassed by Staraptor and Swellow, who both have something awesome to utilize (Close Combat and Guts, respectively). However, I've read various times that Pidgeot is just a plain bad Pokemon. What is it exactly? Brave Bird and Double Edge are both great moves (though not legal together, currently), and has Steel Wing so it's not completely walled by Rocks. Pursuit and Quick Attack are pretty nice, too, not to mention it has some nice support moves. It's abilities do suck though, sadly.

So, while I can see Pidgeot being outclassed, calling it bad just seems like an overstatement, IMO.

Because Pidgeot's attack stat is a measly 80, and it only has a base speed of 91. It has some bulk, but not enough to really do much with. Pretty much, Game Freak try'd to give it a "jack of all trades, master of none" type spread, but they didn't give it a high enough BST to actually be able to pull something like that off, and it pretty much turned out lackluster in all areas as a result. Thus, Dodrio, Fearow, Swellow, and Staraptor pretty much all outclass it in some way or another as a Flying-type. In addition, there's nothing at all about Pidgeot that makes it stand out, unlike stuff like Staraptor having access to Close Combat or Swellow having Guts and very high speed, so it doesn't really offer much to make it stand out. Thus, there's just no real reason at all to use Pidgeot--regardless of what you're trying to do, something else most likely does it better.

Edit: Thought this was the UU thread for some reason. If we're talking OU here, then we also have stuff like Zapdos and Togekiss, who both have bulk that they can take advantage of, along with good offensive stats, and Skarmory, who has great Defense, can set up Spikes, and is actually neutral to Stealth Rock. When compared to them, Pidgeot just doesn't stand up.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from, but Fearow? Max ATK Pidgeot with Life Orb against a max DEF Regice using Brave Bird

284 Atk vs 299 Def & 364 HP (120 Base Power): 160 - 189 (43.96% - 51.92%)

Now, A Choice Banded max ATK Fearow using Drill Peck

459 Atk vs 299 Def & 364 HP (80 Base Power): 133 - 157 (36.54% - 43.13%)

Even lowering Pidgeot's damage output by using Life Orb instead of Choice Band allowing for Roost recovery, Pidgeot still outdamages it. 91 Base Speed is just enough to outspeed a a large chunk of of UU, too.

However, that is Brave Bird. All of Pidgeot's other attacks are weaker due to its lower base Attack.

Also, base 100 speed for Fearow allows it to beat/tie Typhlosion, Miltank, Houndoom, Arcanine, Uxie, Drapion, and Rotom.

Both fail in comparison to Swellow because Guts Facade is so extremely powerful and it has Brave Bird like Pidgeot does.
